🌱☀️ Austria has unveiled a pioneering agrivoltaics project that combines clean energy, sustainable farming and biodiversity on the same land. The 6.6 MW Donnerskirchen agrivoltaic plant uses single-axis trackers and is the first in Austria designed to supply electricity directly to the country’s railway power grid. Expected to generate around 8.3 GWh annually, the project will help power Austria’s low-carbon rail network while allowing organic farming to continue beneath the solar installation. The development highlights the growing potential of agrivoltaics to maximise land use by delivering renewable energy, supporting agriculture, and enhancing biodiversity simultaneously. 👉 https://ow.ly/yZwh50ZnaP3 #Agrivoltaics #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #CleanEnergy #Biodiversity

🚜 ☀️ 🌱 Agrivoltaics describes integrated systems that enable land to be used simultaneously for agricultural production and solar energy generation. “While photovoltaic systems offer a promising mutually beneficial relationship between food, water and renewable energy, if not properly designed they can jeopardise crop productivity,” says Ibrahim Yehia Ph.D., coordinator of the REGACE project. To mitigate this, contributing to a trend for more sustainable cropping, REGACE developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted adaptive agrivoltaic system for greenhouses capable of producing solar energy, while maintaining favourable crop growing conditions. 👉 To read the full article, entitled, Crop Responsive Greenhouse Agrivoltaics System with CO2 Enrichment for Higher Yields, visit: https://lnkd.in/eGw73UBq #EU #AI #REGACE #Agrivoltaics #Greenhouse #Innovation #SolarEnergy #FoodSecurity

Agrivoltaics is evolving from a niche solution for land constraints into a distinct industry that combines agriculture and solar generation. Speaking to pv magazine Global, Jochen Hauff, Senior Advisor for Agrivoltaics at Global Solar Council (GSC), revealed that agrivoltaics should no longer be viewed as "solar plus farming," but as an integrated system requiring new business models, agricultural expertise, and stronger collaboration with farmers. He emphasized that successful projects must be designed with farmers, for farmers, prioritizing food production, water resilience, and community trust alongside clean energy generation. Hauff also highlighted the need for clearer global definitions of agrivoltaics, a challenge the Global Solar Council is addressing through its newly launched Agri-PV Task Force. While R&D funds or subsidies have supported many of the existing agrivoltaic systems, Jochen states that commercially viable applications are now emerging in several markets. By further improving regulatory framework conditions, the sector is ready to scale up significantly. Ultimately, he called for the solar industry to move beyond technology alone and build lasting partnerships with rural communities to unlock agrivoltaics' full potential. As the renewable energy sector evolves, innovative concepts like agrivoltaics are gaining momentum. A recent article showcases how sheep grazing beneath solar arrays can help maintain solar sites while supporting agricultural activity, demonstrating how renewable energy infrastructure can create multiple layers of value from the same piece of land. This type of integrated thinking reflects the broader opportunities emerging across the solar industry as developers seek to optimize land use, improve sustainability outcomes, and strengthen community benefits. “Germany’s degraded #peatlands offer up to 268 GW of #solar potential” “Fraunhofer ISE has identified up to 268 GW of #solarpotential on #degradedpeatlands in Germany. A new guidance document outlines how #peatlandPVprojects can support #emissionsreductions while creating new opportunities for landowners and #farmers.” Sandra Enkhardt - 22 Jul 2026 “Since the introduction of the reform of the #RenewableEnergySourcesAct (#EEG) in 2023, #photovoltaic installations on re-wetted peatlands have been eligible for support. While the topic attracted significant attention at industry events following the policy change, interest has since waned. A new guidance document aims to renew interest in the sector after the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) identified a technical potential of 134 GW to 268 GW for #peatlandPVsystems across Germany.” “According to the study, around 334,500 hectares of peatland could be made available for #solarpowergeneration. These areas consist of degraded, drained peatlands previously used for #agriculture and not subject to nature conservation restrictions.” “The guidance document is intended for #agricultural businesses, #PVdevelopers, and public authorities. It provides an overview of the current state of technology for peatland PV systems and outlines recommendations for planning, implementation, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning. It also examines policy requirements, technical challenges, and the applicable legal framework.” “Re-wetting peatlands can significantly reduce #greenhousegasemissions from soils that have been drained for agricultural purposes. “Around 70% of all formerly intact peatlands in Germany have currently been drained for agricultural use. They account for just under 7% of Germany’s total #greenhousegas emissions,” said Agnes Katharina Wilke, project manager of the MoorPower research initiative at Fraunhofer ISE.” “Germany aims to re-wet 50,000 hectares of degraded peatland annually to meet its #climatetargets. At the same time, peatland PV could provide an additional source of income for farmers and landowners while reducing competition for land as #solardeployment continues to expand.” https://lnkd.in/eCfSbhcm Source- original post 👍 LIKE ♻️ REPOST ➕ FOLLOW me, Marius Preston, for daily insights. 🔍 READ all my posts #MariusPreston

Energy Source & Distribution recently covered the microgrid renewable system being delivered for Koompartu Farms, an Australian project of the RRG Sustainable Water Impact Fund (SWIF), in South Australia’s Riverland region. The article notes that the project is expected to be one of the largest privately owned non-mining microgrids in Australia. That scale matters because Koompartu Farms is a large agricultural operation where energy reliability directly supports critical irrigation systems and day-to-day production. The project includes solar generation, battery energy storage, backup generation, and underground high-voltage power lines. It is being delivered by AGL under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement, with AGL building, owning, operating, and maintaining the assets. For RRG Capital Management (RRG), this is one example of how sustainable agriculture depends on more than the crop itself. Water, energy, infrastructure, and operations all shape how agricultural assets perform over time. Renewable fuels are not a silver bullet, nor will they replace every litre of imported fuel overnight. However, they represent a practical and scalable opportunity to improve Australia's energy resilience while creating jobs and investment in regional communities. Australia has abundant biomass resources, world-class agricultural and forestry sectors, and growing expertise in renewable technologies. These advantages provide a strong foundation for the development of a domestic renewable fuels industry. The question is no longer whether renewable fuels can play a role in Australia's future energy mix. The question is how quickly! Australia chooses to embrace the opportunity. As the nation seeks to strengthen fuel security, support regional development, reduce dependence on imported energy and build sovereign manufacturing capability, renewable fuels deserve a place at the centre of the conversation. We are excited to be partnering with MBA and their group. https://lnkd.in/gBKwruAA
