Let's dive into how an IDP simplifies the job of developers. As a quick content note going forward, I'll use the terms internal developer platform, IDP, and developer platform interchangeably. The most important function of a developer platform is to simplify developers' interactions with all the tools, apps, and platforms that enable software delivery. Each of these systems has a similar job, to automate and simplify a part of the software delivery process. Let's take Jenkins as an example. The scope of a CI/CD system like Jenkins is to automate some of the tasks involved with delivering software, such as testing, compiling, and deploying.
