Prediction markets get a rulebook inside the CFTC's new proposal. Jeff Le Riche and Matti Mortimore provide the lowdown on the federal agency's recently published Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) in EGR Global. The NPRM marks a significant shift in which the CFTC is formally walking back prior orders, redefining what counts as "gaming," and introducing a multifactor public interest test. The proposal also addresses where sports contracts fit and where they don't. Novig has deployed Eventus Validus platform to provide trade surveillance for its sports prediction market exchange, as the company prepares for a federally regulated nationwide launch following its CFTC DCM designation. The integration focuses on monitoring market activity for risks such as spoofing, layering and wash trading, while giving Novig the workflow and cross-market analysis capabilities to scale its surveillance program alongside the exchange. Market behaviour will likely determine the scope of moves to move trading to 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Speaking to FOW and John Lothian News in a video on the sidelines of the FIA, Inc.
