Reactive repairs cost 3 to 5 times more than the exact same work done on a structured schedule. Most maintenance teams underestimate the cost of firefighting until they actually add up the expedited shipping, emergency labor, and lost production time. If you're ready to break the cycle, our new guide, From Reactive to Preventive, is for you! We mapped out the exact path to help you take full control of your shop floor, optimize asset lifespans, and stop letting unexpected downtime dictate your week. Maintenance Doesn’t Start With a Wrench. It Starts With a Plan. Everyone notices the tradesperson fixing the machine. Very few people notice the planner who prevented the breakdown from becoming an all-day event. That’s because great planning is invisible. When maintenance is planned well, the parts are ready. The tools are available. Drawings are accessible. Permits are complete. Production knows the schedule. The tradesperson arrives ready to work. When maintenance isn’t planned, the tradesperson spends the first hour looking for parts, hunting down tools, waiting for access, asking questions, and making multiple trips to the stores room. That’s not wrench time. That’s wasted time. The best maintenance organizations don’t just improve repairs. They improve preparation. Because every hour spent planning saves multiple hours during execution. Planning doesn’t slow maintenance down. It makes maintenance faster. Great maintenance starts long before the first wrench is turned. #Maintenance #Reliability #MaintenancePlanning #PlanningAndScheduling #CMMS #IndustrialMaintenance #Manufacturing #OperationalExcellence #PreventiveMaintenance #TPM #AssetManagement #MaintenanceManagement #ContinuousImprovement #PELR

The cleanest parts of a facility are often the areas everyone can see. The greatest risks are usually hidden. ✅Under conveyors. ✅Inside roof spaces. ✅Above production lines. ✅Within ducting and service areas. ✅Behind production equipment. These are the places where dust, debris and product build-up can accumulate over months or even years without being noticed during day-to-day operations. That doesn't necessarily mean something has been missed. These spaces are simply difficult to access while production is running. Regular inspections and specialist cleaning help prevent small issues from becoming larger maintenance, safety or compliance concerns. Sometimes the most important cleaning happens in the places nobody ever sees.

The floor is trying to tell you something. Are you listening? Cracks, spalling, and damaged joints don't appear overnight. They develop over time as industrial floors are exposed to heavy traffic, repeated loading, and daily operations. Left untreated, these defects can affect material handling equipment, increase maintenance costs, and create safety risks across the facility. Regular floor inspections help identify issues early, allowing repairs to be carried out before they become larger operational problems. Protect your floor before minor defects turn into major disruptions.

Reactive maintenance on paint and coatings costs more than most facility managers expect. When coatings start to fail, the damage underneath typically doesn’t stop at the surface. Peeling paint on an exterior wall lets moisture in. That moisture works into substrates, fasteners, and structural components over time. By the time it's visible from the ground, the repair scope is well beyond what a fresh coat can fix. So what can you do? Budgeting for annual painting maintenance catches failures at the coating level before they pull in other trades or shut down operations entirely. A scheduled approach keeps costs predictable and projects manageable. A reactive one keeps facility managers on the phone explaining how a small spot turned into a much bigger problem. We broke down how to build a realistic painting maintenance budget, and what it should include: https://lnkd.in/gyakJHye

Meet Dugan: The Reason You Need a Professional Inspection While we know that nobody is actually out there wrapping three miles of duct tape around a buckled upright, the logic that's frequently used to avoid a professional inspection can be just as flimsy as Dugan's quick fix. Assuming a damaged rack is fine just because it hasn't collapsed yet holds as much logical weight as Dugan's duct tape. Pallet rack damage is often cumulative and deceptive. The safety of your racks shouldn't be left to assumptions. Thinking that a casual walkthrough by a busy manager is a reliable substitute for structural analysis by a trained professional can leave safety hazards unaddressed. A minor ding can dramatically reduce weight capacity, putting inventory, operations, and your team at serious risk. Believing that budgeting for outside inspections is a waste of money is a costly miscalculation. Ensuring a safe workplace is a fixed OSHA requirement, not a variable expense you can opt out of. Deferring safety evaluations doesn’t eliminate financial risk — it actually multiplies it. Let’s leave patchwork solutions to "Duct Tape Dugan". Real warehouse safety demands objective, certified clarity, not wishful thinking or makeshift logic. A comprehensive inspection from UpRight Warehouse Solutions delivers a professional assessment, reliable data, and genuine peace of mind. SCHEDULE INSPECTION: https://zurl.co/h4Ekd

A shutdown window is a good time to make hazard marking clearer across the site. Not just the main walkways. Not just the obvious danger zones. The areas people walk past every day and stop noticing. Edges of equipment. Posts and pillars. Steps, thresholds and changes in level. Temporary maintenance zones. Areas around machinery or restricted access points. 3M™ Hazard Warning Tape 767i, Red/White gives teams a fast, visible way to highlight those hazards as part of wider summer maintenance work. It is a practical addition to any shutdown tape package, especially when used alongside floor marking, masking and mounting tapes for site repairs, relabelling and general facility improvements. Need to get hazard marking sorted before production restarts? Speak to us about 3M™ 767i, 971L and wider 3M maintenance tape availability. https://lnkd.in/eQ2djiDU #3M #HazardWarningTape #FacilitiesManagement #FactoryMaintenance #IndustrialMaintenance #ShutdownPlanning

If you've ever walked a conveyor line and seen material piling up under the load zone, the first instinct is usually to look at the skirtboard or the chute design. But more often than not, the real issue is happening with the belt itself. Belt sag in the load zone creates gaps between the belt and the skirting, which is exactly where your spillage starts. It's one of those problems that gets managed with constant cleanup crews, instead of trying to solve it at the source. That's why I'm a big believer in providing proper belt support. A quality belt support system keeps the belt flat and in contact with the skirting through the entire load zone, which means material stays on the belt where it belongs. It sounds simple because it is, but it's often one of the most overlooked areas of conveyor maintenance. If you're spending time and labor cleaning up under your load zones that you can’t afford to, it might be worth taking a closer look at what's supporting your belt (if anything at all).

A common misconception about preventive maintenance is that managers need to be repair experts. This isn't the case. Our primary responsibility is to recognize when something isn't operating normally. Think of yourself as the first line of defense, identifying potential issues before they escalate. For HVAC, watch for dirty filters or unusual noises. With plumbing, check for leaks or low water pressure. Electrical systems may show warning signs like repeatedly tripping breakers or flickering lights. Outside, inspect roofs and gutters for damage. Catching these issues early provides more options for scheduling repairs, controlling costs, and avoiding emergencies. You don't need to fix the systems; you just need to notice when something has changed. Missed Our Live Seminar?
