Some of the best finds on Etsy are the ones you weren’t expecting. ✨ Sellers’ ads on Etsy play a role in that discovery: they help surface items relevant to what buyers are searching for while enabling sellers to grow their reach and businesses. Our latest Code as Craft explores how our teams leverage Multi-gate Mixture-of-Experts (MMoE) and auxiliary tasks in our ML models to better understand shoppers’ intent and match them with ads for items that genuinely speak to them, keeping discovery personal. We would like to bring attention to the fact that recently Etsy ads performance seems to have dropped significantly, especially for shops that have been loyal sellers on the platform for a long time. We at ChicsAndCheersStudio have noticed this very clearly, and we’re also part of a broader community of Etsy sellers who are experiencing the same issue. We work very hard to provide great products, customer service, and to grow together with Etsy, so we kindly ask Etsy to also support long-term sellers and look into these advertising performance concerns. Etsy ads have never been successful for my shop. I have found renewing is more cost effective.

Really interesting look into how ML is shaping personalised discovery on Etsy. Using approaches like MMoE to better understand shopper intent shows how thoughtful AI can make recommendations feel more relevant and human.
