It's been a while since my last post. Recently, I've been following the news on the Artemis II mission. A brief snippet on NBC Nightly News (12:59 - 13:16) features NASA mission staff sharing valuable insights into reliability engineering. The expert explains that reliability engineering involves understanding the risks associated with running the mission. The objective is to drive those risks down to zero, while acknowledging that some risk is inevitable in missions like space exploration. This perspective resonates with the concept of an error budget in operating large-scale distributed systems. While achieving a zero error budget is unrealistic, reliability engineering enables us to understand and effectively minimize risks.

EDF 2025 results are out! €1.07B for 57 projects. Focus is clear in AI, cyber, drones and counter-drone, directly supporting the EU defence flagships and moving further into capability development (€675M vs €332M in research). Strong ecosystem signal: 634 entities, 26 Member States + Norway, with SMEs at the core (38% participation, 21% funding). Watching the success of Artemis II has been incredible — a reminder of what’s possible when preparation, curiosity, and teamwork come together at the highest level. While space exploration and sales might seem worlds apart, there’s something in that mindset that resonates with me every day. At PepsiCo, our mission in the field is also about exploration — discovering new opportunities, building relationships, and understanding what truly connects with customers and consumers. Every store visit, every conversation, every new display is a chance to learn something that helps us serve people better. Like any mission, not every step is linear. Some ideas work immediately, others take time. But with consistency and a willingness to keep exploring, those efforts add up — helping more people find the products they enjoy and trust. Proud to be part of a team that shows up every day with that same spirit of curiosity and execution.

This was more than a trip around the moon. Every system on that spacecraft represented years of testing, learning, failing, and improving. Not just trusting the technology, but trusting the people behind it. It made me think about the work many of us are doing every day. We may not be launching rockets, but we are building new tools, trying new workflows, and solving problems that used to feel impossible.

The Artemis II crew is safely back on Earth after completing the first human journey around the Moon in over 50 years. Their 10‑day mission pushed the limits of engineering and human exploration, capturing thousands of images — including rare views of the lunar far side — and validating key systems for future lunar landings. This flight wasn’t just a test. It was a preview of the next chapter in human space exploration, bringing us one step closer to returning to the Moon and eventually reaching Mars. A powerful reminder of what’s possible when innovation and purpose align.

As a PPL pilot, watching Artemis II feels like seeing the ultimate extension of the principles we apply every day: risk management, discipline, procedures, and absolute trust in systems and crew. The ‘flight environment’ may change, but the mindset remains the same. A powerful reminder that aviation and space share the same DNA: precision, responsibility, and continuous pursuit of the limit.
