🚀 FOOD TECH MYTHS | EP.01 READY MEALS ARE FULL OF PRESERVATIVES. ARE THEY REALLY? It’s probably one of the most common misconceptions in the food industry. For many consumers, long shelf life automatically means: ❌ more preservatives ❌ more additives ❌ lower quality But is that really true? The answer is: not necessarily. Today, a product’s shelf life doesn’t depend only on the ingredients it contains. It depends, above all, on how the production process has been designed and controlled. Modern Food Technology makes it possible to create safe, long shelf-life foods by combining several key elements: 🧪 advanced stabilization technologies; 📦 high-performance protective packaging; 🌡️ precise control of time and temperature; 🔬 rigorous microbiological controls throughout the production process. There's been a noticeable shift in how food brands communicate. A few years ago, packaging told you what was in the product. Today, it's mostly about what's not. No refined sugar. No preservatives. No palm oil. No artificial flavours. No emulsifiers. Somehow, ingredient lists stopped being information and became marketing copy. Don't get us wrong, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Consumers deserve transparency, and cleaner formulations are a step in the right direction. But there's an unintended consequence. We sometimes end up evaluating a product by everything that's missing, while paying less attention to what's actually there. What's the quality of the ingredients? Why were they chosen? How are they processed? What role does each ingredient play in the final product? Those questions often tell you far more than a long list of "free-from" claims. A product isn't automatically good because it excludes a few ingredients, and it isn't automatically bad because it doesn't fit the latest trend. The conversation around food has become increasingly about elimination. Maybe it's time to make room for composition too. Instead of asking only, "What did they remove?" Perhaps we should also ask, "What did they put in and why?" That feels like a more meaningful way to understand the food we eat. Every food brand has a list of things it doesn't use.
