TAILORED ACCOUNTS - 18 YEARS ON Tailored Accounts has officially turned 18. This month, we’re taking a moment to look back on the journey so far — one shaped by challenges, persistence, and defining milestones. This journey did not begin in a polished office. It began with the determination of a small player finding its place in a vast ocean. In 2005, a 22-year-old Vietnamese student made the decision to step outside his comfort zone and move to Australia to study. Not because everything was ready, but because he wanted to see how far he could go. Our CEO, Harry, was then an economics student at the Australian National University, navigating financial constraints and language barriers. During those early years, he worked and studied at the same time, improving each skill step by step. From working on farms to support himself, to practising English every day, he kept pushing forward until his first opportunity came. Starting with his initial accounting role, he began to notice a significant gap in the market: many small businesses did not have the resources to build their own internal accounting teams, yet they still needed reliable and professional support. Tailored Accounts was founded from that realisation, built on personal savings and a simple belief: if you do the work well enough, people will need it. Eighteen years on, that journey continues, stronger, more purposeful, and more vibrant than ever. That belief remains unchanged - do the work well, and deliver real value where it matters. ------------------------------------ Next: How a small firm found its place in the market. #TailoredAccounts #Canberra #BusinessGrowth #AustraliaBusiness

I recently ran a poll asking people which area of accountancy/finance currently feels the most stable in terms of long-term job security and career stability in Ireland 👇 🔹 47% said Practice 🔹 33% said Public Sector 🔹 16% said Industry 🔹 1% said Tech/Startups What stood out most to me was how strongly practice came out on top. Given the number of conversations happening around redundancies and uncertainty across certain sectors, it seems many professionals still view accountancy practice as one of the more resilient long-term career paths, particularly for qualified accountants with strong technical expertise. Public sector also scored highly, which isn’t surprising considering the stability and long-term security often associated with those roles. Interesting insights overall, especially in the current market. Would you agree with these results or are you seeing something different in your sector? #accountancy #finance #recruitment #careers #ireland #jobstability #economy #savvypeoplerecruitment

Being in the business of training accountants in Australia and in Sri Lanka for almost 10 years, I’ve noticed that judgment develops much more slowly when team members are shielded from real client responsibility. You can understand the standards, follow the process and still freeze up when a complex issue that needs a prompt resolution suddenly lands on your desk. Relating this back to the early part of my career in tax, memorisation of sections and rulings were drilled into my memory. By the time I started my own practice at the age of 28, I knew my way around an advice memo and could confidently recommend a tax-efficient investment structure. I thought that was what being a trusted advisor was all about. The real learning happened when I took on the responsibility of running a complex multi-jurisdictional family office at the age of 30 and was exposed to the realities of business – dealing with different personalities, family dynamics, complex technical issues. The real risks that entrepreneurs take on each and every day. At S&B Private, our focus is on developing well-rounded accounting professionals who can act decisively and process complex concepts quickly. That means: 1. Real client-facing work early. 2. Understanding the context and dynamics behind the clients and the decisions that they make 3. Candid feedback – if you can’t take that feedback from a manager then you won’t survive in front of a client. When this approach to professional development takes place consistently, judgment improves and confidence builds. Responsibility for decisions and ownership of work feels normal rather than intimidating. The sky is the limit really. #australianaccounting #accountingtalent #practicegrowth

The gap between global accounting talent and Canadian CPA standards has never been wider—or more full of opportunity. With firms like KPMG investing heavily in technology and sustainable finance solutions, it’s clear that Canada’s accounting sector is rapidly evolving. Yet, international accountants often face steep learning curves adapting to local standards, regulations, and specialized areas like ESG reporting. A recent article from KPMG highlights how technology is reshaping the profession—not just in audit and tax, but in green finance and sustainability assurance. This shift demands a workforce that is both globally diverse and locally certified. For internationally trained accountants, the path to CPA designation can feel fragmented. But this is where tech-driven upskilling becomes a game-changer. At HOST, we believe that bridging global expertise with Canadian requirements shouldn’t be a barrier—it should be a launchpad. Our AI-powered platform personalizes training for international accountants, helping them master Canadian standards faster. We also connect them directly with firms seeking diverse talent, especially in high-demand niches like ESG and green finance. The result? Accountants who can hit the ground running, and firms that can scale sustainably. The future of Canada’s accounting sector depends on how well we integrate international talent and leverage technology to upskill efficiently. Are you a firm or an accountant ready to lead this shift? If you’re an international accountant looking to fast-track your CPA path—or a firm seeking skilled, diverse talent—HOST is your partner. What role do you think AI-driven upskilling will play in closing the talent gap for Canadian accounting firms? Why Junior Accountants Feel Stuck in 2026 “They’re not leaving for Money. They’re leaving because they can’t see Growth.” On paper, everything looks fine: ✔ Stable Roles ✔ Competitive Salaries ✔ Established Firms Yet Junior Talent continues to disengage. This isn’t just a pay issue. It’s a progression issue. Too often, juniors are trained to: • Complete Tasks • Meet Deadlines • Follow Systems But not enough to: • Think Commercially • Understand Clients • Build advisory Capability 📊 The result? They don’t just feel Underpaid. They feel stagnant. In 2026, the question isn’t just: “What Am I Earning?” It’s also: 👉 “What Am I Becoming?” 💡 Firms that retain strong talent offer more than salary: ✔ Mentorship ✔ Skill Development ✔ Visibility into Client Work ✔ A Clear Growth Path Because people don’t stay where they only process work. They stay where they can see progression. Final thought: Junior Accountants don’t leave because work is hard. They leave when Growth feels Invisible. #australianaccounting #accountingfirms #talentretention #careergrowth #professionaldevelopment #futureofwork #publicpractice #accountingindustry #firmculture

The accounting profession has suffered from outdated perceptions for a very long time, including that accounting careers are linear. For too long, students and graduates have been shown a narrow picture: study accounting, enter a firm, progress step-by-step, and eventually become a partner. While that path still exists, it is no longer the only path, and in many cases, it’s not even the most common one. Instead, accounting careers can shift in many directions, for example: • moving between audit, tax, advisory, or consulting • stepping into industry roles (like finance manager or CFO) • taking breaks, studying further, or switching into specialisations such as ESG and technology • moving into executive pathways like Managing Director or Chief Executive • building your own business through entrepreneurship, launching startups, or becoming a founder in a completely new industry Accounting is not a narrow technical destination, it is a launchpad into business, leadership, and problem-solving at scale. The Make Accounting Great Again campaign exists to reshape perceptions like this. We want students and young professionals to see accounting not as a rigid ladder, but as a flexible career platform that opens doors rather than closing them. When young people understand the true breadth of opportunities, accounting doesn’t just become a career choice, it becomes a career advantage. 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻 The campaign was launched in Sydney last year by Chartered Accountant Joe Kaleb to help tackle the accounting talent shortage in Australia and globally. We’re a team of passionate accountants on a mission to reshape perceptions of the profession by showing the next generation that accounting isn’t dull or routine, but a dynamic, influential, and rewarding career path. ✔️ Reframing what accounting looks like today ✔️ Showcasing the diverse career paths and real-world impact of the profession ✔️ Giving early-career accountants a reason to stay, grow, and lead ✔️ Collaborating with accountants, firms, educators, student associations, and key stakeholders to strengthen the future talent pipeline As a self-funded grassroots campaign, we would greatly appreciate support from the global accounting community: 👉 Follow the campaign on LinkedIn for insights, resources, and ideas to elevate the profession 👉 Explore our growing resource hub, get involved via the Participation page, or purchase a cap from our online store: https://lnkd.in/g_UZVZjt 👉 Reach out to discuss partnership opportunities #MakeAccountingGreatAgain
