👉What if buildings could actively support the electricity grid? Frederick Research Center #FRC is proud to be part of CoEnerBuild, an innovative project that is turning this vision into reality by transforming geographically distributed nearly zero-energy buildings into intelligent Virtual Power Plants (VPPs). As energy systems become smarter and more interconnected, traditional power grids are evolving into smart grids powered by digital technologies. CoEnerBuild is helping drive this transition by enabling buildings to generate, store, share, and intelligently manage energy, creating cleaner, more flexible, and more resilient electricity systems. The project brings together 6 partners from Greece, Cyprus, Poland, Spain and Turkey. We are pleased to share the latest publication from our partners, Universitat de Lleida (GREiA Research Group) and ETSi - Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Sevilla! 📄 "Thermal conductivity of phase change materials in solid state at high temperature", published in Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells. 💡 The study provides new experimental data on the thermal conductivity of 11 high-temperature phase change materials (PCMs), helping address a key knowledge gap for the design and optimisation of thermal energy storage systems. ⚡️ BOOSTER-OPV delivers! ⚡️ We are beyond excited to share that our second demonstrator is now successfully installed and operational. Located at Eni’s research site in Novara, Italy 🇮🇹, the demo is with real-world performance monitoring already underway 📊☀️ 🏢➡️⚡ Not all solar panels belong on rooftops The installation demonstrates how organic photovoltaics (OPV) can be integrated directly into architecture, combining renewable energy generation with design flexibility. ✨ What makes this demonstrator special? 🔹 Wave-inspired façade geometry 🔹 136 custom-designed OPV modules 🔹 Approx. 40 m² of active OPV façade surface 🔹 Lightweight and flexible modules integrated into polycarbonate structures 🔹 Reflective finish creating a unique mirror-like appearance 🔹 Design tailored specifically to the building and installation conditions 🔹 Roll-to-roll manufactured modules for scalable production 🤝 Who made it happen? ⚙️ Façade concept, system design, and electrical & mechanical integration: ASCA GmbH & Co. 🚀 Introducing the SOLAR-MOVE partners! The SOLAR-MOVE consortium is made up of 35 partners from 16 countries. They work together to share knowledge, implement the pilots, and support policy recommendations and local action. Today we are introducing the University of Strathclyde and Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) ! 🎓🔬 💡 The University of Strathclyde is a leading public research university located in Glasgow, UK. It is known for its strong focus on technology, innovation, engineering, business, and applied research. Within SOLAR-MOVE, the University of Strathclyde is one of the partners contributing technically to the power electronics design of Vehicle-Integrated Photovoltaics (VIPV). In addition, it contributes to fault detection and developing intelligent support tools for enabling flexibility in Electric Vehicle Compliant Parking Lot Integrated Photovoltaic (ePIPV) systems. 🧠 The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a public research and technology organisation in Luxembourg that conducts transformative and interdisciplinary research across three areas – the natural, built, and industrial environments. LIST leads the project's cost-benefit analysis activities, evaluating the economic and environmental performance of VIPV and PV-integrated charging solutions across different deployment scenarios. LIST also leads on the development of a framework for PV production estimation and fault detection in ePIPV systems.
