The electronics and semiconductor industry is undergoing a significant transformation, where sustainability is becoming a key driver of innovation, resilience, and long-term competitiveness. I recently had the opportunity to conduct a strategic workshop with the leadership team of a leading electronics and semiconductor manufacturing company to develop an integrated sustainability framework that combines Circular Economy, Waste Minimization, Cleaner Production, Environmental Engineering, Best Available Techniques (BAT), and Process Safety. The objective was to identify practical pathways for improving resource efficiency, reducing environmental impacts, and supporting Net Zero manufacturing. We focused on embedding sustainability throughout the product lifecycle -from product design and manufacturing to resource recovery and end-of-life management. Key focus areas: ♻️ Waste minimization and resource efficiency 🔄 Circular product design, repair, reuse, and recycling 🌱 Cleaner production and green manufacturing practices ⚙️ Best Available Techniques (BAT) for air, water, waste, and energy management 🛡️ Process safety, environmental risk management, and compliance 🌍 Net Zero roadmap through energy efficiency, renewable energy, and decarbonization An integrated approach enables manufacturers to reduce waste, lower carbon emissions, improve operational efficiency, strengthen ESG performance, and create long-term business value.
