Again, a Danish deeptech startup spun out of the DTU - Technical University of Denmark, has been selected by the EIC - European Innovation Council under its STEP Scale Up scheme as one of just eight companies chosen across Europe. The recommendation puts Again in line for an equity ticket from the EIC Fund, with co-investor capital expected to bring the total round into the DKK 373M to DKK 1.1B range, subject to due diligence. The chemical industry produces roughly 1.8 gigatons of CO2 every year, about 4 percent of global emissions, while remaining indispensable to plastics, textiles, fertilisers, paints, and pharmaceuticals. Replacing fossil feedstocks at industrial scale is one of the stickiest decarbonisation challenges in heavy industry, and most clean alternatives still struggle to compete on cost and reliability. Again combines AI-designed biocatalysts with industrial CO2 as feedstock. Its bioreactors take captured carbon directly from point sources and convert it into acetate, a platform chemical for adhesives, solvents, plastics, textiles, and cosmetics. The company's first carbon utilisation plant in Denmark already cuts emissions by up to 80 percent versus conventional production. The EIC capital is earmarked for scaling production capacity, expanding industrial partnerships, and building toward a fully European route to clean chemicals. This is exactly the kind of foundational deeptech bet Nordic ecosystems should be exporting to the rest of the continent, and a clear marker that Brussels is willing to put institutional equity behind sovereign green industrial capacity.
