With support of NL Space Campus and Stellar Space Industries, following concept work at Leidse instrumentmakers School, we were able to prototype our patent-protected aluminium battery reactivation system. This compact low-cost technology lies at the heart of ZemQuest's innovation that shall make #clean #energy #affordable #offgrid. It will semi-automatically reactivate a #ZemBox 10-ft container for #5MWh #energy #storage on-site every day. Architecting the Future of Solar Energy! Today, the Center for Innovation on New Energies (CINE) hosted an inspiring and highly interactive edition of CINE Talks, bringing together researchers to discuss the next generation of photovoltaic technology. We had the pleasure of hearing from Dr. Andre Fonseca, who delivered a brilliant presentation titled "Quantum Dots as Interface Architects in Perovskite Solar Cells." The talk beautifully contrasted the dominant Silicon PV industry of "Today" with the flexible, high-efficiency Perovskite landscape of "Tomorrow," which is part of the efforts done at the Ana Flavia Nogueira. Dr. Fonseca detailed how quantum dots (QDs) can be leveraged as precise engineering tools to overcome the long-term stability and defect challenges that have historically limited perovskite solar cells: At the buried interface: Introducing CdS QDs between the electron transport layer (SnO2) and the perovskite absorber successfully reduces interfacial defects and accelerates charge extraction. At the top interface: Applying perovskite QDs triggers a dynamic halide exchange process that passivates defects, reduces recombination losses, aligns energy levels, and creates a robust barrier against moisture. Beyond the excellent technical presentation, the highlight of the day was the dynamic Q&A and active discussions that followed. 🚀 **New Efficiency Record in Tandem Solar Cells!**  A team from HZB and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin has just pushed the boundaries of photovoltaic performance – achieving **25.5% efficiency** with a CIGS-perovskite tandem cell, surpassing the previous 24.6% record for this material combination and cell size.  🔬 **What made it possible?**   - Optimized intermediate layers   - Systematic variation of CIGSe bottom cells (band gaps 1.05–1.1 eV)   - Tailored hole-transport materials (NiOx + SAMs)   - Refined electron-selective contacts (C60 deposition on ultra-thin LiF)  📊 This certified result now appears in the prestigious *Solar Cell Efficiency Tables* (the “Green Tables” in *Joule*) – a testament to both high performance and a cell area >1 cm² (1.081 cm², to be exact). Excited to share our new work in PRX Energy: "Red, White & Blue: Identifying Recombination Loss Mechanisms in Perovskite Solar Cells" https://lnkd.in/ejn5p4JZ Perovskite solar cells promise high efficiency, but nonradiative recombination—especially at interfaces—limits performance. In this study, we introduce a simple method to pinpoint the dominant recombination loss mechanism under operating conditions. By illuminating devices with red, blue, or white light, we can identify whether the front or back interface limits performance with ~97% accuracy. This approach offers a practical tool for targeted improvements in perovskite solar cell design.
