Microsoft's July Patch Tuesday addressed a record 627 vulnerabilities, nearly triple its previous largest release. For much of the past year, public discussion of AI-driven security risk ran on projections — numbers like this are the data arriving, and government assessments now show frontier AI meaningfully accelerating both vulnerability discovery and exploitation. The regulatory picture has hardened too. No AI-specific rulebook is coming; existing obligations already apply, and waiting for guidance is no longer defensible.
