Rasmus Rothe’s Post

Today we’re announcing the closing of Merantix Capital’s €103M fund to back early stage teams reimagining Europe’s core industries through AI. Europe's industrial heritage and world-class research base position us to produce true AI champions. What we have lacked is the connective tissue between industry and the startups reimagining those industries through AI and machine learning. With this new fund, Merantix Capital is aiming to fill this gap. That’s been Merantix's mission for 10 years as we’ve expanded our group into a broad ecosystem including the Merantix AI Campus, Merantix Momentum, the London AI Hub, and AI House Davos. The new fund will back approximately 40 early-stage AI-native companies, from pre-idea in our venture studio through seed, across logistics, manufacturing, energy, finance, healthcare, life sciences, robotics, enterprise, and physical AI. We think AI's real value will be captured by teams with domain expertise that can embed deeply into workflows and transform the key European industries that so desperately need reinvention. Companies that go all the way into the hardest parts of an industry and rebuild it from the ground up. I’m deeply thankful for the trust of all our Limited Partners in this journey, including Union Investment, Jungheinrich, KPMG Germany, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and leading family offices and institutional investors. We're already deploying from the fund, with investments including Droidrun, Arqh, Outpost Bio, and several stealth ventures. Enormous thank you to our LPs, our team, and all the founders in our portfolio. Let’s keep building together!

Well...from my thesis, ya'll in Europe have a customer adoption problem. Every year more funds launch, more capital enters the market, and more AI startups get funded. Yet most large European industries still move painfully slowly when it comes to buying and deploying new technology. Infeel the biggest hurdle is getting manufacturers, energy companies, banks, and governments to change how they operate. I assume the winners gonna be the teams that crack enterprise adoption in industries where everyone else gets stuck in pilots forever. Anyway..

Huge congratulations on closing the €103M fund, Rasmus! This is a massive win for the European industrial tech landscape. Your point about the real value of AI being captured by teams that go into the hardest parts of an industry to transform workflows from the ground up is spot on. The initial wave of generic wrapper applications is clearing out, making room for true enterprise orchestration. The 'connective tissue' Europe has lacked isn't just funding—it’s the architectural discipline required to seamlessly integrate machine learning into complex, legacy operational systems without causing downtime or friction. Backing domain-expert teams who understand the raw mechanics of logistics, enterprise, and finance is exactly how we move from AI experimentation to true industrial operating leverage. Exceptional milestone!

Congratulations, Rasmus. One of the most overlooked opportunities in AI is not model innovation, it's the reinvention of legacy industries through deep workflow integration. The firms that successfully connect industrial expertise, founder talent, and long-term capital may end up creating far more value than those chasing the next AI trend.

Congrats Rasmus. The connective tissue point is exactly it. We see it from the talent side at hyrise: the AI companies winning in DACH are the ones embedding into the old industries instead of selling around them. Good to see this kind of money going early stage in Europe.

This is amazing - congratulations! I am very excited to see what comes from this ... can't think of anyone better positioned to pull it off.

Congrats on the fund. The next generation of AI winners may come from rebuilding traditional industries rather than creating entirely new ones.

Lets continue transforming europe!

Congratulations Rasmus Rothe, great to see growth in AI in London, Paris, and Berlin. Where next? Stockholm? Amsterdam? Zurich?
