Our ‘magic substance’ has been trialled in a world-first trial carried out by The Carbon Community, a charity dedicated to creating forests and accelerating carbon removal. Lake Virginia has been a fixture of Winter Park for generations. But in recent years, harmful algal blooms have repeatedly forced beach closures and kept Rollins College sailing, crew, and waterski teams off the water. Now, the City of Winter Park is taking a long-term approach to restoring the lake using Moleaer nanobubble technology. We're working with the City to deploy our nanobubble solutions to address one of the underlying drivers of harmful algal blooms: low oxygen levels at the bottom of the lake. By delivering oxygen where it's needed most, Moleaer nanobubbles will support healthier water quality and restore the natural biological processes that healthy lakes depend on, all without chemicals. The project also brings together Rollins College, the University of Florida, and the City of Winter Park to continuously monitor water quality, providing valuable data to support long-term lake management while creating new opportunities for research, student education, and community engagement. NATO-backed scientists are testing a powerful perennial grass — giant miscanthus — to help clean and restore Ukraine’s war‑damaged soil. After years of fighting, much of Ukraine’s legendary black earth (chernozem) is polluted with oil, explosives, and heavy metals. But this super‑plant can grow on damaged land, pull contaminants out through its roots, rebuild soil carbon, and still produce clean biomass for heating. It’s already being grown near Bucha — one of the war’s hardest-hit areas — and early results show improved soil health and carbon sequestration. If successful, miscanthus could help Ukraine recover farmland for future generations while fighting climate change at the same time. 🌱🇺🇦 Hope growing from the ground up.

I recently shared some thoughts with Hailey Clarke of Carbon Pulse on Canada's worsening wildfire situation and how the carbon industry is (and isn't) adapting to the growing risk of more frequent, more intense fires driven by climate change. My top two wants right now: - Greater project developer access to forward-looking fire forecasts and models - Carbon standards requiring fire forecasts to be consulted in risk buffer assessments - shifting reliance away from historical data and toward future projections This applies far beyond Canada. It truly feels like the entire northern hemisphere is burning right now. The US, France, Spain... and having visited the UK last week, I saw more wildfires across the country than I ever have in my life. Vibes have been apocalyptic, that's for sure. For my latest Carbon Pulse feature, I looked at what escalating #wildfire risk means for forest carbon projects, and for promises to store carbon for decades as historical fire patterns become a less reliable guide to the future. The story examines whether existing buffer pools and reversal rules can withstand increasingly severe and correlated fires; the growing role of insurance in transferring risk and freeing up project capital; and the lack of financial incentives for fuel treatment, prescribed burning, and cultural burning that could prevent larger fires. It also considers who ultimately carries the risk. For Indigenous nations, permanence obligations, buffer contributions, and insurance costs can create significant financial exposure, even as their communities and traditional territories are disproportionately affected by wildfires. Mangroves store more carbon than almost any forest on the planet, and most of it sits underground in waterlogged soil. When the forest is cleared, that carbon goes back into the atmosphere, which is a big part of why mangrove loss matters so much.
