While funding is one of the most significant challenges that impact-person-led initiatives face when addressing statelessness and denial of equal nationality rights, they also have other fundamental needs that must be addressed to enable them to be sustainable, resilient, and effective. Alongside our grants, the Global Statelessness Fund offers an accompaniment program designed to strengthen grantee partner organizations on their own terms. This program is guided by the priorities of our grantee partners and adapts to the emerging needs and challenges affecting their work. Dr. Faten Al-Najar, Good Governance & Communities Cluster, GIZ Jordan, shares how the SPIRIT project's collaboration with DCI has been a game-changer. The impact has ranged from deploying a digital expert directly into the project, to speeding up assessments and analysis, to now tackling the digitalisation of case management and referral mechanisms for persons with disabilities. 🌍 Beyond the resources and expertise, such testimonies show how DCI's global network makes the thematic connection between local teams and relevant topics with other countries and donors - turning DCI’s global learnings into localised impact. 𝕲𝖗𝖊𝖆𝖙 𝖓𝖊𝖜𝖘 🎉 We have awarded 5️⃣ grants to civil society organisations working to tackle discrimination and hate speech, while supporting vulnerable communities. The selected organisations— United Youth Task Force, Sekhmet Institute, Kosovo Disability Forum, Mus-e Kosova, and the Union of Social Workers of Kosovo—are doing amazing work to make communities more inclusive and supportive. Through these projects, school psychologists will be better equipped to address hate speech in schools, young people will be empowered to lead positive change, journalists will gain tools to report responsibly on sensitive issues, and efforts will be strengthened to promote inclusion and respect for persons with disabilities. Together, we strive to build more inclusive societies!🩵 This initiative is implemented under the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”. There is no peace without the youth!🕊️ Between 2022-2025 in Palestine… 🇵🇸 170+ young people completed peacebuilding trainings; 94% reported improved leadership skills & ability to make a change 🇵🇸 15 youth-led projects promoting mutual understanding, disability rights & inclusion were launched by trained youth within their communities 🇵🇸 10,000+ community members were reached by the youth-led peacebuilding projects 🇵🇸 30 % of all peace programme participants in Palestine were people living with disabilities, supporting their participation in the community peace action. With Support from the Embassy of Denmark in Uganda, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Uganda, the Embassy of Ireland, and the Embassy of Sweden, we are having the Inaugural convention on the inclusion of persons with disabilities in social services and decision-making processes in the Karamoja and West Nile sub-regions. The conventions will be held under the theme: “Strengthening Disability Inclusion in Social Services and Decision-Making.” The primary objective of these conventions is to strengthen coordinated and evidence-based disability inclusion efforts in the Karamoja and West Nile regions through regional consultations that amplify the voices of persons with disabilities and promote collective action among government institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders. In 2023, Wajood Society participated in the Peace & Justice Network's consultation on humanitarian response for transgender communities during floods and other disasters, joining partners to strengthen inclusive emergency planning. The consultation highlighted the importance of ensuring that transgender people are not overlooked during humanitarian crises and that disaster response systems address the unique challenges faced by marginalised communities. Through collaboration with humanitarian and civil society partners, Wajood continues to advocate for emergency response mechanisms that are inclusive, equitable, and leave no one behind.
