There’s a lot of talk today about how artificial intelligence will transform logistics. In reality, its capabilities are often overestimated. Yes, AI can do a lot. It analyzes data, optimizes routes, predicts delivery times, and automates processes. But there’s one problem. Logistics is not just about data. It’s about delayed permits, closed routes, changing regulations, infrastructure limitations, and constant pressure on timelines. It’s about making decisions quickly, often with incomplete information. AI works within a model. Logistics constantly operates outside of it. That’s why today, AI is a tool, not a solution. It amplifies those who understand the process. And it doesn’t help those who expect it to replace experience. Companies will continue to invest in technology, implementing TMS, WMS, and ERP systems, but the real competitive advantage will not belong to those who have AI.
