After ghostwriting 2000+ posts for executives, I can tell you exactly how to build thought leadership that drives revenue. Most CEOs think it starts with posting on LinkedIn. Wrong. Great executive thought leadership is built on four steps that most people never see: 1. Strategy First Before we write a single word, we define your "category of one" positioning. What conversation do you own that nobody else can claim? We dig deep into your expertise, market dynamics, and contrarian viewpoints to find that unique intersection where you become the only voice that matters. 2. Profile as a Conversion Tool Your profile needs to be set up to polarise everyone who lands on your profile. Attract those who are target persona & good fit, push away everyone who isn’t. The result - it should make the right people want to work with you before they even send a message. 3. The Process Nobody Talks About Posting only works if you can stay consistent and volume of activity. Our process that in 1 hour of time = 12 pieces of content is: - Podcast-style interviews that extract your best ideas & insights - Journalist-trained writers (not "LinkedIn writers") to create authentic & compelling opinion pieces - We layer in data and research to back up content - We leverage our own data in what works for clients on LinkedIn - 3 rounds of edits to ensure every post advances your industry 4. Results That Count We track all the data and bring that into the following Strategic Content Sessions. You need to ensure your content is attracting, engaging the right target decision-makers. - Decision-maker engagement (VPs, C-suite at target accounts) - Qualified conversations started - Pipeline influenced Recent client results: - Tech CEO: $2.4M in closed deals - B2B SaaS CRO: 18 qualified SQLs in pipeline - Agency CEO: First inbound deal in 1 hour The executives winning on LinkedIn aren't just hitting post with some AI-generated surface-level copy. They're investing in intellectual rigour that is showcased through their quality of content they’re the expert in their field. Ready to build thought leadership that drives real business results?
How to Develop B2B Thought Leadership Strategies
Explore top LinkedIn content from expert professionals.
Summary
B2B thought leadership strategies are about showcasing expert knowledge and unique viewpoints to build trust and authority with business clients. These strategies go beyond simple content posting, requiring a well-planned approach that connects your expertise with your audience’s needs and drives measurable business outcomes.
- Define your niche: Pinpoint the unique area of expertise or industry insight that sets your company apart from others and build your content around that specialty.
- Activate multiple voices: Feature several leaders and experts from your organization in your content to expand reach and credibility, rather than relying on a single spokesperson.
- Mix content formats: Use a blend of articles, videos, interviews, and webinars to keep your messaging engaging and accessible to your target audience.

Thought leadership content is a powerful way for professional services firms to showcase expertise, build trust, and position themselves as industry authorities. By providing valuable insights and addressing client concerns, you can create content that truly resonates. Here’s how: 1️⃣ Address Key Client Questions Focus on the issues that matter most to your audience. What challenges do they face? What questions do they frequently ask? Examples: “How Does the No-Fault Divorce Law Affect Me?” “Preparing for an Employment Tribunal: Essential Steps.” “What Every Small Business Owner Should Know About Tax Planning.” Tip: Use tools like Google Trends or FAQs from client interactions to identify relevant topics. 2️⃣ Provide Unique Insights Go beyond surface-level information by offering actionable advice and perspectives based on your expertise. Include anonymised case studies or client examples to demonstrate real-world applications. Explain the implications of legal changes and how clients should respond. Example: Instead of just summarising a new regulation, outline practical steps clients can take to adapt. 3️⃣ Diversify Your Formats Using different content formats helps reach a broader audience and keeps your messaging fresh. Examples: Blog posts: Dive into specific legal topics. Webinars: Host discussions on trending issues. Infographics: Visual guides for complex processes. Whitepapers: Comprehensive resources for in-depth exploration. Tip: Test different formats to see what engages your audience most effectively. 4️⃣ Prioritise Clarity and Accessibility Professional content doesn’t have to be complicated. Keep it simple and client-focused. Use clear language and avoid jargon. Clients value understanding over technical terms. Organise content with subheadings, bullet points, and visuals to make it easy to navigate. Tip: Write as if explaining to someone unfamiliar with the topic. 5️⃣ Promote Strategically Great content is only effective if it reaches your audience. Distribute it across key channels to maximise visibility. Share posts on LinkedIn, newsletters, and your website. Encourage your team to amplify the reach by sharing on their profiles. Repurpose content into smaller pieces for social media, like turning a blog into multiple LinkedIn posts. Example: Use a blog on workplace rights to create short LinkedIn tips for employees. 6️⃣ Track and Optimise Results Monitor how your content performs and use the data to refine your strategy. Metrics to Track: Page views, time on site, shares, and conversions. Tip: Identify successful topics and formats, then double down on what works best. Thought leadership isn’t just about sharing knowledge—it’s about providing value and clarity to your audience. By focusing on your clients’ needs and delivering actionable content, your firm can strengthen trust, establish authority, and inspire confidence. 💬 What topics do you think would resonate most with your clients?

I keep seeing the same pattern repeat itself: the fastest-growing B2B teams aren’t betting on a single executive voice anymore, they’re activating many. When you design content around multiple leaders, credibility compounds and reach expands naturally. We put this into practice at Linked Revenue with a company that reached out 9 weeks before a major new product launch. The goal was to create trust quickly with a system that amplified executive insight without putting more on their plates. Here’s how we did it: 1. Identify the right executives + revenue-critical ideas We selected 3 executives and paired each one with a single, revenue-relevant message tied directly to the buyer journey (problem awareness → evaluation → differentiation → conviction). 2. Extract POV, not opinions (in one hour) Each exec participated in a single, focused 60-minute interview. Because the messages were aligned to their lived experience, the insight was already there, we simply pulled the narrative, logic, and real-world examples that buyers trust. 3. Create “thought leadership" assets that carry weight Each interview became a 1,000–1,500 word thought leadership article: strong POV, clear commercial relevance, and grounded in the executive’s real decisions and tradeoffs. 4. Systematic repurposing, not random posting Each parent asset was activated vertically across channels and then distributed horizontally over time, fueling 4–8 weeks of launch-ready content. One hour each with these 3 execs produced: - 3 thought leadership pillar articles - 12 executive LinkedIn posts - 15 message variants for testing - 3 newsletter editions Executive time is one of the most constrained resources in any company. If your content strategy requires more of it to break through the noise, the system is broken.

After running paid media and outbound for dozens of B2B accounts, the single biggest unlock we've found is connecting three motions most teams run in isolation: organic LinkedIn content, paid thought leader ads, and personalized outbound. Here's how the full loop works. Step 1: Organic content from your founder or executives. Your CEO or subject matter expert posts consistently on LinkedIn. Thought leadership, hot takes, customer stories. Not corporate fluff from the company page. Real, opinionated content from a real person. Everything downstream depends on it. The content is what gets promoted. The person behind it is who the retargeting and outbound comes from. Step 2: Sponsor that content as Thought Leader Ads. Take posts performing well organically and put paid behind them. TLAs promote a post from someone's personal profile. It looks native, feels organic, and outperforms traditional sponsored content in every account we've managed. Run on an Engagement objective with manual CPC bidding. We consistently see 2x to 3x cheaper costs compared to automated bidding or Reach objectives. Target at your ICP and upload your target account list as a matched audience for ABM. You're building an engaged audience that becomes the fuel for everything else. Step 3: Retarget engagers with conversational ads from the same person. People who engaged with your TLAs are warm. They recognize the person. Hit them with a Conversation Ad from that same exec's profile offering something concrete. Conversation Ads are more like text adventures than actual conversations. Effective for qualifying intent, but not where real relationship building happens. Step 4: Capture the engagement and push to outbound. This is where it becomes a true allbound system. Push TLA engagers through Clay. Push contacts into HeyReach for LinkedIn sequences or Instantly for email. A personalized connection request from the same exec whose content they've been engaging with converts at a completely different rate than cold outbound. It doesn't feel cold because it isn't. Step 5: Fill the gaps with mid-funnel content. Turn blog posts into document ads the prospect reads in-feed. Cut podcast episodes into clips and run as video view campaigns. These audiences stack into retargeting layers that make conversion campaigns cheaper and higher quality. Why this works: Most B2B companies run organic with no paid amplification, ads with no connection to outbound, or cold outbound with no warming layer. Organic feeds paid. Paid builds retargeting audiences. Retargeting warms prospects. Warm prospects convert at higher rates on outbound. Closed deals become new content. The loop restarts. We've seen accounts cut cost per lead by 30%+ within 60 days by connecting the TLA retargeting funnel to conversation ads. Adding outbound on top accelerates pipeline because you're reaching the same people through multiple channels with a unified message.

Most B2B teams are still running LinkedIn like it’s 2019. Company-page ads. Cold targeting. No signal tracking. Here’s the thing… in 2025, the most efficient ad format on LinkedIn isn’t a banner, a static image, or even a polished company video. It’s Thought Leader Ads. Why? Because they put people, not logos, front and center. And buyers trust people more than they trust brands. We’ve run thousands of LinkedIn campaigns for B2B companies across SaaS, IT, cybersecurity, and consulting. The reality is that the ads that consistently outperform are the ones that look and feel native. Posts that buyers want to engage with. When you get it right, Thought Leader Ads deliver: -Engagement rates 2–5x higher than traditional ads -Social proof that compounds over time (likes, comments, shares stay visible) -Pipeline signals you can actually act on: profile views, video completions, company-level engagement, new followers But it takes more than just boosting a random post. Here’s how we structure it. Step 1: Create a thought leadership engine We start with recorded interviews with executives or subject matter experts. From one conversation, you can spin out: A long-form YouTube video 3–5 short LinkedIn clips A blog post (from transcripts) Newsletter content Organic posts that become ads This way you get a repeatable system, not a guessing game. Step 2: Test before you spend Most teams boost posts blindly. Instead, test organically. Watch which posts generate engagement, saves, or strong comments. Then, amplify only the winners with paid Thought Leader Ads. Step 3: Target with precision LinkedIn’s native filters are fine for cold reach, but the real power comes from layering in data. We build custom account lists, upload intent-driven audiences, use DemandSense Premium Audiences, and retarget warm signals like video views or company page visits. That’s how you move from spray-and-pray to sniper-level precision. Step 4: Track the signals that matter The win isn’t the ad itself. It’s what you do with the signals it generates. LinkedIn profile views, new followers, newsletter signups, 75%+ video viewers, and company-level engagement all feed into warm nurture, connection flows, and retargeting. Done right, this motion builds three things every B2B company needs: Awareness at the right accounts Trust from the right buyers Pipeline from prospects who already know and respect you If your LinkedIn ads aren’t pulling their weight, this is where I’d start. When I'm working to drive demo pipeline for high-growth B2B SaaS — here’s the 5-step Thought Leader Ads playbook I run 👇 𝟭. 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿. They’re expensive and lower-performing. In our tests, we can beat CPCs by 10x with TLAs. Save them for retargeting once the prospect is familiar with the brand. 𝟮. 𝗥𝘂𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲. Use your CEO, founder, or subject matter expert’s posts. These ads blend into the feed, build trust, and drive engagement that company logos simply can’t. 𝟯. 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝘅 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 + 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 + 𝗖𝗧𝗔𝘀. We recently ran this for new product launch (ACV $24K) targeting executives. Our best posts: • Told the 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 of before/after, not just features. • Highlighted results and customer examples. • Used simple copy that spoke directly to the reader (“you”), not “audiences” But, don't forget the CTAs :) 𝟰. 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿. We tracked: • 𝗗𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲: 6.76 seconds (2.3x higher than company page ads) • 𝗖𝗧𝗥: 5% (12x higher) • 𝗖𝗣𝗖: $0.90 (11x lower) 𝟱. 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹-𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺. We combined Thought Leader Ads + retargeting (LinkedIn + Meta + GDN): ⬇️ LinkedIn drives qualified prospects ⬇️ Retarget on LinkedIn ⬇️ Retarget on Meta + GDN ☎️ Demo Booked 💬 Nurture via email ✅ Close The result? 📊 𝟰𝟭 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 💰 $𝟯,𝟴𝟭𝟲 𝗖𝗔𝗖 🔥 𝟲.𝟮𝟴𝘅 𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗦 Thought Leader Ads make this funnel feasible for SMB + Mid-market. Traditional ads couldn’t even break even. And Enterprise can scale it all day long. LinkedIn is evolving — and this is the new blueprint for efficient B2B growth. -- Want to scale your pipeline with Thought Leader ads? DM me or visit https://lnkd.in/g_Eu7mnY

Content without strategy is just noise. When you want to grow your business, every piece of content must matter. It’s not about posting for the sake of posting. Here’s the truth: Most B2B content fails to convert. It often aims to tick a box or impress peers. But if your content doesn’t address real buyer pain, it’s wasted effort. Years ago, I worked on a reporting project with Ebsta that pulled in tens of thousands of downloads without ads. It was relevant and timely. That’s how we got results. At cube19 (now Bullhorn Analytics), we focused on our ideal customer profile: scaling recruitment agencies and their investors. Our content didn’t just bring traffic. It sparked important conversations. We didn’t make it about us. We made it about them. Every piece had a purpose. Every post spoke to a discerning audience. We built trust through value, not fluff. Let’s be clear: Content that misses the mark costs you. You might have a team pushing out blogs and newsletters. But if sales say it’s not helping, you have a problem. It’s not the format; it’s the intent. Most so-called thought leadership is for your peers, not your buyers. That’s why it often sounds clever but falls flat. When I work with founders, we always start with these questions: What pain are we solving? Who feels it most urgently? How do we signal that pain at every stage of the funnel? Every piece of content must pull its weight. Focus on what matters. Make your content work for you.

A Content Director told me yesterday: “We’re sitting on so much unused content, it’s insane.” Most teams have a BIG distribution problem, and it's costing them more than they realize. Marketers churn out webinars, eBooks, and articles—then promote them with a couple of LinkedIn posts before jumping to the next project. They're focused on volume. More blog posts. More webinars. More, more, more. No matter how much they produce, they're always behind. Overwhelmed. Frustrated by the low ROI. But here's the thing: you can't expect to get full ROI from your content if you're only promoting it with a couple of LinkedIn posts. Content distribution isn’t an afterthought. It determines whether your content will be successful or not. Here's the distribution playbook we use for B2B companies with long sales cycles: 1. We develop highly relevant topics based on data from customer research and recent sales calls. 2. We select 3 subject matter experts within our client's organization who are comfortable on camera and willing to build their LinkedIn presence. 3. For each topic, we conduct a 1-hour video interview with an SME. 4. We curate the best insights from each interview recording and turn them into 1 long-form article, 5 video clips, and 8 LinkedIn posts. 5. We publish this content from the personal LinkedIn profiles of your SMEs (3-5 times per week). Personal LinkedIn profiles get 5x the reach of company pages, so you're missing out big time if you only focus on your company page. 6. We repurpose the interview content across other channels: → Articles and video clips on your website → Full interviews on YouTube → A weekly newsletter with the best insights 7. After 3 months, we launch LinkedIn Thought Leader Ads to amplify your experts' best-performing posts. 8. After 6 months, we launch an employee advocacy program to turn other employees into a powerful organic marketing channel with massive reach. We repurpose existing content to fuel this program. _____ 👉 Is your team stretched thin and are your SMEs too busy to write? At Leadwave, we've helped 50+ B2B companies create thought leadership articles, video clips, and LinkedIn posts from interviews with their experts. Marketing Leaders: You’ve got a brilliant CEO, endless call transcripts, and 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁. Here’s why… Your exec won’t write. Your SMEs don’t have time. Your calendar is a graveyard of interviews that never happened. And somehow…for reasons I cannot fathom... your content strategy still hinges on them “getting back to you.” Why do you continue to torture yourselves? 𝗦𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗕𝟮𝗕 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘀, 𝗦𝗠𝗘𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘀. No shame. It’s more common than you think. But here’s the uncomfortable truth: You’re not blocked by your executives. 𝗬𝗢𝗨’𝗥𝗘 𝗕𝗟𝗢𝗖𝗞𝗘𝗗 𝗕𝗬 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗬𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠. Your CEO or Founder should absolutely be the source of your best #content. 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘴 𝘠𝘖𝘜𝘙𝘚 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘢 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘋𝘰𝘤 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘢 𝘓𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘦𝘥𝘐𝘯 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵. And most SMEs? They’ve got meetings, opinions, and zero structure. So stop assigning Asana tasks….and 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗘𝗫𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦. Here’s how we do it at RevenueZen: 👉🏾 Create a "Voice" document Pull together every blog post, podcast clip, Slack rant, email, LinkedIn comment, or internal note. Drop it into one doc. Summarize tone, structure, and their best takes. 👉🏾 Feed it into a custom GPT or Claude project Upload that doc. Add a checklist for tone, hooks, and structure. Now you’ve got a writing assistant that actually sounds like them. 👉🏾 Hijack your next internal meeting Don’t beg for interviews. Steal 15 minutes from something already on the calendar. Ask sharp questions. Let them riff. That’s where the good stuff lives. 👉🏾 Mine your internal transcripts Webinars, sales calls, all-hands, Looms. Drop them into your AI workflow. Pull quotes, frameworks, hot takes, and mini case studies. It’s already there. 👉🏾 GPT or Grok for deep research Prompt it like a senior researcher. Ask it to summarize market takes, find the gaps, and show where your company can contribute something new. 👉🏾 Batch and schedule One 45-minute session or three 15 minute steals per month should get you: • 12 LinkedIn posts • 3 video clips • A newsletter • A blog post • A podcast episode • And actual pipeline, not content busywork When done right, your exec becomes a thought leader without ever opening Google Docs. And your content becomes legit: ✅ Real takes ✅ Information gain ✅ Authority ✅ Clear narrative ✅ Editorial polish ✅ No bottlenecks Most teams aren’t suffering from 𝗯𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀. They’re suffering from 𝗯𝗮𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Your founder has already said what needs to be said. You just didn’t hit record. If you want help building this, shoot me a DM and i'll create a system for you live. I hope today is the best day of your entire life. Cheers. 🚀

AI is eating B2B content, but not how you might think. With the explosion of AI agents (and machine-generated everything), your audience wants to put a face to your products and brand. We’re seeing a rebalancing of B2B content portfolios from majority band content like webinars and case studies to majority human content like LinkedIn, X, YouTube, and podcasts. Why? Our research shows that decision-makers trust executive thought leadership content more than conventional brand marketing. In the age of AI, the most human content wins. With the shift toward human over brand content, your experts need to be more visible (and authentic) on platforms where your audiences go to hear from real people. But here’s the thing: Your CxO’s job isn’t to be an influencer. They don’t have time for that. Their job is to humanize your brand at a time when humanity has never mattered more. The most effective thought leadership content… ✅ Communicates not just what you think but how you feel ✅ Features your personality, not just your perspective ✅ Doesn’t avoid conflict and controversy at all costs ✅ Doesn’t outsource your expertise and ideas ✅ Uses an editor to make your ideas pop ✅ Leads with a POV, not a pitch ✅ Requires lots of reps ✅ Is multi-channel
