Automate Smartsheet TODAY() Function Refresh

Have you ever noticed that the TODAY() function in Smartsheet doesn't always update automatically? That's because TODAY() refreshes only when the sheet is updated and saved. If no one opens or edits the sheet, your date-based formulas, reminders, and calculations can become outdated. A simple solution is to automate the refresh. Create a hidden helper date column, add a past date, then build a time-based workflow that runs every day. Set the trigger to When a date is reached, repeat it daily, add a condition to check that the helper date is in the past, and use the Record a Date action to write today's date. That single update refreshes the TODAY() function across your sheet. Managing multiple sheets? Use one reference sheet with cell links to refresh them all. If you have Bridge, you can also schedule an automatic daily sheet save for a completely hands-free solution. Need help building smarter Smartsheet automations?
