Boosting Food Production with Clean Solar Power via Agrivoltaics

"We need to learn how we can make food production more climate resilient while also generating clean solar power efficiently."  This is one of the key messages from Jochen Hauff’s recent interview with The smarter E. For too long, the conversation has framed land use as a choice between agriculture and renewable energy. Agrivoltaics (Agri-PV) challenges that assumption by demonstrating that, when designed well, land can support both food production and clean electricity generation. As Jochen explains, unlocking the full potential of Agri-PV requires more than deploying solar. It calls for closer collaboration between the energy and agriculture sectors, clearer definitions and standards, improved market data, and policy frameworks that enable farmers and developers to work together. That is why the Global Solar Council (GSC) has launched the Agri-PV Task Force to bring together industry experts, member association and partners to improve transparency, address regulatory barriers, share global best practices and help scale Agri-PV responsibly around the world.
