As America marks its 250th anniversary, we take a look at how the automated bottle-making machine, invented by our founder Michael J. Owens, left an indelible stamp on society over the last century.

The changes that Micheal J Owen’s brought into the automated manufacturing space was a key enabler for the industry that we see today , advancements then in the NNPB process from the Germans inside Heye changed bottle manufacturing process . The powerhouse that O-I created in Toledo with the technical centre during the 80,s-2000,s revolutionised some of the technology advancements we also see today , some of the later tech with MCS ,ComSoc and PIC altered the fabric of the plants and their servo technology was second to none, some features then still not even rivalled by today’s machine builders . The first Quad Gob production machines evolved and many changes to what we see today. A shame the technology division elapsed to what it once was . Fundamentals of what we see today were formed around these technologies. Glassmaking globally is incredible and all manufacturers pushing on the latest building blocks that will ensure glass manufacture will remain a fundamental item for society .

Day 50 of posting until I get hired!
Every conversation, application, and interview is another opportunity to learn, improve, and move forward.
One packaging process I’ve always found satisfying to watch is shrink sleeve labeling. It’s a staple for many bottled products because it provides 360-degree branding while also serving as a tamper-evident solution. Watching these high-speed systems run is a great reminder of how engineering, efficiency, and packaging design come together.
Job searching has a similar lesson because not every company will use a shrink sleeve machine to create a tamper evident product. You have to keep showing up and presenting the best version of yourself. Not every company will say yes you may be too early in your career, or another candidate may be a better fit for that particular role. That doesn’t diminish what you have to offer. The right opportunity is one where your skills, mindset, and potential align with the company’s needs.
I’m continuing my search for opportunities in Packaging Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Continuous Improvement Engineering.
