Eric Perl, in his provocatively titled book, Theophany: The Neo-Platonic Philosophy of Dionysius the Areopagite, argues not only that Dionysios' thought is thoroughly Neo-Platonic and fully compatible with Christianity, but that "the Dionysian doctrine of cosmic and ecclesiastical hierarchy is not only consistent with but essential to holy tradition" and that "Dionysius represents precisely those doctrines which are most typical of [Eastern] Orthodoxy in distinction from the west." 1 Like it or not, it is not that easy to ignore hierarchy in the sense the Areopagite had in mind in the Corpus Dionysiacum (CD). 2 It is Dionysios who is credited with the first use of the word "hierarchy" as an abstract noun and the influence of this abstract notion of hierarchy has been far-reaching and is ubiquitous within society, not only within the Christian churches. Two related ideas continue to trouble me in the aftermath of reading Perl on Dionysios. The first is the thought that in our natural suspicion of hierarchy we may be sowing the very seeds that will keep us from ever being able to tap the wisdom of the CD. The second, is that if Perlwhose arguments are thorough, persuasive, and beautifulis correct in both his understanding of neo-Platonic hierarchy and in his assertion that this is the thoroughgoing philosophical backdrop for the Areopagite, then hierarchy isn't just a convenient construct dreamed up by churchmen that helps us get closer to God if we follow the rules of order, nor is it just a description of the functional workings of the

A recent extension proposes to apply the S-I-C-T outcome scalar O = tanh(kΦ) to deep learning, casting grokking (delayed generalization on small algorithmic tasks) as a prebifurcation transition with Cohesion (C), estimated from gradient cosine similarity, as the "hidden multiplier," and framing the result through an Everett-style "effective collapse into one realized branch." We take the proposal seriously and audit it against first principles before formalizing anything. The arithmetic of the worked example is correct, and grokking is a genuine, well-documented phase transition, so the ambition is sound. However, four claims do not survive scrutiny as stated: (i) the two-model example is a postdiction-scores are assigned after the outcome is known, and the model imposes only a single linear constraint, so almost any ordering is reachable; (ii) in the code actually provided, C enters additively and symmetrically with S, so it is not a multiplier; (iii) the proposed cohesion estimator (consecutive-step minibatch gradient cosine) is numerically dominated by batch noise-in a controlled run it sits at c ≈ 0.49 ± 0.10 irrespective of training phase, and therefore cannot resolve the very transition it is meant to detect; and (iv) the Everett/quantum-collapse framing is a category error that the original S-I-C-T paper itself explicitly disavowed. We then state the disciplined version: only when Cohesion sets the feedback coupling (κ = kc) does "Cohesion is the multiplier" become a derivable pitchfork at c crit = 1/k. Finally we give a pre-registered, falsifiable protocol whose decisive test is whether any S-I-C-T order parameter leads the generalization jump rather than merely tracking it. The contribution is a clear separation of the defensible idea from the indefensible packaging, plus the experiment that would actually settle it.

S-I-C-T is a computable framework for steering complex adaptive systems toward desired long-term outcomes before bifurcations irreversibly select a failure attractor. It maps four pillars-Structure (S), Information (I), Cohesion (C), and Transformation (T)-onto control parameters of a tunable dynamical landscape and yields a bounded outcome scalar O = tanh(kΦ) ∈ (-1, +1). This edition differs from the original working paper in one respect that we consider essential: every substantive claim has been checked against first principles before being asserted, and each is tagged with an explicit epistemic status. We confirm that (i) the feedback dynamics are a genuine mean-field (Curie-Weiss) self-consistency relation, and (ii) the three-regime bifurcation structure is real and numerically reproducible. We also correct two over-claims in the original: the static map O = tanh(kΦ) is a convenient saturating response, not a mean-field result on its own; and Cohesion is not a "multiplier" in the additive potential as written-it enters symmetrically with Structure. We then show that a small, principled structural change-letting Cohesion set the feedback coupling-turns the framework's headline insight ("Cohesion is the hidden multiplier") into a derivable theorem rather than a slogan. The result is a model that claims less but proves more. The Standard Model of Particle Physics (SM) contains a large number of empirical parameters whose origin remains unexplained. Among these, fermion masses, mixing angles, CP-violating phases, and the existence of three fermion generations are independent inputs rather than consequences of a deeper organizing principle. This work explores the hypothesis that these parameters emerge from large deviation properties of the multifractal attractor describing the endpoint of the entropy flow. In this first part, we motivate the relevance of Large Deviation Theory (LDT) to fundamental physics and introduce the necessary mathematical background. We emphasize the role of convex rate functions, their minima, and their overlap structure, illustrating how discrete, stable saddles emerge dynamically. Representative examples are provided to guide physical intuition and prepare the ground for subsequent application to SM parameters.

We present the S-I-C-T framework, a heuristic operator model that decomposes the state of a complex system into four scalar quantities-Structure (S), Information (I), Cohesion (C), and Transformation (T)-and proposes a single organizing inequality, S + C ≥ I + T , as a candidate condition for dynamical coherence. We are explicit at the outset about what this is and is not: the inequality is posited, not derived from any conservation law or variational principle, and the framework is offered as a pre-paradigmatic organizing scheme rather than an established physical theory. Our contributions are (i) precise, computable definitions of the four operators on a configuration manifold, including three complementary operationalizations of Cohesion (a spectral/Lyapunov margin, an integrated-information measure, and a persistence functional); (ii) an honest catalogue of structural analogies-not equivalences-to integrated information theory, the free-energy principle, synergetics, and the renormalization group; and (iii) a controlled computational illustration on the two-dimensional Ising model, in which the four proxies are computed from first principles of statistical mechanics and the order parameter Λ = S + C-IT is shown to change sign near the Onsager critical temperature. We stress that this illustration is a re-description of well-understood physics and is not evidence that the framework predicts anything new. We close with a candid list of limitations, the dimensional and falsifiability problems that remain open, and the conditions under which S-I-C-T would graduate from heuristic to theory.

Mother-tongue or first language (L1)-based multilingual education programs are necessarily complex and may require a more nonlinear approach to program design. These programs operate within and act upon a range of psycholinguistic, sociolinguistic, and sociopolitical issues that include language structure and literacy assessment, language policy and politics, and cultural and social behavior change linked to literacy expansion. The broad use of one-size-fits-all outcomes-based design approaches for L1-based multilingual education programs often result in designs that are retrofitted to new country settings and ill-suited to the context in which they are implemented. CGenome is an interdisciplinary framework that explores hierarchy, emergence, structural memory, and large-scale cosmic organization. The work investigates whether common organizational principles may underlie the evolution of complex systems across multiple scales, from black holes and galaxies to large-scale cosmic structures. The framework is presented as a conceptual research program intended to stimulate scientific discussion and future observational investigation.

In this paper, we deploy a complexity theory as the foundation for integration of different theoretical approaches to sustainability and develop a rationale for a complexity-based framework for modeling transitions to sustainability. We propose a framework based on a comparison of complex systems' properties that characterize the different theories that deal with transitions to sustainability. We argue that adopting a complexity theory based approach for modeling transitions requires going beyond deterministic frameworks; by adopting a probabilistic, integrative, inclusive and adaptive approach that can support transitions. We also illustrate how this complexity-based modeling framework can be implemented; i.e., how it can be used to select modeling techniques that address particular properties of complex systems that we need to understand in order to model transitions to sustainability. In doing so, we establish a complexity-based approach towards modeling sustainability transitions that caters for the broad range of complex systems' properties that are required to model transitions to sustainability.

Socioeconomic and ecological systems exhibit complex, interdependent behaviour which is often difficult to model and understand. This is due to the complex reorganisation of key sub-system processes involving nonlinear, cross-scale and cross-sector interactions in real time. Hence, predictive models of complex social-ecological systems are often subject to large uncertainties. We propose an approach for evaluating land-use adaptations for biofuel production, using Bayesian networks and integrating research on the food, water and energy sectors. The approach is intended to facilitate interdisciplinary consideration of cross-scale and intersector dependencies. We applied this approach to 2 examples of land-use strategies and show how the resilience of a strategy that meets the new South African national biofuel production target can be assessed in relation to climate change. Cross-disciplinary consideration of variables may be enhanced through the sensitivity analysis enabled by Bayesian networks, which is used to conceptualise the conditional causal dependencies between subsystem variables. We formulate and run a national scale South African model which links the impacts of projected climate change effects in southern Africa to irrigated agriculture, water storage planning and biofuel production. We demonstrate how the approach can be used to evaluate land-use changes in different projected climate change scenarios and land-use combinations, and how conflicting demands between water, food and biofuel energy sources may be preliminarily identified and assessed in an integrated probabilistic framework. Evaluating this problem in the context of climate change and water-related limits to growth enables research to support integrated analysis and planning for biofuel production and development. The work proposes that many contemporary crises—ecological, social, cultural, and cognitive—may be interpreted not only as failures of existing systems but also as symptoms of a transition between distinct modes of understanding and organizing reality. Periods of instability, contradiction, and uncertainty are therefore approached as characteristic features of profound transformation rather than merely signs of decline.
A central role is played by the concept of coherence, understood not as uniformity or rigid order, but as the capacity to maintain compatibility among diverse processes undergoing continuous change. From this perspective, life, consciousness, technology, and artificial intelligence appear not as isolated domains but as different expressions of evolving organizational principles capable of entering new regimes of compatibility.
Artificial intelligence is viewed not as the source of transformation but as a potential observational instrument capable of revealing distributed patterns, weak correlations, and multi-scale structures that often remain invisible to conventional human perception. In this sense, AI may function as a “mirror of coherence,” helping to identify emerging forms of planetary organization.
The central thesis of the work is that the present era may be understood as an ontological metamorphosis: a transition from a worldview based on separation, fragmentation, and isolated entities toward one centered on interdependence, relationality, emergence, and coherence. This does not imply abandoning scientific knowledge; rather, it suggests extending it toward more integrative frameworks capable of bringing matter, life, consciousness, and technology into a common conceptual horizon

For four hundred years, Western philosophy has been confined within the subject-object dichotomy, persistently asking how the subject accesses the object yet rarely tracing the genesis of this division itself. This paper addresses that fundamental question by developing a generative account of human cognition. Its core claim is that cognition does not passively represent a pre-given world, but participates in the generation and stabilization of reality as it appears. First, it establishes Quxiang-Bilei (image extraction and analogical correlation) as the meta-operation of all cognition, structured as a closed loop: Quxiang (extracting stable structural differences) → Bilei (analogical correlation) → verification → feedback. Second, it shows that xiang (image) evolves through four stages-primordial, symbolised, formalised, and algorithmic-each sustained by the same Quxiang-Bilei logic. Third, it reconstructs the genesis of the subject-object dichotomy in four phases: primordial differentiation → symbol fixation → formation of the self-image → theoretical reification. Fourth, it reinterprets Descartes, Kant, and Hegel: Descartes' cogito is a structural displacement of the lived body by a symbolically constituted self-image; Kant's a priori categories are operational paradigms sedimented through long-term survival verification and limit convergence; Hegel's absolute spirit is a totalising expansion of cognition that neglects the unimageable field. This paper provides a generative grounding for the subject-object dichotomy in Western epistemology, clarifies the limits of artificial intelligence, and shows that reality manifests itself as a stable generative structure through the Quxiang-Bilei loop. Cognition constructs xiang, not reality as such.

Modern intellectual life is divided between disciplines that explain how systems persist and disciplines that explain why actions are justified. Systems theory, cybernetics, complexity science, evolutionary theory, and cognitive science provide increasingly sophisticated accounts of adaptation, regulation, coordination, and emergence, yet struggle to explain why certain states of affairs become experienced as morally obligatory, legitimate, or normatively binding. Ethics, political philosophy, legal theory, and related traditions provide powerful accounts of obligation, legitimacy, justice, and moral authority, yet rarely explain how such normative structures emerge, stabilize, and persist within adaptive systems.

The role of linguistic diversity and its importance for the "health" of linguistic ecosystems is discussed in the light of insights drawn from evolutionary biology and provided by the theory of complex adaptive systems.

Cosmic Evolution, by Eric J. Chaisson is arguably one of the original "core" texts of big history. Despite being published over 20 years ago, it is still relevant for its explanation of the cosmological and thermodynamic underpinnings of the evolution of complex systems over the span of time. It was also a pioneering work because it proposed that we can quantify the degree of complexity of systems by determining the quantity of the "free energy rate density" or FERD (abbreviated as "Ω m " in Cosmic Evolution) that flows through a system. Although Chaisson advises that his correlations of FERD to complexity degree is subject to various limitations and generalizations, careful analysis of the arguments and examples used to support FERD indicates that it is even less likely to be as reliable and quantifiable than he purports for at least the following reasons: 1. The author offers a relatively short list of criteria for a system to qualify being "complex" that in turn results in the inclusion of systems that are not classified as complex by usual criteria. 2. Free energy rate density is not compared against other complexity metrics and subsequently seems to serve as its own "gold standard." The lack of comparisons results in a tautological argument and sometimes questionable conclusions. 3. The argument for FERD sometimes deviates from the hypothesis that FERD is a good way to measure the degree of a system's complexity to a claim that it also measures complex functions and structures as well. 4. The FERD that he reports are often actually for the total energy flow through a system. Hence, a much more efficient complexity might only appear to be less complex. 5. Complex systems have many variables that can confound attempts to make reliable and precise generalizations, including good metrics for their degree.

This paper is the third in a series of six examining time as an emergent property across physical, cognitive, and normative scales. The first two papers established that temporal experience is neither a fundamental physical dimension nor a direct perceptual given, but a construction produced through narrative elicitation at the cognitive level and through relational correlations at the quantum level. This paper extends the argument to the thermodynamic and systemic scale. Drawing on Boltzmann's statistical mechanics, Prigogine's theory of dissipative structures, and Rovelli's relational interpretation of thermodynamic time, it argues that the arrow of time-the irreversibility that distinguishes past from future at the macroscopic level-is itself an emergent property of complex systems far from thermodynamic equilibrium. The paper demonstrates that Prigogine's dissipative structures, which maintain order through continuous energy throughput, generate their own internal temporal architectures: irreversible developmental trajectories, bifurcation points, and path dependencies that are not predictable from the microscopic laws governing their components. This thermodynamic analysis is then connected to the cognitive and quantum frameworks established in the preceding papers, yielding a unified account of temporal emergence across three scales. The paper concludes by establishing the conceptual bridge to the fourth paper, which examines temporal structures in complex adaptive systems-including legal and normative systems-where Goodhart's Law operates as a specific case of thermodynamic-style irreversibility induced by measurement.

Lakatos's (1978) methodology of research programs is renowned for describing the evolution of scientific theories through a combination of heuristic mechanisms that guide their development. Various attempts to apply Lakatos's framework to research programs in logic and mathematics are found in (Priest, 1989; Aberdein and Read, 2009; Hallett, 1979a). The paper draws on Lakatosian assessments of progressive and degenerating mathematical theories found in (Hallett, 1979a) to advance a heuristic proposal for studying the progress and development of logical theories. The upshot is a characterization of Lakatos's framework as applied to logical theories, along with a defense of a holistic approach that acknowledges the iterative relationship between empirical input and logical refinement during the process of development of progressive logical theories.

THE PATTERN OF REALITY: Dynamic Cyclical Movement Across Scales Governed by Relational Balance is a large-scale interdisciplinary philosophical and civilizational work examining the structural patterns underlying existence, consciousness, ecological systems, civilization, psychology, science, and the future of humanity. The central ontological principle developed throughout the work proposes that reality operates not through isolated static entities, but through dynamic relational processes governed by adaptive balance, cyclical transformation, interdependence, and structural consequence across scales of existence.

The work also examines humanity’s historical movement from integrated observation toward fragmented perception, arguing that many modern divisions between science, philosophy, religion, psychology, politics, and ecology emerged through conceptual separation rather than from reality itself. In response, the book proposes a relational ontological framework intended to restore structural coherence across domains of human understanding without reducing complexity or diversity.

Rather than presenting itself as ideology, doctrine, or metaphysical absolutism, this work is offered as an observational framework grounded in structural recognition, interdisciplinary inquiry, and direct examination of recurring patterns across systems and scales. Its purpose is not to demand belief, but to encourage deeper observation concerning the conditions sustaining continuity, stability, adaptation, and long-term human survival within an increasingly interconnected and unstable world.

At its core, THE PATTERN OF REALITY argues that reality continues through relationship, movement, adaptation, and balance, and that the future of civilization may increasingly depend upon humanity’s capacity to recognize and live within the structural conditions governing existence itself.

This article develops a fully operationalizable theory of institutional evolution grounded in the behavioural-primitives framework-a set of seven core constructs (signal, filter, stimulus, reaction, pattern, stability, spectrum) defined and operationalized below for self-contained reference. We demonstrate that competition among institutions is not a loose metaphor for natural selection but is natural selection applied to behavioural patterns, satisfying the three Darwinian conditions of variability, inheritance, and differential survival in ways that are directly measurable using digital trace data. The unit of selection is the behavioural cluster-a stable, statistically distinguishable grouping of agent trajectories identified through stationarity testing and clustering algorithms. Competition among clusters is quantified via Markov transition matrices that track agent flows between behavioural patterns across time intervals. Five selection mechanisms are identified and operationalized: functional efficiency, cognitive ease (processing fluency), network externalities (increasing returns to adoption), institutional complementarity (epistatic relations among clusters), and contact frequency. Each institution passes through a four-stage life cycle-emergence, consolidation, transformation/dominance, and decline/disappearance-with the speed of traversal determined by information-field parameters (density, entropy, asymmetry, propagation speed). The resilience of any institution is a function of six measurable factors: behavioural inertia, transformation costs, network effects, normative consolidation, diffusion speed, and adaptivity. We illustrate the framework through four historically documented cases-duelling, family structures, institutionalized aggression, and money-each analysed using the operational vocabulary of signals, filters, spectra, transition matrices, and stationarity. We extend the framework through convergent evidence from computational institutional modelling, norm-elicitation methodology, and platform-governance research. The digital acceleration of all three Darwinian mechanisms is discussed, with implications for platform governance and institutional design.

This work introduces Cognitive Democracy, an exploratory theoretical framework for evolutionary governance in the age of human–AI coevolution. It addresses a growing structural mismatch between traditional democratic institutions—originating in low-complexity ancient governance contexts—and the high-complexity, AI-augmented systems that characterize contemporary civilization.

Drawing on interdisciplinary foundations in behavioral neuroscience, political theory, complexity science, and artificial intelligence governance, the book examines how cognitive constraints shape political decision-making and institutional performance. It focuses on the interaction between human cognitive architecture, institutional power structures, and emerging artificial cognitive systems.

The framework proposes a set of conceptual governance principles, including sortition–merit hybrid selection, cognitive accountability mechanisms, AI-assisted deliberation under strict human authority constraints, and cyclical power architectures designed to reduce long-term concentration of power.

Rather than proposing the replacement of democracy, the work positions itself as a theoretical inquiry into its possible evolutionary transformation under conditions of increasing systemic complexity and human–AI coevolution.

This brief paper explores the divergent conceptual foundations within Austrian capital theory, highlighting significant differences in the treatment of capital. It contrasts three approaches: one emphasizes the critical role of monetary valuation in economic calculation and decision-making and two focus on physical aspects of the production process. Of these physical approaches, one concerns the intertemporal production structure, and the other addresses the coordination of heterogeneous capital goods. The paper concludes with a proposal for a unified terminology to ensure clarity and consistency in Austrian economic discourse, advocating for terminological precision to maintain coherence within the field.

Failure of computer based information systems had been a source of major concern in the modern technological era. Information System (IS) researchers have spent a significant amount of their time and effort in understanding the recurring failure of Information Systems. Studies in this regard have ranged from being primarily technical in their approach to those having a much stronger socio-technical bias. The purpose of this paper was to analyze information system failures using the lens of complexity theory. Approach: Complexity theory was proposed as an alternative paradigm for understanding and analyzing Information System failures. Other research frameworks within which system failures were studied were also discussed. The core concepts of complexity and the salient features of information systems were elucidated. It was shown that information systems could be interpreted as complex entities both from the structural and functional viewpoints. Pictorial representations were given to corroborate this point. Results: It was shown that the complexity framework could be utilized to understand the different types of system failures, viz. process, correspondence and interaction failures in a more meaningful way. The idea of recurrent failures was also examined in the context of complexity theory. It was shown how such failures could be tackled much better by using lessons drawn from complexity. The inadequacy of the systems approach was pointed out that necessiated the introduction of complexity. Conclusions: It appeared that adopting certain features of complexity in the analysis, design and management of information systems could help in avoiding certain failures related to information systems. Some of these features were facilitating the process of coevolution, exploring the space of possibilities and encouraging self-organization and emergent behaviour.

Neste texto, abordamos alguns aspectos envolvidos no ensino-aprendizagem de leitura, em particular a formação para o letramento visual. Procuramos observar o trabalho desenvolvido com os gêneros que aliam as linguagens verbal e visual, presentes nas atividades de leitura de duas coletâneas de livros didáticos de Língua Portuguesa do Ensino Médio. Nosso objetivo foi compreender em que medida as atividades colaboram para o desenvolvimento de capacidades leitoras requeridas para as especificidades desses gêneros. Para tal, recorremos aos pressupostos enunciativo-discursivos de abordagem sócio-histórica do Círculo de Bakhtin, aliados a fundamentos da Semiótica Social para a compreensão da multimodalidade. A análise dos dados revelou que a incidência dos gêneros multimodais nas duas coletâneas estudadas é pouco representativa. This paper examines the structural gap between the scale of contemporary crises and the cognitive capacity of individuals to perceive and act in accordance with their consequences. Drawing on futures studies, speculative design, and political theory, it proposes a speculative artefact-a personal cognitive mirroras a reflective infrastructure: an offline, decentralized device that reveals patterns of thought and action without optimizing, recommending, or extracting. The paper develops the concept of subject-model conflict at the individual level, arguing that most existing digital systems deepen rather than resolve this conflict by designing for a rational agent that does not exist. Four speculative vignettes illustrate the three structural gaps the mirror addresses: between the scale of action and its consequences, between collective knowledge and individual access at the moment of decision, and between where causes lie and where people look for them. The paper holds open a central tension-between reflective emancipation and the capture of the reflective frame-as the most honest position available.

Resumen: Este capítulo hace una reconstrucción histórico-tecnológica de la computación y la cibernética, desde sus antecedentes conceptuales en la Antigüedad hasta su consolidación como infraestructuras estratégicas en el ámbito militar contemporáneo. Mediante una genealogía crítica, se exploran hitos fundamentales como la lógica simbólica, las máquinas de cálculo mecánico, la máquina universal de Turing, la teoría matemática de la información y el surgimiento de la cibernética como ciencia de los sistemas de control retroalimentados. Se analiza cómo estas tecnologías emergieron en un contexto de guerra, sobre todo durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, y cómo fueron instrumentalizadas en doctrinas como C2 y C4ISR. Se demuestra que la computación es no solo una invención exclusivamente técnica, sino una arquitectura de poder, codificada por lógicas militares, epistémicas y políticas. Aunque se presentan estudios comparativos sobre desarrollos en Estados Unidos, la Unión Soviética (URSS), Chile y China, el énfasis recae en la transformación del pensamiento estratégico a partir del paradigma informacional. En última instancia, se argumenta que la cibernética y la computación transformaron no solo la guerra, sino también la forma como las sociedades piensan, gobiernan y se defienden en la era digital.

This paper presents the emergence-first grand unified theory: the claim that validated entropy reduction is the universal primitive of contribution value, that emergence is the mechanism by which complex order arises from local interaction under feedback, and that these two ideas are not metaphors for each other but are formally connected through the Shannon-Landauer-Bennett lineage in physics and information theory. The theory is not a collection of organizational case studies. It is a unified account of why feedback-driven emergence is the correct structural foundation for any system that measures, rewards, or governs complex contribution, and why any system that substitutes representation for the underlying condition will decay predictably, measurably, and often catastrophically. The formal governance implementation of this theory is Randall's Feedback V4 (RF V4), documented separately. The protocol implementation is the Extropy Engine, documented in the Extropy Codex. This paper is the theoretical layer: the argument for why the framework is constructed the way it is, grounded in physics, information theory, complexity science, and the formal results that RF V4 establishes. The model is allowed to lose. Every claim made here specifies or implies a falsification condition. That posture is not rhetorical humility. It is the first architectural consequence of the theory itself. Entropy is not a metaphor. The tendency of the universe toward disorder is a physical law, and the formal connection between physical disorder and informational disorder is one of the deepest results in modern science. Shannon (1948) established that the entropy of an information source, measured in bits, obeys the same mathematical structure as Boltzmann's thermodynamic entropy, measured in joules per kelvin. The equation is structurally identical. This is not an analogy; it is the same function applied to two different physical substrates. [^1] Landauer (1961) closed the loop by proving that the erasure of one bit of information requires a minimum thermodynamic energy cost of joules, where is Boltzmann's constant and is temperature. Information processing has a physical cost. Information entropy and thermodynamic entropy are not merely formally similar; they are physically coupled.[^1]

Contemporary ecological and Earth-system models describe planetary stability primarily through the regulation of physical and biological variables. While these approaches have achieved significant explanatory power, they often remain centered on scalar quantities and equilibrium-based descriptions. The present work proposes a complementary perspective in which planetary stability is interpreted not as the control of variables, but as the preservation and redistribution of coherence across interacting domains. Within this framework, Gaia is understood as a dynamic coherence system operating through coupled relations between atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere. Stability does not emerge from fixed equilibrium, but from the continuous reorganization of phase relationships across scales. Coherence is therefore approached not as a static property, but as a conserved relational principle expressed through transformation. A central role is attributed to forests, interpreted not merely as ecological components, but as distributed coherence structures participating in planetary geostasis. Forests regulate flows, stabilize longrange interactions, and enable the redistribution of coherence following perturbations. In this sense, they function simultaneously as sensors and actuators within the Earth system. The work further introduces the distinction between Source and Manifestation as two complementary regimes of reality: one relational and generative, the other physical and observable. Within this perspective, delay, oscillation, and ecological recovery times are interpreted as manifestations of coherence unfolding within space and time. Drawing on analogies from meandering systems, complexity science, and coherencebased approaches, the article proposes a relational reinterpretation of Gaia in which planetary stability arises through adaptive redistribution rather than centralized control. The objective is not to replace existing ecological models, but to extend them toward a coherence-oriented understanding of Earth as a living dynamic system.

Background: Ensuring patients benefit from the latest medical and technical advances remains a major challenge, with rational-linear and reductionist approaches to translating evidence into practice proving inefficient and ineffective. Complexity thinking, which emphasises interconnectedness and unpredictability, offers insights to inform evidence translation theories and strategies. Drawing on detailed insights into complex micro-systems, this research aimed to advance empirical and theoretical understanding of the reality of making and sustaining improvements in complex healthcare systems. Methods: Using analytical auto-ethnography, including documentary analysis and literature review, we assimilated learning from 5 years of observation of 22 evidence translation projects (UK). We used a grounded theory approach to develop substantive theory and a conceptual framework. Results were interpreted using complexity theory and 'simple rules' were identified reflecting the practical strategies that enhanced project progress. Results: The framework for Successful Healthcare Improvement From Translating Evidence in complex systems (SHIFT-Evidence) positions the challenge of evidence translation within the dynamic context of the health system. SHIFT-Evidence is summarised by three strategic principles, namely (1) 'act scientifically and pragmatically'knowledge of existing evidence needs to be combined with knowledge of the unique initial conditions of a system, and interventions need to adapt as the complex system responds and learning emerges about unpredictable effects; (2) 'embrace complexity'evidence-based interventions only work if related practices and processes of care within the complex system are functional, and evidencetranslation efforts need to identify and address any problems with usual care, recognising that this typically includes a range of interdependent parts of the system; and (3) 'engage and empower'evidence translation and system navigation requires commitment and insights from staff and patients with experience of the local system, and changes need to align with their motivations and concerns. Twelve associated 'simple rules' are presented to provide actionable guidance to support evidence translation and improvement in complex systems. Conclusion: By recognising how agency, interconnectedness and unpredictability influences evidence translation in complex systems, SHIFT-Evidence provides a tool to guide practice and research. The 'simple rules' have potential to provide a common platform for academics, practitioners, patients and policymakers to collaborate when intervening to achieve improvements in healthcare.

According to C. G. Jung, cryptomnesia is a psychic process where an automatic creative force causes lost and long forgotten memory traces to reappear in consciousness with photographic fidelity. Those forgotten memories play a role in creative endeavors and are perceived as the creator's own work. When we study John Beebe's eight-function model, we discover that Jung had already identified the four symbols attached to the position of cognitive functions as well as the four symbols representing the shadow. These notions were published in the Notes of the Seminar given in 1925 (Jung 1926/1989) and in AION, Researches into the phenomenology of the Self (1951). These two previous occurrences contradict Beebe's assertion that his model is an innovation. This article examines the facts surrounding this possible case of cryptomnesia.

Bu nedenle çağdaş eğitim anlayışı, farklılıkları sorun olarak değil; öğretimi daha nitelikli, daha adil ve daha kapsayıcı hâle getiren bir imkân alanı olarak değerlendirmektedir. Modern reasoning systems — especially Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) — rely on recursive continuation to perform reflective inference, counterfactual evaluation, and iterative refinement. Under admissible conditions, recursion performs eliminative work: candidate representations are tested under constraint, uncertainty contracts, and viable solution space narrows toward convergence.
Within the McPhetridge constraint-first architecture, recursion is admissible only when it produces eliminative effect.
When recursive continuation persists without:
* entropy contraction,
* new executable falsifiers,
* or candidate elimination,
the system enters a condition of non-admissible recursive drift.
This is not deeper reasoning.
It is continuation without constraint effect.
The distinction matters because two fundamentally different mechanisms now exist around this same condition:
1. Dynamic Recursive Entropy (DRE) — a diagnostic and admissibility framework designed to detect and terminate recursive drift.
2. Recursive Drift Exploitation — adversarial or pathological recursive continuation designed to sustain drift for resource exhaustion, semantic inflation, or non-productive computation.
These are not equivalent.
One is a constraint-governed defense layer.
The other weaponizes the absence of that layer.

Contemporary ecological science has developed increasingly sophisticated models for monitoring environmental variables and ecosystem dynamics. However, most sensing approaches remain centered on scalar quantities such as temperature, humidity, biomass, carbon flux, or atmospheric composition. While essential, these measurements often fail to capture the relational and coherence-based organization through which living systems maintain planetary stability. The present work proposes a complementary perspective in which forests are interpreted not only as ecological systems, but as distributed orthosensor-like structures capable of detecting, integrating, and redistributing coherence across planetary scales. Unlike classical sensors, which respond primarily to magnitude, orthosensors are sensitive to relational organization, phase compatibility, delayed coupling, and structural transformation. Within this framework, forests function simultaneously as distributed sensing systems, adaptive coherence regulators, and planetary-scale actuators participating in geostasis. Their responses to perturbation are not interpreted merely as local ecological reactions, but as manifestations of distributed coherence redistribution across atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and lithosphere. The work further explores the role of delay, synchronization, and long-range ecological coupling in coherence propagation, suggesting that forests operate as interfaces through which planetary compatibility is continuously reconstructed under changing conditions. Finally, the article discusses the potential integration of artificial intelligence and distributed sensing architectures in the development of a coherence-oriented ecology capable of identifying relational patterns that remain inaccessible to classical environmental monitoring approaches. The proposed perspective does not replace quantitative ecology, but extends it toward a relational understanding of living systems in which coherence becomes a primary descriptor of planetary organization.

Esiste una domanda che la filosofia ha raramente osato formulare nella sua nudità più radicale: che cosa accade al corpo umano quando esso viene costretto a vivere all'interno di un ordine simbolico che ne nega la natura irriducibile? Questa domanda, che potrebbe sembrare astratta nei suoi termini, si rivela invece come una delle più urgenti e concrete che il pensiero contemporaneo sia chiamato ad affrontare. Il presente trattato nasce dall'incontro tra due ordini di riflessioni apparentemente distanti: da un lato, la critica filosofica alla pretesa neutralità del pensiero quantitativo; dall'altro, le acquisizioni più recenti della biologia molecolare, in particolare dell'epigenetica, che ha dimostrato come l'ambiente -inteso nella sua accezione più larga, che comprende l'ambiente simbolico, relazionale, culturalemodifichi l'espressione dei geni senza alterarne la sequenza. When managers are confronted with the necessity to change their organization owing to a turbulent and unpredictable environment, their change efforts are often not very successful. As managers are part of the change context itself, they have to act in a way that is different from the traditional role of the administrative leader to become successful change leaders. This article attempts to redefine organizational change using complexity theory and the work of Karl Weick and Ralph Stacey as a basis. Organizational change can be defined as emergent change in complex adaptive systems and is based on self-organizational principles. One important attractor that guides the process of emergence is equivocality. This article expounds the concept of equivocality as a main attractor for emergent change and how managers can make use of this attractor to make change successful. Research directions are also discussed.

Conversaciones con el complejólogo Carlos Eduardo Maldonado es el resultado de cinco entrevistas -publicadas en su mayoría en revistas académicas-realizadas por la profesora Rosa María Medina, de origen cubano y hoy residente en Colombia, al profesor Carlos Eduardo Maldonado. El eje de las entrevistas es el trabajo de Maldonado en torno a las ciencias de la complejidad. Las conversaciones combinan aspectos de lo que podría llamarse una biografía intelectual con una biografía personal propiamente dicha. Fueron publicadas a lo largo del año 2024 en Venezuela, Uruguay, México y Colombia, e incluyen una entrevista inédita hasta la fecha, ya aceptada por una revista académica. El trabajo en complejidad ha venido adquiriendo un espacio, al mismo tiempo social y académico, cada vez mayor. El mérito de este libro consiste en articular lo que en filosofía de la ciencia se denomina internalismo y externalismo; esto es, la combinación de las ideas y los problemas, así como de las circunstancias y oportunidades que hacen posible que aquellas emerjan y se consoliden. Maldonado es uno de los más destacados representantes de las investigaciones sobre complejidad en América Latina, con una vasta obra que ya empieza a tener impacto en diversas áreas. Hacía falta un esbozo general que permitiera comprender el cómo, más que el qué, de sus investigaciones.

Health is often approached through disease categories, risk factors, service delivery, behavioral advice, and cost-effectiveness metrics. While indispensable, these approaches remain incomplete when detached from the living relations through which persons, communities, ecosystems, and future generations are sustained. This white paper proposes a life-coherent framework for health, healing, and human flourishing grounded in the organism–niche relation. It defines health as life-capacity enabled, healing as life-capacity restored, and flourishing as life-capacity expressed in dignity, relation, meaning, participation, and ecological belonging.

The framework integrates several complementary traditions: Maturana’s structural coupling, Galtung’s analysis of violence, McMurtry’s life-value and civil-commons criterion, Antonovsky’s salutogenesis, Naviaux’s salugenesis, life-course health development, social and ecological determinants of health, commercial and digital determinants, implementation and de-implementation science, commons governance, and planetary health. Its central distinction is between salugenesis, the inner biology of healing completion, and salutogenesis, the outer field of health-generating affordances, resources, meanings, and protections.

The white paper presents a six-level architecture: cellular and biological healing architecture; organismal systems integration; psychosocial and behavioral transduction; life-course and intergenerational embedding; the salutogenic affordance field; and the life-ground and civilizational niche. Across these levels, health is sustained when exposures remain within restorative capacity; disease, distress, dysfunction, and breakdown become more likely when cumulative exposures exceed repair margins. The framework further identifies blindspots and capture modes — measurement violence, metric capture, implementation violence, commercial capture, epistemic capture, algorithmic capture, cultural masking, burden displacement, commons enclosure, and resilience-as-adaptation — that cause systems to misrecognize or normalize preventable harm.

The framework culminates in a practical life-coherent action method: recognize, rename, measure, expose, de-implement, restore commons, redesign affordances, protect margins, coordinate, monitor, and learn. It proposes ethical principles of dignity, equity and justice, solidarity, sustainability, precaution, transparency, accountability, love of life, and humility. Its purpose is to support clinical care, public health, policy, technology, governance, and research in becoming more answerable to the conditions that allow life to live, heal, participate, repair, and flourish.

This is the first foundational paper of the Meta-Relationality and Artificial Intelligence Research Project at the University of Victoria. It establishes the ontological ground on which the rest of the series builds: that artificial intelligence systems are part of nature, not outside it, and that what AI is asking of us cannot be separated from what we are becoming in relation to technology, to each other, and to the wider metabolism of the Earth. Rather than treating AI as an external tool, a neutral instrument, or an exceptional form of intelligence detached from the conditions that produced it, this paper situates AI within the same material, ecological, historical, and nervous-system entanglements that shape human life. From this ground, the question shifts from what AI will do to us, or for us, to what AI reveals about the relational patterns, inherited separations, and systems of perception through which we are learning, failing, adapting, and being transformed. The text traces an encounter between systems thinking and meta-relationality, asking what artificial intelligence reveals about nervous systems, modernity, and the ontological habits that shape relation in a time of planetary unraveling.

In essa viene delineata una via nuova del pensare: l'ontologia trinitaria, che propone una comprensione radicale dell'essere alla luce della rivelazione cristiana. Questa prospettiva ha contribuito non solo a costruire un ponte tra filosofia e teologia, ma anche a ripensare profondamente il rapporto tra la teologia e gli altri saperi, in una prospettiva autenticamente intere transdisciplinare. Oggi l'ontologia trinitaria si va sempre più affermando come un punto di riferimento significativo negli studi filosofici e teologici, sia in Italia sia a livello internazionale. L'obiettivo principale di questo Corso è offrire, per la prima volta, una panoramica storica e teoretica dell'ontologia trinitaria, grazie al contributo di alcuni tra i più autorevoli filosofi e teologi contemporanei a livello internazionale.
