For the past few months, I've been working with Spotify on this year's Culture Next report, and what has stood out to me most is how this new data challenges generalizations about Gen Z. The generation spans 15 years, and the youngest (still in high school) have virtually nothing in common with the oldest (young professionals thinking about marriage and maybe even real estate). A few findings I keep coming back to: → Gen Z is embracing long-form media as a counter to doomscrolling, fueling a boom in educational podcasts and audiobooks. → They're way less fickle than marketers give them credit for.High-schoolers are actually the most loyal cohort, returningritualistically to their "comfort creators." → Brazilian Funk, born in Rio's favelas in the '80s, has become one of the fastest-growing genres on the platform, boosted by gymcore and auramaxxing. I also filmed a fireside chat with Jenny Haggard, Spotify’s Global Head of Thought Leadership and the report's author, talking through what surprised us about young people today and what brands get wrong about reaching this generation.
