💡 Europe’s energy resilience will be built through innovation.💡 The latest 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 from the #EIC 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 sends a clear message: Europe’s competitive advantage in 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 will come from its ability to scale and deploy its own deep tech innovations faster. 💥 From clean energy generation and storage to advanced materials, hydrogen, grid technologies, and supply chain resilience, 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 solutions already exist across Europe’s innovation ecosystem. 💥Today, the challenge is no longer only about innovation—it is about accelerating industrial deployment and market adoption. The #EIC 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 highlights the need for continuous funding across the 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆, simplified regulations, faster permitting processes, stronger industrial demand, and closer collaboration between innovators, investors, industry leaders, and policymakers. 💥With more than half of the EU’s energy consumption still dependent on imported fossil fuels, strengthening 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲’𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 has become a pressing priority. This is a very timely statement from the #Board of the EIC - European Innovation Council. All points raised are important and urgent. Focused action is needed if we want these new energy technologies and companies to scale in Europe. At eChemicles we face these challanges first hand. Based on a personal experience, also reinforced last week at the recent #AMNC2026 meeting of the World Economic Forum, certain countries and regions outside Europe are taking such steps already, and therefore gaining a strategic long-term advantage.

Europe has outstanding scientific, technological and industrial strengths. The challenge now is to turn these strengths into industrial leadership. The EIC - European Innovation Council board has just published its first Board Statement of this mandate, focused on transforming Europe's energy system. The statement builds on the experience of the EIC portfolio, which includes more than 100 companies developing breakthrough innovations across all essential components of the future energy system. Our message is clear: Europe must accelerate the journey from innovation to deployment. This requires faster permitting, a simpler regulatory framework that supports deployment,, sustained investment throughout the innovation journey, infrastructure that enables the uptake of new solutions, and public and industrial partners ready to act as early adopters and customers. The energy transition will not be achieved through technology alone. It also depends on our collective ability to create an environment in which European innovations can scale, reach the market faster, and deliver impact where it matters most. This is essential not only for achieving our climate objectives, but also for strengthening Europe's competitiveness, resilience and strategic autonomy. The real challenge is ensuring that breakthrough innovations can scale rapidly and reach industrial deployment. Europe’s energy transition needs speed, scale, and storage. The European Innovation Council’s new Board Statement on transforming the European energy system makes one thing clear: deep tech is a present necessity. It also specifically recognizes the importance of storing energy and heat intelligently, from short-term to seasonal storage, so Europe can make better use of renewable generation when and where it is needed.
