Hush hush … huge news! 🤫 We’re taking our low-noise technology for installing offshore monopiles from concept to commercial offering. It also got a brand new name. We call it Osonic 🌊🔉 With the method successfully tested last year at our Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm, we’ve just signed a preferred supplier agreement with German energy infrastructure asset manager Luxcara. The company intends to use the installation method across its offshore wind portfolio in Germany. Osonic is a jetting technology attached to the monopile. It works by reducing the soil’s resistance to penetration, which enables the foundations to sink more quietly into the seabed with minimal impact on marine life. At Gode Wind 3, the innovative technology resulted in a substantial decrease in underwater noise levels compared to conventional pile-driving. Here, noise levels were reduced by over 99 % to a level just marginally above the ambient noise found in the German Bight in the North Sea. “We’re seeing increased interest from offshore wind developers across European key markets, and with this landmark agreement, we’re laying the groundwork for broader adoption of Osonic,” says Patrick Harnett, Executive Vice President and Chief Construction Officer at Ørsted.
