The Digitale goes Carbon-neutral

At the beginning of this year, we decided that we want to become a carbon-neutral agency. Why?

1. We just have one earth, so let’s contribute to it’s protection, even though it’s just a very small contribution
2. We like to encourage others to take action as well (do good things and talk about it)
3. We believe, that a nature friendly environment is much more attractive for our employees, so it’s simply employer branding.

So, how did it go so far?

First, we tried to reduce carbon emissions, where possible, and evaluated the potentials. So we switched to a green energy provider for our office and replaced planes for trains for our business trips where / when possible. Actually even a trip from Munich to Hamburg can easily be done by train. Yes, Internet is kind of a problem, but at least you have some hours to work in a row, which is not possible when flying. Every employee who travels from time to time is equipped with a Bahncard Business, where green energy is already included when you book a train. Additionally we made sure, that even our website (www.the-digitale.com) is “green-hosted”.

Second, we evaluated a provider for carbon compensations, where we could support environmental projects to compensate those carbon emissions, that we were not able to reduce (e.g. hotels, some flights that are still left, rental cars, …). In this case, we collaborate with Atmosfair (www.atmosfair.de), one of the leading providers in Germany and following the “CDM-“ and “Gold Standard” for carbon compensations. So we can support different projects to compensate carbon emissions, we cannot reduce yet.

From now on, every trip we make will produce as little emissions as possible.

Just do it

Our internal “CO2-free-project” just took us several weeks from evaluation to rollout and I encourage everyone to think about going carbon-neutral as well. If there should be any questions about the experiences we made, just let me know, we are happy to share!
