When a major owns your infrastructure, independence turns into a setting they can change. We all say independence matters, then we look the other way while they buy up the whole market, piece by piece. Your distribution partner gets acquired by a major. Your catalog data, your release plans, your margins all end up in the hands of a company that also owns the labels you compete with. We're here for the ones who don't want to rent their infrastructure from a major. We adapt to every person and every business we work with. We built 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 for the ones looking for a mix of supply chain, analytics, royalty reporting, API or white-label, among other modules, turning on only what each one needs. If you want to see how it could look in your business, the link is in the first comment. #MusicDistribution #MusicTech #IndependentMusic

Most managers think catalog acquisitions are for artists who are already established. That belief is how artists sign away publishing before they understand what they're sitting on. Sony Music Publishing just acquired the complete catalog of Recognition Music Group. 45,000 songs. Reunited with the Hipgnosis catalog Sony purchased in 2025. Second major catalog acquisition in under 12 months. Add BMG and Concord merging. Universal's $775 million acquisition of Downtown. Primary Wave acquiring Kobalt. The catalog acquisition wave is not slowing down. It is consolidating. And the premiums being paid are telling you exactly what publishing is worth when someone held it long enough. Every catalog that ever sold at a premium started as songs someone thought would not last. Here is what I want managers to take from this. The most common mistake I see in this business is artists signing away publishing rights before the catalog has had time to build real value. Early in a career when the advance feels large and the future is uncertain, it is easy to give up something you do not yet understand the worth of. Your job is to make sure they understand it before anyone asks for it. That means two things. First: know what your artist's catalog is worth right now. Not a rough estimate. An actual valuation based on current streaming multiples and comparable deals. You cannot protect what you have not quantified. Second: patient capital wins in publishing. The artists who hold their catalogs through the development years and into the maturity years are the ones whose managers one day get calls from buyers willing to pay real multiples. That call only comes if the catalog was protected the whole time. That is a management deliverable. Not a legal one. Yours. Follow for weekly publishing and catalog intelligence. Let's look at what your artist's catalog is actually worth and how it's currently protected. #MusicPublishing #CatalogAcquisitions #SonyMusic #ArtistManagement #MusicBusiness #MusicDeals

48 hours before launch, everything went completely black. 🚨 Six months perfecting the master. Budget locked. Rollout planned to the exact hour. Then, two days out—a fatal distribution data glitch hit our system. Metadata wiped. Release frozen. If you run an independent label, you know that exact feeling: instant, cold sweat panic. Most teams would have pushed the release date back. We pivoted. Emergency calls, manual data re-verification, and pushing directly through platform channels to get the pipeline cleared. The track dropped right on time. The wild part? It performed 40% better than our original projection. Why? Because the last-minute scramble forced us to drop the corporate facade. We documented the real-time stress, raw transparency, and behind-the-scenes chaos on our stories. The audience didn't just stream a song—they bought into the victory. The biggest takeaway from building CrashOut Records? Your strategy is only as good as your ability to pivot under pressure. In the independent music industry, perfection is a myth. Agility is the real competitive advantage. To my fellow founders, label heads, and creators: What’s the biggest fire you’ve had to extinguish right before a major launch? Drop it below—let’s talk real field strategy. 👇 #MusicIndustry #IndependentRecordLabel #MusicDistribution #FounderMindset #MusicMarketing #CrashOutRecords #LabelExecutive #Entrepreneurship

A book is more than a marketing tool. For the right business, it becomes a positioning tool. It creates a clear reference point for who you are, who you serve, what makes your business different, and the value you bring to the marketplace. When your positioning is clear, your marketing becomes more consistent because everything points back to the same message. __________________________ 🎙️Episode #27 — Why Business Growth Can Weaken Your Market Position 👤 Guest: Ally Machate 🎧 Listen here Apple → https://buff.ly/3V70UOq Amazon Music → https://buff.ly/47tzJQA #ManageProjects #businesspositioning #positioningstrategy #businessgrowth #scalingabusiness #womenentrepreneurs #businessexecution #businessstructure #leadershipdecisions #businessclarity #marketpositioning

Tips Music reported 21% YoY revenue growth, but a few numbers caught my attention. • PAT declined by 4%. • EBITDA fell by 5%. • EBITDA margin dropped from 64.2% to 50.3%. • Content costs surged by 90%. For me, revenue growth alone isn’t enough. A business should be able to convert its growth into higher profits and maintain healthy margins. #TipsMusic #Investing #StockMarket #FundamentalAnalysis #Finance

Creators are to advertising what hip hop was to the music business: disruptive, undeniable, and reshaping the industry from the outside in. But here’s what doesn’t get enough airtime: the top 1% get the panels, the brand deals, the headlines. Meanwhile, most creators are running real businesses on far less — often under six figures — with none of the infrastructure that “top creator” status buys you. If we only platform the outliers, we miss the actual story: an entire ecosystem of operators, strategists, and builders making the creator economy function every single day. We need to talk about them too. 🎤 Had a great conversation on this at the Microsoft stage — let me know if it resonates ? 🎥 an incredible creator —> Justin Diego

One of the ideas behind Chapter 5 Music is creating more opportunities for music professionals and technology builders to learn from each other. This conversation explores a real challenge from the music rights world and shows how quickly new technology is changing the way our industry works. The goal isn't to replace experience. It's to give experienced people better tools to make better decisions.
Founder of Chapter 5 Music, a boutique agency delivering music strategy, A&R management and rights advisory for the global electronic music industry
Last October, during ADE, I sat down with Julian Willner for the very first episode of his new series, Built in 30 powered by Lovable. The interview has finally gone live (link in comments) ! At the time, I was leading acquisitions at BEAT Music Fund and brought a challenge that many people outside our industry never see: how do you review thousands of music rights, contracts and financial documents without spending weeks buried in PDFs? What fascinated me wasn't only the solution Julian and his team built in 30 minutes. It was the way they approached the problem. Throughout my career I've always been curious about the people building the tools behind the scenes. The founders, engineers and entrepreneurs who look at an industry and ask, "Why does it still work this way?" Music will always be driven by creativity, but I'm convinced the next generation of our industry will also be shaped by the technology supporting it. Not to replace artists, A&R or human judgement, but to remove friction, uncover opportunities and leave more room for the things people still do best: taste, relationships and instinct. Over the past year I've had the opportunity to meet founders building some incredible products for music. Some are already changing the way we work. Others are still operating quietly behind the scenes, but I believe they'll have just as much impact. That's also one of the directions I'm excited to explore through Chapter 5 Music : creating more opportunities for creative minds and technology builders to sit around the same table, solve real industry challenges and shape what comes next. Curious... what music tool has genuinely changed the way you work? #MusicIndustry #MusicTech #Innovation #MusicRights #AandR #ArtistDevelopment
