Unlike traditional operations that often require shipment breakdown and transfer in ambient conditions, our facility allows ULDs and skids to be moved directly into dedicated temperature-controlled environments, reducing handling touchpoints and minimizing product exposure risks. American Airlines Cargo has launched a dedicated pharmaceutical corridor linking Amsterdam and Brussels with major U.S. destinations via London Heathrow, providing an end-to-end temperature-controlled logistics solution for healthcare shipments. The service combines GDP-certified temperature-controlled trucking with American’s airfreight network, supporting 2°C to 8°C and 15°C to 25°C shipments while meeting IATA CEIV Pharma and Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standards to maintain cold chain integrity. Operating daily since May 1, 2026, the corridor is designed to provide pharmaceutical customers with a reliable, compliant and scalable solution by integrating standardised ground handling, transfer and air transport processes across Europe and the United States. FedEx and UPS just made it clear: healthcare is no longer a side business in parcel logistics it's the growth engine. Within weeks of each other, both carriers doubled down on pharma distribution: → UPS announced a $48M investment in 27 temperature-controlled cross-dock facilities across the North America, Europe, and Asia, built to move biologics and advanced therapies between air and ground without breaking the cold chain. → FedEx launched FedEx Life Sciences, a dedicated organization unifying its cold-chain storage, packaging, monitoring, and customs capabilities under one operating structure backed by a network of life science centers from Memphis to Singapore to Veldhoven. The numbers explain why. UPS's healthcare portfolio topped $11B in revenue last year. FedEx exited its fiscal year with nearly $10B in healthcare transportation revenue, up from $9B the year before. And industry-wide, demand for temperature-sensitive biologics is projected to grow at 8.3% 2033, reaching roughly $39B. A few things are driving this shift: • Biologics, GLP-1s, and cell/gene therapies have far less forgiving tolerances than traditional pharma many require strict ranges as narrow as 2-8°C, with some products needing cryogenic handling entirely. • The old model of stitching together separate vendors for storage, packout, air transport, customs, and last-mile is too fragile for products where a single temperature excursion can destroy the shipment's value. What's changing isn't just the equipment it's the operating model.
