We're delighted to announce that HeatNIC has joined the All-Party Parliamentary Renewable & Sustainable Energy Group (PRASEG). PRASEG plays an important role in bringing together parliamentarians, industry, civil society, and academia to build cross-party consensus on the policies needed to deliver the UK's energy transition. HeatNIC looks forward to contributing our expertise and engaging with PRASEG's officers: Polly Billington MP, Lord Callanan, Wera Hobhouse MP, and Uma Kumaran MP. Through this partnership, we will help strengthen the conversation around decarbonising heat, scaling heat networks, and unlocking a smarter energy system that makes better use of local energy resources such as data centres, rivers, and energy-from-waste facilities. We look forward to working with PRASEG and its members in the months ahead. #HeatNetworks #NetZero #SustainableEnergy #PRASEG #HeatNIC #CleanHeat

Yesterday, the first StromVKG tender opened. Most of the debate focuses on whether the mechanism favours gas-fired generation. (It does!) More interestingly, what does it mean for the race for grid connections? Is there a scenario where grid connections originally secured for renewable projects become more valuable for gas-fired capacity projects because StromVKG significantly improves their business case? The new market design (even before receiving final approval from the European authorities) may already be shaping the infrastructure of the future that is counterproductive to its goal. A mechanism intended to facilitate a renewable-based power system through enhanced security of supply could end up influencing investment decisions in ways that favour dispatchable fossil generation. #StromVKG #EnergyTransition #Utilities #PowerMarkets #Flexibility #Storage

Series-Powering the Future: Energy, Climate & Governance Post 3 Renewable Energy alone is not enough **Renewable energy is growing rapidly—but generation is only part of the equation.** One of the strongest messages from the World Energy Outlook 2025 is often overlooked: **Without modern electricity grids, clean energy cannot reach its full potential.** Solar panels and wind farms can generate electricity. Transmission networks deliver it. Smart grids balance it. Storage systems stabilize it. Unfortunately, grid investment is lagging behind renewable deployment in many countries. This is where law and policy become critical. Grid expansion requires: • Efficient regulatory approvals • Fair land acquisition frameworks • Environmental safeguards • Public participation • Long-term investment certainty The energy transition is not only about producing more electricity. It is about building institutions capable of delivering it reliably and equitably. Infrastructure is policy made visible. #RenewableEnergy #PowerGrid #EnergyTransition #EnvironmentalLaw #ClimateAction #Infrastructure #Governance

The EU is about to demand 200 GW of energy storage by 2030. We currently have 55 GW deployed. The Electrification Action Plan, expected this week, confirms a 145 GW gap that must be closed in under four years. For context: Europe recorded 1,223 hours of negative electricity prices in Q1 2026 alone (Spain Records 596 Hours of Negative Prices in H1 2026!) — renewable power literally going to waste because we can't store it fast enough. 22 member states have already signed up for 30–35 GW of new storage by 2028. The plan estimates €200 billion in avoided fossil fuel imports. And it acknowledges data centres will double their electricity draw to 28 GW by 2030, all requiring 24/7 clean power backed by storage. The maths is brutal: we need to deploy more storage capacity in the next 4 years than we built in the previous 20 combined. This isn't an aspiration — it's an industrial mobilisation. The real question: who builds the flexibility infrastructure to manage this at scale? Grid operators, tech companies, or entirely new market entrants? #EnergyStorage #EnergyTransition #GridModernization #DemandFlexibility #PowerUtilities

IRS joins the call for stronger investment in research and innovation for electric power system components. As a partner of the EERA Joint Programme Smart Grids, we support the position paper: Europe's climate ambitions, competitiveness, and energy security depend on the grid, and on the collaborative RD&I needed to modernise and expand it. #EERA #EnergyTransition #SmartGrids
Europe's clean energy transition depends on more than renewable energy. It depends on the electricity grid that connects it.🔌 As electricity demand grows, Europe faces increasing climate, security and geopolitical pressures, while grid expansion struggles to keep pace. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 EERA Joint Programme Smart Grids, 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝟮𝟲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. 🤝 As discussions on FP10, the European Competitiveness Fund and future EU energy policies move forward, their position paper calls for: 🔹Stronger support for collaborative European RD&I on grid technologies 🔹Better alignment of energy, industrial and research policies 🔹Support for sustainable grid components manufactured in Europe 🔹Reinforced European leadership in strategic grid technologies 🔹Faster innovation to enable renewable integration and greater grid flexibility The European Commission's newly launched Electrify Now initiative, designed to accelerate clean electrification across transport, buildings and industry, shows that electrification is rising on the policy agenda. Now is the time to ensure that these ambitions are matched by strategic investment in grid innovation.🚀 Investing in grid innovation means investing in Europe's climate ambitions, competitiveness, energy security and future. 📝 Discover the recommendations in the position paper linked in the comments. #EERA #EnergyTransition #SmartGrids #ElectrifyNow
