Last October I was at home with my sick toddler when this photo landed in my whatsapp. Marc Ramage and Nick Spencer had flown to Berlin, set up our stand at Bar Convent, and were sending me updates from the first show I missed in years! Tradeshows are hit or miss. More miss than hit, if we're being honest. But as Maurice Doyle always says “nothing good ever happens from behind a desk.” Turns out, the BCB I missed was our best in over a decade. Today, we shipped 30,000 bottles to a partner we met at that show. Their 5th order. I'm not sure whether my absence was the secret ingredient, but I'm looking forward to finding out this coming October in Berlin 🍸
Fantastic example of how meaningful industry relationships are built. Whether it's beverages, gifting, or promotional products, the strongest partnerships often start with a single face-to-face conversation. Congratulations on turning that connection into a long-term customer relationship.
Love the honesty in this, Tarquin Leadbetter. 😄 From a marketing perspective, this is a brilliant reminder that the real value of trade shows often isn't measured during the event itself—it's what happens months later. A relationship that started over a conversation in Berlin leading to a fifth order and 30,000 bottles shipped is exactly how strong brands build sustainable growth. And I think Maurice Doyle's quote deserves repeating: "Nothing good ever happens from behind a desk." Wishing Tarquin's another successful BCB this year... although you'll have to test whether your presence improves on last year's results! 🍸👏
Is it a Rosamund Pilcher effect for Cornish success in Germany?
Huge show - looking forward to 2026 💙
Sounds like missing that one ended up being good timing in the end. Big pressure on Berlin this year now
Family of spirits 🚀🍸🍸
Congratulations Tarquin. Great to hear. Well done to you and the team. Thanks also for the shout-out. As it turns out neither you nor your team were "behind a desk" at the time so magic was happening at home and in Berlin!
Yeghes Da!! Stand was looking great 💙
Don’t go to another, you’ll jinx it!
That's the thing about Bar Convent Berlin — one right conversation can outperform a dozen planned meetings. Tarquin Leadbetter, the Southwestern Distillery (Tarquin’s Gin, Twin Fin Rum, Connie Glaze Vodka, Tinner Bros Whisky). display alone would've stopped me at that booth!
