A simple mindset shift can change the entire caregiving experience. At our recent community talk, Entering Their World: Ways to Relate With Compassion to the Family Member With Dementia, Vanessa Valerio, RN Gerontologist, CMC, CHCA offered a practical reframe for caregivers and families: rather than focusing on what a loved one has lost, focus on what they can still do. A shared activity like reading, chosen around the individual's current strengths rather than their limitations, allows for real engagement. And that kind of engagement doesn't just support connection. It can help slow the disease's progression. Small shifts in approach can have a meaningful clinical impact, which is exactly the kind of practical guidance we aim to bring to families and care partners in our community. #ExpertIndeed #CommunityIndeed

Finding great caregivers is only the beginning. The key to building a strong care team is helping caregivers feel supported, appreciated, and connected to a meaningful mission. In this video, I share three ways to lead caregivers effectively: ✔️ Coach them to grow ✔️ Connect them to your mission ✔️ Make them feel valued and part of the family When caregivers feel appreciated, they're more likely to stay, grow, and provide exceptional care. These strategies—and many more—are featured in Breakthrough Alzheimer's Care. Memory care shouldn’t require families to uproot their lives. We’re building something different: mobile memory care that comes to you. Instead of forcing older adults and individuals living with dementia into rigid facility schedules, we bring cognitive support, respite care, and structured engagement directly into the home and community. The goal is simple: Less caregiver burnout. More consistency. More dignity. More access. Care shouldn’t be static. It should move with the person. Through the Vaughn Gage Center and Guided Cognitive Care, we’re reimagining what aging support can look like—one home at a time. If you’re working in aging, caregiving, or healthcare innovation, we’d love to connect.

Something I think about a lot in the context of our dementia care work is that caregiver burnout is a clinical outcome, not just a personal experience. When the person providing day-to-day care to someone with dementia reaches a breaking point, care quality deteriorates, hospitalizations increase, and the person living with dementia is at greater risk. It's a downstream consequence that costs the healthcare system enormously and costs families even more. Structured education and ongoing support between clinical visits won't eliminate the difficulty of caregiving, but reducing uncertainty and building confidence are among the most scalable interventions available. That's what PATHS is built to deliver. #DementiaCare #CaregiverBurnout #PATHS #ElderCare #CaregiverSupport

This is why we provide free 24/7 resources to family caregivers, because it is a 24/7 job. Respite, training, and support should be the norm.

As heartbreaking as this story is, I hope people resist the urge to immediately judge. None of us know what was happening inside that home before police arrived. If the allegations are true, then this 90-year-old man deserved to be safe, clean, and receive medical care. But I also know this: caregiver burnout is real. Dementia caregiving can become overwhelming, especially when someone is trying to do it alone with little support. That doesn’t excuse neglect, but it does remind us that families often reach a breaking point long before anyone notices. This is exactly why caregivers need respite, education, and somewhere to turn before a crisis happens. My heart is with this gentleman, and I hope this case also sparks a bigger conversation about supporting family caregivers before situations become tragic. https://lnkd.in/g3VNCGYt

💜 Caregiver, can I share something that might make this journey a little easier? One of the most valuable dementia care resources available is also one of the most underutilized: Support groups. Many caregivers tell us they feel overwhelmed, isolated, and unsure if they're making the right decisions. The truth is, you don't have to navigate dementia alone. In today's video, Kevin shares why support groups can provide practical advice, emotional support, and something every caregiver needs: people who truly understand what you're going through. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can hear is: "Me too." 💬 Have you ever attended a caregiver support group? If so, what was the biggest benefit for you? 📌 Save this post and share it with another caregiver who may need encouragement today. 📞 Seniors Helping Seniors Central Oklahoma 405-562-6000 🌐 SHSCentralOK.com #AlzheimersAwarenessMonth #CaregiverSupport #DementiaCare #FamilyCaregiver #AlzheimersSupport #MemoryCare #SeniorCare #SeniorsHelpingSeniors #OklahomaFamilies #YouAreNotAlone 💜

One of the best resources for family caregivers is free! Support groups. Yet many caregivers never attend one. I understand why. Walking into a room full of strangers can feel intimidating. But what if those strangers became some of your greatest sources of support, encouragement, and practical advice? In today’s video, I share why support groups can be such a valuable resource for families caring for a loved one with dementia. Have you ever attended a caregiver support group? What was your experience like? I’d love to hear your thoughts below. 💜 #AlzheimersAwarenessMonth #CaregiverSupport #DementiaCare #FamilyCaregiver #YouAreNotAlone

In home care, who shows up matters as much as what they do. At TheKey, caregiver matching is not an afterthought. TheKey Match pairs clients based on care needs, personality, communication style, and shared interests, because the right fit drives better outcomes. Consistent caregiving reduces anxiety in clients with cognitive decline, supports medication adherence, and builds the trust that keeps older adults engaged in their own care. For the families we work with, that consistency means fewer escalations and smoother transitions. And that reflects well on everyone involved in the discharge plan. What do you look for when evaluating a home care partner's approach to caregiver placement? #HomeCare #CareManagement #AgingInPlace

Communicating with Someone Living with Dementia Communication can become more challenging as dementia progresses, but small adjustments can make a big difference. Try these simple approaches: ✔️ Use short, clear sentences ✔️ Ask one question at a time ✔️ Give extra time for responses—avoid rushing ✔️ Maintain eye contact and a calm tone ✔️ Use gestures or visual cues when helpful ✔️ Focus on feelings, not facts Most importantly, how something is said often matters more than what is said. At AdvocateWell, we support families in learning practical strategies that reduce stress and improve connection. #QuickTipTuesday #DementiaCare #CommunicationTips #AdvocateWell #CaregiverSupport #SeniorCare #AgingWell #DementiaAwareness
