Hoymiles in Action | Smarter Energy for Modern Agriculture 🌾⚡ At a modern farm in Zeewolde, the Netherlands, vegetable processing, dairy farming, and cold storage create highly variable energy demand. While solar generation peaks during the day, electricity consumption doesn't always follow—reducing self-consumption and increasing operating costs. To bridge this gap, the farm deployed a 1 MW / 2.15 MWh energy storage system powered by 10 HoyUltra all-in-one C&I ESS units, enabling excess solar energy to be stored and dispatched precisely when production demands it most. Powered by HoyUltra: ✅ 100 kW / 215 kWh all-in-one ESS per unit ✅ Integrated EMS for peak shaving, demand control & load following ✅ Up to 98% conversion efficiency for optimized energy use ✅ Advanced liquid cooling & IP65-rated battery enclosure for reliable outdoor operation ✅ Plug-and-play architecture with flexible multi-unit expansion The result? Higher PV self-consumption, lower electricity costs, and a more resilient energy supply—helping accelerate the transition toward smarter and more sustainable agriculture across Europe. #HoymilesInAction #HoyUltra #EnergyStorage #CommercialStorage #Agriculture #Netherlands

【CASE STUDY】Powering Smarter Agriculture with Solar Energy 🌱 As modern poultry farming becomes increasingly energy-intensive, managing electricity costs while ensuring reliable operations has become a key challenge. To support a leading poultry farm in Zhangzhou, China, Hypontech delivered a 1MW rooftop solar PV project, transforming unused rooftop space into a clean and cost-effective energy asset. Equipped with 20 Hypontech HPT 50K three-phase inverters, the system delivers up to 98.8% conversion efficiency, IP65 protection, intelligent monitoring via Hypon.Cloud, and reliable performance for demanding commercial applications. 🚀 The project generates approximately 1.13 GWh of clean electricity annually, helping the farm save around USD 120,000 in electricity costs each year. Beyond the financial benefits, it reduces approximately 918.3 tons of CO₂ emissions and saves 345.6 tons of standard coal annually—equivalent to planting more than 51,000 trees. The rooftop PV system also helps lower indoor temperatures during summer, reducing cooling demand and creating a more efficient environment for poultry production. ☀️🌳 From agriculture to commercial and industrial applications, #Hypontech continues to deliver reliable solar and energy storage solutions that help businesses improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and advance their sustainability goals. #SolarEnergy #CommercialSolar #Agrivoltaics #GreenEnergy #ESG #CaseStudy

Agrivoltaics is evolving from a niche solution for land constraints into a distinct industry that combines agriculture and solar generation. Speaking to pv magazine Global, Jochen Hauff, Senior Advisor for Agrivoltaics at Global Solar Council (GSC), revealed that agrivoltaics should no longer be viewed as "solar plus farming," but as an integrated system requiring new business models, agricultural expertise, and stronger collaboration with farmers. He emphasized that successful projects must be designed with farmers, for farmers, prioritizing food production, water resilience, and community trust alongside clean energy generation. Hauff also highlighted the need for clearer global definitions of agrivoltaics, a challenge the Global Solar Council is addressing through its newly launched Agri-PV Task Force. While R&D funds or subsidies have supported many of the existing agrivoltaic systems, Jochen states that commercially viable applications are now emerging in several markets. By further improving regulatory framework conditions, the sector is ready to scale up significantly. Ultimately, he called for the solar industry to move beyond technology alone and build lasting partnerships with rural communities to unlock agrivoltaics' full potential. Based on the political discourse surrounding land use for solar power, one might assume that solar farms take up a significant portion of U.S. land. Land that can no longer be used for agriculture because it's been "taken over" by solar, right? Would you be surprised to hear that The Solar Energy Industries Association found solar only occupies 0.07% of U.S. farmland? Or that much of the land used for solar farms can simultaneously be used for livestock? 🐑 Sheep, Solar and Smarter Land Use I recently spent some time in Worcester, just outside Cape Town, visiting a solar PV plant, and one thing immediately caught my attention. It wasn't the solar panels. It was the sheep. Rather than using mechanical mowing or herbicides to control vegetation, the site uses sheep to naturally maintain the grass beneath the PV arrays. It's a simple idea, but one that delivers real operational benefits - reducing maintenance costs while allowing agriculture and clean energy generation to coexist. This is a great example of Agrivoltaics (Agri-PV), where renewable energy and farming work together to maximise the value of the same piece of land. As Agri-PV projects continue to gain momentum across Africa, digital asset management will become increasingly important. Site owners and O&M teams need accurate, up-to-date information to monitor infrastructure, track inspections, manage vegetation, and maintain the long-term performance of their assets. At Wesii, we support these projects with drone-based inspections and digital Agri-PV platform capabilities, providing customers with a centralised view of their assets, inspection history, and project performance to help make better operational decisions. It was great to see such a practical example of how innovation doesn't always have to be complicated - sometimes it's as simple as letting sheep do what they do best. Have you visited an Agri-PV project or seen similar initiatives elsewhere in Africa? 📩 sales@wesii.com #Agrivoltaics #AgriPV #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy #AfricaEnergy #AssetManagement #DroneTechnology #SolarPV #OperationsAndMaintenance #CleanEnergy #SustainableAgriculture #DigitalTransformation #EnergyTransition

Energy Source & Distribution recently covered the microgrid renewable system being delivered for Koompartu Farms, an Australian project of the RRG Sustainable Water Impact Fund (SWIF), in South Australia’s Riverland region. The article notes that the project is expected to be one of the largest privately owned non-mining microgrids in Australia. That scale matters because Koompartu Farms is a large agricultural operation where energy reliability directly supports critical irrigation systems and day-to-day production. The project includes solar generation, battery energy storage, backup generation, and underground high-voltage power lines. It is being delivered by AGL under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement, with AGL building, owning, operating, and maintaining the assets. For RRG Capital Management (RRG), this is one example of how sustainable agriculture depends on more than the crop itself. Water, energy, infrastructure, and operations all shape how agricultural assets perform over time. For years, the assumption was solar or farmland — not both. That assumption is starting to shift at the industry level. The Global Solar Council recently launched a global AgriPV Task Force, bringing solar and agriculture leaders together to scale dual-use land strategies worldwide. Vertical bifacial solar is already proving the concept works: crops growing beside the panels, power generated from both faces, no land traded away to get either. This isn't a pilot program anymore. It's becoming infrastructure policy. #Agrivoltaics #VerticalSolar #DualUseSolar #RenewableEnergy #SustainableFarming #SolarEnergy #CleanEnergy #FarmlandInnovation
