Every food product has two recipes. The first is the one everyone sees: Ingredients. Flavours. Nutrition. Texture. The second is the one consumers never see. It's the recipe made up of hundreds of decisions behind the scenes processing conditions, manufacturing constraints, shelf life, packaging, regulatory compliance, cost targets, distribution, and consumer expectations. You can have a great formulation, but if the second recipe isn't right, the product may never make it to market or stay there. That's what makes food product development so fascinating. It's not just about creating a product that tastes great; it's about creating one that works in the real world. What's one behind-the-scenes challenge in food innovation you think deserves more attention? -Founder, Safa lone Shelf Theory #FoodProductDevelopment #FoodInnovation #FoodTechnology #FoodScience #ResearchAndDevelopment #FoodConsulting #FoodManufacturing #NewProductDevelopment #CPG #FMCG #FoodStartup #ProductDevelopment #Commercialization #ShelfLife #ShelfTheory

Is fiber becoming the new protein? For years, protein dominated consumer interest. Fiber, by comparison, was often treated as a secondary consideration. That gap appears to be narrowing. Recent industry reports show a growing number of food and beverage products being launched or marketed with fiber as a key feature. That shift matters because ingredients become commercially important when consumers start actively looking for them. Protein followed that path years ago, becoming a nutrient shoppers used to compare products and evaluate value. Fiber may be entering a similar stage. It may not replace protein, but it is no longer operating in its shadow. For brand owners, is fiber showing up earlier in your product development conversations than it used to? #DietaryFiber #NutritionTrends #FunctionalIngredients #FoodInnovation #ProductDevelopment #BioTree

How many packaged food brands are truly transparent? Every day, millions of people buy packaged food believing what's written on the label. "Natural." "Premium Quality." "No Preservatives." "Rich in Nutrition." But here's a question worth asking: How many of these claims are backed by evidence rather than marketing? Consumers don't just deserve attractive packaging. They deserve: -Safe ingredients _ Consistent quality - Scientific testing - Transparent documentation - Honest communication In today's world, trust is becoming the most valuable ingredient in any packaged food product. The brands that will lead tomorrow are not the ones making the loudest claims. They will be the ones willing to prove their quality with transparency, science, and accountability. This isn't about criticizing the industry. It's about encouraging higher standards that benefit both responsible brands and consumers. What do you think? Should transparency become the new standard for every packaged food brand? 👇 I'd love to hear your perspective. #PackagedFood #FoodSafety #FoodQuality #QualityAssurance #FoodManufacturing #Transparency #ConsumerTrust #CleanLabel

These days we are at Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) FIRST 2026, and one thing stood out: innovation is becoming increasingly interconnected. Whether the conversation started with nutrition, taste, texture, affordability, or product differentiation, it quickly became clear that these challenges are no longer solved in isolation. Today's food and beverage manufacturers are expected to balance multiple priorities at once, while continuing to meet evolving consumer expectations. That's what made IFT FIRST such a valuable opportunity for dialogue. Throughout the event, our teams connected with customers, principals, and industry peers from across the value chain, exchanging perspectives on the trends shaping the future of food and beverage innovation. For Barentz, these conversations reinforce the importance of combining technical expertise, application development capabilities, and strong partnerships. Bringing innovative products to market is rarely about a single ingredient or technology; it is about connecting knowledge, insights, and capabilities to help solve increasingly complex challenges. A sincere thank you to everyone who spent time with our team in Chicago. We look forward to continuing the discussions and exploring new opportunities to innovate together. 🔍 What defines value in food today? It’s changing fast. A recent FoodNavigator article highlights how consumer expectations are reshaping the industry. Clean labels, reformulation efforts, and growing conversations around ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are pushing brands to think beyond cost and convenience and focus on transparency, functionality, and trust. For brands, the challenge isn't simply removing ingredients consumer's question. It's maintaining the taste, texture, quality, shelf life, and safety consumers expect while delivering a simpler, more recognizable ingredient statement. At MSI Express, we see this shift driving innovation across the food industry. Successful reformulation requires collaboration, technical expertise, and manufacturing agility to help brands bring cleaner-label products to market without compromising performance. As consumer preferences continue to evolve, the companies that balance transparency, nutrition, and product experience will be best positioned for long-term growth. The modern consumer is shifting, and the food industry has to keep up. With health and fitness awareness at an all-time high, highlighting functional, transparent ingredients is no longer optional for food brands—it is a baseline requirement. Consumers want food that tells a story and serves a purpose. Whether your brand is innovating in the gut-health space, boosting protein content, or simplifying ingredient lists, the goal is the same: Build trust through transparency. For food and beverage brands looking to stand out in a crowded market: • Focus on the "why" behind your sourcing. • Turn complex food science into simple consumer education. • Highlight both taste and function—consumers shouldn't have to choose. The future of food is functional. Brands that prioritize real nutrition will win long-term loyalty. How is your organization adapting to the growing demand for health-conscious options? #FoodIndustry #CPG #FoodInnovation #ProductDevelopment #NutritionTrends

Can a sauce deliver more protein without losing what makes it a sauce? Consumers increasingly expect healthier products, but they don't lower their expectations on taste, texture or eating experience. Adding protein is relatively straightforward. Creating a sauce that still tastes, feels and performs like a sauce is much harder. Working on your next product? Whether it's flavour, nutrition, texture or operational performance, we work alongside food manufacturers to turn ambitious ideas into products that perform. Learn more at www.solina.com

Some rebrands are cosmetic. This one is a company finally letting the world see how big its ambition always was. The Better Meat Co is now BMC Ingredients, opening its Rhiza whole-food mycelium up to far more than meat alternatives. Two formats are on the way: Rhiza Tex for texture and Rhiza Pro for solubility and emulsification, with a dedicated production facility slated for 2027. Here is co-founder and chief executive Paul Shapiro on the shift: "Our mission remains the same: to help food companies reduce cost while making more nutritious, sustainable, delicious foods. As food companies look for scalable, all-natural alternatives to increasingly expensive protein isolates, we're excited to offer a whole food mycelium ingredient that delivers nutrition, functionality, and versatility across categories." That is the quiet confidence of a team that has always been playing the longer game. BMC Ingredients is, truly, one of the best companies in the clean-label space today, and it is founded by a person you would be so lucky to know. Cost down, nutrition up, planet lighter... that is the whole brief, and very few are executing it with this much heart and integrity. #BMC #FoodInnovation #Mycoprotein

We don’t just develop products. We create experiences. Yesterday’s sensory evaluation session reminded me of one thing… A product can have the perfect formulation, great nutrition, and beautiful packaging. But if the first bite doesn’t make you want a second, nothing else matters. That’s why we spend hours tasting, observing, refining, and tasting again. Because you can measure protein, moisture, and pH… But you can’t measure, “I’d buy this again.” Behind every product on the shelf are countless prototypes, tiny tweaks, and sensory sessions that consumers never see. In the end, people don’t remember formulations—they remember how a product made them feel. ✨ What’s the first thing you notice when trying a new food product: taste, aroma, texture, or appearance? #FoodInnovation #SensoryEvaluation #ProductDevelopment #FoodScience #FoodManufacturing #RAndD #Blents

One of the biggest shifts in the mindset for founders is realizing that a successful formulation and a successful product aren't always the same thing. A product can taste incredible in the kitchen but still face challenges when it's time to manufacture at scale, achieve the desired shelf life, meet cost targets, or deliver a consistent consumer experience. That's why product development is about balancing technical feasibility, commercial viability, and consumer expectations not optimizing just one of them.
