Canada to spin out National Research Council's Photonics Fabrication Centre

2025 marked an important year for PhotonDelta and the wider integrated photonics ecosystem, from ecosystem growth and international collaboration to the transition toward commercial scaling. PhotonDelta’s 2025 Annual Report is now available, reflecting on the activities carried out over the past year and providing an overview of the current state of the Dutch integrated photonics industry. It also includes background on PhotonDelta as an organisation and the broader role of integrated photonics technology. "With over 20 years of experience, the Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre (CPFC) successfully operates as a commercial-scale foundry with deep expertise in advanced photonics.   During our meeting with Dr. Velko Tzolov, Director General, we received an update on their ongoing engagement with the federal government, who formally announced yesterday that work is underway to spin CPFC into a commercial entity as part of a broader plan to strengthen Ontario and Canada’s leadership in photonics innovation."

There is nothing new about the assertion that the UK is strong in photonics. In the Spring of 2001, SEEDA, the regional development agency for non-metropolitan south-east England funded a promotional video that was used in many overseas trade missions.
