Driver’s Guide – When to Complete a Heavy Vehicle Pre-Start A pre-start inspection should be completed as close as reasonably practicable before driving your heavy vehicle. Conduct a pre-start before your first journey each shift, whenever you take over a different vehicle or trailer, after maintenance or repairs, after loading where the load may affect safety, and before continuing if the vehicle has been parked for an extended period or conditions have changed. Never rely on an inspection completed hours earlier if the vehicle, trailer, load or operating environment has changed. If you identify a safety-critical defect, report it immediately and do not drive until it has been rectified or made safe.

Helicopter standards for safely transporting crews to the field..... Im hearing alot of frustration and "hair pulling" from clients who cant get the field crews to seriously understand helicopter transport safety.... At times in an orientation on riding in a helicopter..the message is brief..filled with points to cover..quickly..and a friendly tone to all new crew understanding what is critical. TRY USING A STANDARD and tone that commands - focus, critical listening skills and a message that firmly speaks about the DANGERS of approach and exiting a machine..done incorrectly could kill you.. Loading of the basket..What is STANDARD protocol..no other ways are acceptable and a 100% insuring a PRE-CHECK of loose bags..gear..head gear..is secured. PERIOD... No entering a staging zone without pre-check. No Entering the chopper without pilot thumbs up No rushing..slamming $50,000 doors of the machine is not tolerated. PERIOD. No unbuckled seatbelts after exiting. Talking on these critical points in a strong and serious way will..make clear this is not a bus with rotor wings. This is a machine that can mame you for life..cost big numbers to repair if damaged and could result in a shut down in an isolated area if unable to fly. Helicopters and field crew need to be on one page. The SAFETY STANDARDS.
