The rationale for choosing the term "lingua" revolution. The word lingua originates from Latin. In everyday usage, it means “tongue.” The tongue is an organ of speech, and it can also represent language, as in lingua franca. On the other hand, Lingua Revolution is a term coined by the author to describe a phenomenon of change within a community’s worldview, preceded by the absorption of new ideas, concepts, or beliefs into the linguistic repertoire of a community. This change may occur through an enculturation process when a community encounters a foreign language deemed to belong to a superior civilisation, or through a method of indoctrination by divine agency. It has been observed that this change has occurred throughout human history and continues to take place worldwide. In discussing this phenomenon, we use the term “lingua revolution” rather than “language revolution.”
Our view is that a language revolution is more confined
to the cognitive domain of the human mind. In contrast,
the term lingua revolution is intended to capture changes
at the cognitive-psychological level of the human mind
and the innermost depths of human consciousness—his
soul. The difference is profound. It involves structural
change: an internalised transformation manifested by
the emergence of a new personal or communal identity.
Structural change occurs when a person or community
internalises new values and a new conception of life,
thereby changing their outlook and behavior. In contrast,
organisational change involves superficial adjustments.
such as adopting new clothing or mannerisms of speech,
often in imitation of others.
The term lingua revolution is therefore an inclusive
one. It encompasses the examination of the causes and
sources of change in a particular language or languages,
as well as the observation of the ramifications and
consequences of such changes. These consequences are
considered from a broader perspective, including human
feelings, experiences, consciousness, and reality—both
at the individual level and collectively as members of a
community.

At the close of the fourth century CE, Jerome of Stridon—renowned Latin scholar, theologian, and priest—undertook the monumental task of translating the Hebrew-Aramaic Bible into Latin. The result of this effort, now known as the Vulgate, has long been regarded as a foundational text of Western Christianity. In this volume, Paul Rodrigue investigates the sources that Jerome may have drawn upon in the process of translation.

Far from being just a rendering of the Hebrew-Aramaic Bible, the Vulgate emerges as a layered and multifaceted translation, shaped not only by the Hebrew-Aramaic text but also by a broad array of additional sources. Through a series of carefully chosen case studies, Rodrigue analyses a number of verses from the Joseph narrative in Genesis, as well as from Daniel and Esther. Each Vulgate passage is meticulously compared with its equivalents in the Hebrew-Aramaic Bible, the Septuagint, the Latin translations of the Septuagint, the Greek versions of Aquila, Symmachus, and Theodotion, and—where applicable—the Targumim and rabbinic writings.

This comparative approach reveals Jerome’s engagement with texts in four languages—Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and Latin—and highlights his responses to both Jewish and Christian exegetical traditions. Importantly, the selected translations span Jerome’s career as a translator of the Hebrew-Aramaic Bible: Daniel at its outset (392–393), Genesis mid-career (late 390s), and Esther at its close (404–405). As such, Rodrigue’s analysis offers a chronologically nuanced study of Jerome’s evolving translation method (sensus de sensu), providing invaluable insight for scholars of biblical studies, late antiquity, translation theory, and the transmission of sacred texts.

This study reexamines a group of stone seals from Ḥorbat Naḥal Yatir and argues that earlier interpretations identifying some of them as Paleo-Hebrew administrative tools are unconvincing. It proposes instead that one key artifact, Seal No. 2, is best understood as a Roman military bread stamp. In addition, the study offers new interpretations for several other seals from the site, suggesting that they relate to local bread production within the rebel community. Together, these findings provide a revised and more nuanced understanding of the site's final occupation and the interactions between the Jewish rebels and the Roman army.

This presentation traces the development of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) from ancient oral and written traditions to the medieval Masoretic codices. It highlights the role of scribes in preserving, editing, and transmitting Israel's traditions, particularly during the Persian period when many biblical texts assumed their literary form. The presentation also explores the textual diversity reflected in the Dead Sea Scrolls and examines the reorganization of the divine world in Second Temple Judaism through the growth of angelology. What does it mean that humankind is created in the image of God and his likeness, as expressed in Genesis 1,26-27? Many have proposed various answers to this question, often based on exhaustive but inconclusive exegesis or overextended eisegesis. This study explores whether the Apostle Paul refers to a specific charism of leadership
in Romans 12:8 by analyzing the participle ὁ προϊστάμενος and its contextual usage.
While most Romanian Bible translations and several modern international
versions render προΐστημι as “to lead” or “to govern,” some exegetes suggest that the
term denotes charitable or supportive care rather than formal leadership. The article
concludes that the most plausible understanding of ὁ προϊστάμενος in Romans
12:8 is that of a believer who provides aid or care for others, rather than a formal
ecclesial leader. Nonetheless, since this charism was often exercised by community
leaders or influential individuals, the translation “the one who leads” remains acceptable,
provided it is properly qualified in teaching contexts. The study ultimately
highlights the indispensable role of the biblical teacher in clarifying exegetical ambiguities
that cannot be resolved solely through translation.

This paper continues an inquiry begun in Can Ritual Know More Than Its Participants?, which explored the possibility that ritual signs may preserve meanings and rationales that exceed the conscious awareness of those who first receive or perform them. The present study advances that question by asking whether ritual participants themselves may know more than they understand. If a ritual can embody intelligibility beyond explicit explanation, then participation in the ritual may constitute a form of knowledge not reducible to conceptual awareness.

The investigation focuses upon the rabbinic category of the chok, the divine decree whose rationale is traditionally regarded as hidden. Particular attention is given to the paradoxical claim that Moses understood the rationale of the red heifer, even though the rite is frequently presented as the paradigmatic example of an incomprehensible commandment. Rather than treating the rationale of a chok as a secret deferred to a future revelation, this paper explores the possibility that the rationale is already present within the sign itself and concealed not by time but by interpretation. The question therefore shifts from chronology to hermeneutics: not when the rationale will be revealed, but how it may be known.

To examine this possibility, the paper considers the relationship between legal interpretation and symbolic signification, arguing that a sign may preserve meanings that later explanations fail to exhaust. The discussion culminates in a reexamination of the “tokens of virginity” in Deuteronomy 22, proposing that the narrative may preserve a covenantal rationale obscured by later forensic readings. Whether or not the specific interpretation advanced is accepted, the broader argument suggests that ritual signs function as living structures of meaning whose rationales may be discovered through deeper participation and interpretation rather than through the arrival of a future disclosure. In this sense, ritual participants may indeed know more than they understand.

This article focuses on the pericope Deut 22:1–8, in light of Moshe Weinfeld’s proposal concerning Deuteronomy’s connection to wisdom literature. We examine the laws in this pericope, most of which deal with animals, and point out some thematic parallels to those laws in Mesopotamian wisdom literature. With regard to the law in Deut 22:8, which requires a person to build a parapet around the roof of his house, we point to Mesopotamian parallels suggesting that the aim of this law is prevention of suicide. The principle of a person’s responsibility for his fellow’s life, expressed in this law, is thematically connected to the notions of one’s responsibility for his fellow’s property and for the preservation of nature’s wild species, which underlie the other laws in the pericope under discussion.
