Happy Tuesday everyone! This is my last post of the year, and I’m glad to share an insightful article written by my colleague John Jiménez and published on the in-cosmetics Connect blog. The article explores the key cosmetic trends projected for 2026, highlighting an important reality: each cosmetics market grows differently, leads specific categories, and generates its own unique trends. One key takeaway I really appreciated is how the European cosmetics market continues to lead in dermocosmetics and science-driven product innovation, reinforcing the value of strong R&D, clinical validation, biotech ingredients and science-based claims. I highly recommend giving it a read 📖 Wishing you all a happy 😊 and innovative 👩🏻🔬 New Year 2026! #cosmetics #beautytrends #beautyindustry #skincare #cosmeticsindustry

For the fourth year in a row, we've been asked by Beauty Independent to dust off the old cosmetic science crystal ball and predict product development trends for the new year (spoiler alert: they always come true). Here are the predictions for 2026: 1️⃣ SPF realism will replace exaggerated & unrealistic claims that flood the category. Brands will be publicly incentivized to communicate sun protection more responsibly, with better education around usage, limitations, and compliance instead of 2025's "miracle messaging" 2️⃣ For better or for worse, Al will become a bigger product dev tool for efficacy testing. While it might speed up efficacy testing and development, AJ Addae firmly predicts it won't replace science, chemists or real-world testing. (Disclaimer: we're strictly against Al outright replacing human intelligence at SL). Consumers will be fatigued by Al agents, scanners, etc. Human connection in beauty will become more valued than ever 3️⃣ Brands will narrow focus to proven hero products, with a huge emphasis on claims testing. With tighter margins, launches will prioritize educating, communicating efficacy, versatility, and long-term performance 4️⃣ We've seen a strong uptick in requests for science-rooted (instead of vibes-rooted) natural hair product development & evidence testing for 2026, which matches that of "clinical" skincare. And we're rolling out some exciting natural hair testing services to support that 5️⃣ If we had a dime for every time a vanilla fragrance or flavor had been requested for a 2026 launch, we'd be IPO'd by now. Vanilla is coming for you, 2026.

Formulation discipline is what separates science from marketing hype. Higher concentrations don't always mean better results—they often increase irritation risk without adding benefit. Understanding the optimal dosing window for bioactive ingredients is crucial for sustainable efficacy.

When is enough, enough? In formulation, that question matters more than people realize. We have all seen it. Skincare that leads with impressive percentages. Skincare that stacks every trending active moving through TikTok, Instagram, and clinic shelves. Skincare that looks powerful because it is loud. And we have all seen why it sells. Numbers feel objective. More ingredients feel sophisticated. Higher concentrations feel like certainty. But skin does not respond to confidence. It responds to behavior. There is a point in formulation where increasing concentration stops improving biological function and starts introducing instability, irritation, and signal interference. That point is rarely discussed, because restraint does not market as well as excess. Knowing when to stop is not a limitation. It is formulation discipline. In our own formulas, every concentration was chosen by asking a harder question than “how much can we add?” How does this ingredient behave with daily exposure? What happens when it interacts with the rest of the system? Does increasing it improve function, or does it simply increase risk? NAD+ is biologically relevant, but chemically sensitive. Past a certain threshold, higher dosing does not enhance signaling. It compromises predictability and tolerance. PDRN functions through signaling support, not force. Its value depends on stability and sustained compatibility, not maximal presence. Peptides do not act additively. More peptides or higher percentages do not create more benefit. They often create competing signals and desensitization. Barrier support is not a background feature. It is what determines whether advanced actives can be used consistently without triggering stress responses. Restraint is where formulation stops being marketing and starts being science. Enough is enough when the formula still works on day thirty, not just on first application. That line matters. #skincare #formulation #restraint #trending

🔥 One of the biggest challenges I keep facing in cosmetic formulation, product review, and skin-focused content creation is this: 💡When I come across products with poorly designed formulations that are simply not suitable for real consumers and clearly lack efficacy many companies don’t seem to care. 🔺Cosmetic products are not makeup. ✅They are chemical systems. ✅They are combinations of active ingredients, functional materials, concentrations, interactions, and ratios all of which directly affect skin physiology and function. 👀 From barrier integrity to sweat regulation, inflammation, and irritation (antiperspirants are a classic example). 💡When formulations are poorly designed wrong concentrations, incompatible ingredients, or unjustified actives the result isn’t just an ineffective product. 🎯It can easily become a skin condition waiting to happen. So the real question is: Why release a product just to say “we launched something”😏 instead of asking: 🎯What problem are we solving? 🎯What outcome should the consumer actually feel? 🎯Is this formulation doing what the skin biologically needs? 🎯Unfortunately, today the focus is often on selling products, not on defining the product’s purpose or truly serving the consumer. ✅This is where I come in. If you: ✨ Have formulation issues ✨ Need product development or improvement ✨ Want to optimize performance before competitors do 🎯 I help brands with: ✨ Reviewing formulations and ingredient ratios ✨ Improving efficacy and safety ✨ Identifying the right niche and its real needs ✨ Understanding consumer behavior and market trends ✨ Aligning formulation logic with realistic marketing claims ✨ Building smarter product positioning including on-pack claims and communication 💡Because successful skincare isn’t just about ingredients DM if you need help and we can Collab✅ 🧴It’s about science, skin physiology, and strategy working together. What’s holding back haircare innovation, and how close are we to changing that? These are the themes explored in The Haircare Gap, a Cosmetics Cluster UK webinar bringing together experts from across the value chain to examine why skincare continues to move ahead in ingredient innovation, clinical validation, and consumer engagement, while haircare often faces slower trend cycles and greater challenges in claim substantiation. The session will explore whether this gap is real or perceived, what is driving it, and what it will take for the industry to close it. As part of the line-up, our very own Helene Hine will share new bond building market insights exploring what the professional hair care market reveals about the barriers facing hair care R&D and how advances in biotechnology are opening new possibilities for credible, science-led repair. We look forward to the discussion and hope to see you there on 21 January. https://ow.ly/Q4Kp30sS2Aj #crodabeauty #haircare #innovation #bondbuilding #marketinsights
