#TGIF Sharing - Business Ethics and Leadership In leadership session yesterday, we discussed about Leaders versus ethical decisions. We have been focusing on these for 8 weeks now, yet everyone’s arguments still revolve around "it depends on the situation." It made me feels like maybe we have fallen into the initial narrative that was established at the very beginning of the class. So yesterday, this was my p.o.v. in the class: "From the perspective of human nature, the reason we find decision making difficult is because, unconsciously, the benchmark to measure ethical standards has always existed within ourselves. And often time, we keep convincing ourselves that “I am an ethical leader/person.” But if we look at it from another perception, the moment you are in a dilemma, to some extent, you have already started turning toward the unethical direction. What actually traps us in the dilemmas is the mindset of wanting everything. Like the saying of "既要,又要,还要" (I want this, I want that, and I still want more), along with the unwillingness to scarifies. The greed, is the true core of the dilemma. If there is a willingness to let go of those already shaken/fragile perception, many decisions actually become much simpler. Looking at it from yet another perspective: When a decision requires us to consider too many factors simultaneously, we may never truly be able to make a decision. Therefore, sometimes what really needed is to "solve one problem at a time". What are we truly in dilemma of? Being unethical, or losing everything you wish to have at the same time?" Case study that started our discussion: Your product is launching tomorrow. Only then you were informed that a serious bug has been discovered. What would you do? Would you choose to proceed with the launch while fixing the issues along the way, or uphold the so-called highest ethical standards and cancel the launch entirely until every problem has been resolved, even at the risk of affecting your company's financial performance? *Picture generated by AI #Rephrased #OrganizationalLeadership #BusinessEthics

“Ethics is not a compliance function—it is a culture.” Policies can define expectations. Frameworks can establish controls. But ethics is ultimately reflected in how people behave when no one is watching. In digital service management, ethical maturity is not achieved through audits alone—it is shaped by culture. 🔹 Leadership sets the tone Leaders demonstrate accountability, transparency, and responsible decision-making. 🔹 Awareness builds judgment Teams understand not only what is allowed—but what is right. 🔹 Organizational behavior sustains trust Daily actions, escalation choices, and operational decisions determine whether ethics becomes real. When ethics becomes culture: • Compliance becomes proactive • Decisions become responsible • Governance becomes credible • Trust becomes sustainable Organizations do not become trusted because they have ethical policies. They become trusted because people consistently live those values. And in the age of AI and digital services, culture may be the most powerful control of all. #DigitalTrust #Ethics #Leadership #ITSM #AIGovernance #Governance

Was the business case for business ethics always a weak, self‑serving argument that soothed the consciences of leaders but made little real difference? NYU Stern School of Business professor Alison Taylor argues that it was. In her view, the 'business case' is a betrayal of ethics rather than a defense of it, sidestepping questions of values altogether. "If we are still out there saying let's double down on the business case for ESG, the average CEO can see that Meta and OpenAI and Palantir have stopped through the roof. So where's the business case for integrity? There doesn't seem to be one". She concludes that "we need to get back to questions of basic morality and values and not be afraid to make those arguments". But, is it really possible for business leaders to engage meaningfully with arguments about morality and values, or are they simply unwilling to make ethical arguments unless they pay? #BusinessEthics #CorporateResponsibility #ESG #Leadership https://lnkd.in/gyzaHMHR

Ethics isn’t separate from performance — it’s part of it. Businesses that prioritize ethical practices see measurable advantages: • Stronger employee retention • Higher customer trust • Healthier internal culture • Lower legal and reputational risk Over time, those advantages compound into stronger performance and long-term growth. The shift is clear: Ethics isn’t just about doing the right thing — it’s about building a business that lasts. Short-term wins come from tactics. Long-term success comes from how you operate. Where does ethics show up most in your business? https://lnkd.in/gkEdUnsR #Leadership #BusinessStrategy #Trust #Growth #wellbiz

👀 Bhabani Shankar Pani’s comment: 🤔 “Ethics is not a compliance framework; it is the foundation of trust. When trust exists, teams align faster, collaborate better, and execute with confidence. Without it, even the best strategies get trapped in politics, silos, and second-guessing. High-performing organizations run on trust before they run on processes. “

🔥What happens when ethics is not shared? Trust collapses quietly. And once trust breaks everything slows down: teams decisions relationships execution and culture. Because people stop focusing on growth. They start focusing on protection. What’s really happening? When ethics disappears organizations slowly develop: politics fear blame culture hidden agendas and emotional insecurity. People stop speaking honestly. And silence becomes the most dangerous culture. Breakthrough 1️⃣ Low ethics creates high internal friction 2️⃣ Distrust increases operational cost 3️⃣ Teams become defensive instead of collaborative 4️⃣ Reputation damage travels faster than success stories 5️⃣ Without shared values even talented organizations weaken internally Because culture does not collapse in one day. It erodes decision by decision compromise by compromise silence by silence. The real question is: Is your organization protecting integrity…or slowly normalizing ethical compromise? Powerful reminder: culture doesn’t fall overnight. It wears away choice by choice and silence by silence. Every action, decision, and tolerated behaviour from leadership filters into daily routines, gradually corroding the organisation’s culture.
