This letter presents the design and implementation of a video streaming file server system, which has been implemented in the context of a distributed digital multimedia broadcasting environment that has been prototyped. To make a performance analysis of file systems and distributed object services for continuous media (CM) provisioning, we validate the performance of the system against that of a conventional file system, Unix file system, through an experimental evaluation.

Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial second generation (DVB-T2) systems are increasingly deployed for high quality terrestrial broadcasting. However, low Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) conditions in urban and fringe coverage areas pose significant challenges, resulting in elevated Bit Error Rates (BER) and degraded service reliability. Forward Error Correction (FEC) techniques, particularly Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) and Bose Chaudhuri Hocquenghem (BCH) codes, play a crucial role in mitigating transmission errors and ensuring robust communication. This study investigates a systematic approach to optimizing LDPC and BCH FEC schemes to enhance transmission reliability and minimize BER under low-SNR conditions in DVB-T2 networks. Using simulation-based analyses, the study evaluates multiple LDPC code rates (e.g., 1/2, 2/3, 3/4) in combination with BCH codeword lengths and error-correcting capabilities. Results indicate that an optimized LDPC (64800, 32400) configuration combined with a BCH (255, 239) code significantly reduces BER, achieving approximately 10⁻⁵ at an SNR of 2 dB, compared to a BER of 10⁻³ using standard DVB-T2 FEC configurations. Additionally, iterative decoding algorithms for LDPC were fine-tuned to balance convergence speed and error correction performance, demonstrating a 25% reduction in decoding iterations without compromising reliability. The analysis also explores trade-offs between redundancy, throughput and latency, highlighting the practical considerations for real-world deployment. The findings underscore that strategic optimization of LDPC/BCH FEC parameters is critical for maintaining broadcast quality in low-SNR scenarios. By enhancing error resilience and reducing BER, the proposed approach improves signal integrity, supports consistent reception in fringe areas and maximizes spectrum efficiency. This work provides a foundation for adaptive FEC strategies in future DVB T2 systems, enabling broadcasters to deliver reliable high-definition content even under challenging channel conditions.

The rapid growth of High-Definition (HD) and Ultra-High-Definition (UHD) content, ranging from 2K to 10K resolutions, presents significant challenges for terrestrial broadcasting systems, particularly regarding spectrum utilization and reliable transmission. Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial second generation (DVB-T2) with Multi-Physical Layer Pipes (M-PLP) offers a flexible framework to deliver heterogeneous content streams efficiently. This study investigates spectrum-aware adaptive transmission strategies to optimize multi-PLP DVB-T2 networks for high-resolution streaming, focusing on efficient multiplexing, error resilience and bandwidth management. Simulation analyses evaluate the performance of various multi-PLP configurations under different channel conditions, including low Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) environments. Key metrics, such as throughput, Bit Error Rate (BER) and spectral efficiency, were assessed.

, the European Commission recognised the importance of broadband access infrastructures for the successful deployment of Information Society (IS) throughout the Union by 2005, and identified the actions to be taken, among which is the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting (DSO). In a number of EU states where broadband networking infrastructures have already been disposed, DSO in UHF does not constitute a critical issue for the successful deployment of IS. In all other EU countries, however, where the low penetration of broadband access infrastructures hampers the successful deployment of IS, digital switchover arises as a unique opportunity to fill the gap and shorten the digital divide. In this respect, this paper presents an approach -that has been adopted and elaborated with the ATHENA FP6-507312 project -for the proper adoption of DSO that provides the basis for fast and successful establishment of broadband infrastructures, especially in the less developed regions. Taking into account the local and networking aspect (IP capabilities) of the new digital terrestrial television (Terrestrial Digital Video Broadcasting -DVB-T), it describes a Fusion environment that enables broadband access not only to digital TV bouquets, but also to Information Society services, besides being offered to all existing and potential service/content providers for open competition at all levels (technological, service, content creation and distribution).

The paper anticipates that the actions to be taken concerning the Digital Switchover (transition form analogue to digital broadcasting -DSO) in UHF are of strategic importance for the European Member Countries and most candidate ones, as long as DSO arises as a possible and complementary solution towards the deployment of Broadband Access Infrastructures, especially in less favoured regions. Taking into account the networking potentialities of the new digital TV in UHF (Terrestrial Digital Video Broadcasting -DVB-T) and the broadband capabilities of the recent access technologies (i.e. WLAN, UMTS, etc.), the paper proposes a networking infrastructure that utilises the DVB-T stream in regenerative configurations for the realization of a common Ethernet backbone capable to interconnect all citizens within the broadcasting area. Citizens access this backbone via appropriate Distribution Nodes (DN), which make use of broadband access technologies. Such an approach enables for a multi-service capable environment (digital TV programmes, Interactive TV programmes, Internet access, e-mail, video/audio on demand, etc.), which is commonly shared among broadcasters, telecom operators and any active citizen who creates, manipulates and distributes his own content to the entire infrastructure (MPEG-21 approach).

The tremendous interest received by Internet applications over the last decade, on one hand, and the emergence of the digital switchover, transition from the analogue to the digital TV, on the other hand, convey the trend for the convergence of broadcasting and IP-based networks.

This paper presents the capabilities of the new digital terrestrial television (DVB-T) in supporting tele-learning applications, where the lecturer and the students are virtually present in the same classroom from their own premises. Based on a concept for the transition from analogue to digital terrestrial broadcasting (Digital Switchover in UHF -DSO), the paper describes a novel unified infrastructure of a fusion networking environment and the realisation of a common IP backbone (present and available in the entire broadcasting area), that is capable to support tele-learning applications enabling lecturers and students to actively participate in the educational process using real time interventions (video/audio). By utilising the DVB-T stream in regenerative configurations, this broadband access infrastructure enables distant learners and professors to access/provide realtime interactive educational audiovisual material.

This paper introduces a novel operational framework for the problem of time slot assignment in a Digital Video Broadcast-Return Channel via Satellite (DVB-RCS) system. The approach is compliant with the latest technical specifications emitted by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) about Quality of Service (QoS) in Satellite Earth Stations and Systems (SES). It is a cross-layer MAC-PHY optimization approach sustained by the powerful framework of convex optimization. The paper proposes a hierarchical dynamic bandwidth allocation approach, which is motivated by the computational complexity of the single-step solution. More specifically, we obtain and analyze the optimal time duration of the time slots and jointly, we make a fair allocation of slots to areas, which is the highest level in the bandwidth allocation hierarchy. Results show up to a 10% increase in transported capacity.

The aging of population in developed countries and, consequently, the growth of chronic deseases is pushing public health industry to find solutions in order to bring healthcare to patients homes. This can significantly contribute to the reduction of healthcare cost by avoiding unnecessary hospitalisations and ensuring that those who need urgent care get it sooner. Many e-Health systems for remote patients assistance are being developed among the research community. Security has become a key issue in order to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of individuals. This paper proposes a general architecture for e-Health systems and discusses the security issues it leads to and provides a specific framework based on interoperability and well-known standards.

This paper evaluates the performance of Raptor codes on Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) packet-based wireless networks. Performance metrics such as packet loss rate and recovery rate are studied closely. This is carried out by building a functional module in a network simulator 2 (ns2) environment that models the Raptor transmitter and Raptor receiver. At completion of this, the standalone platform for the development of the actual Raptor module as an ns2 compatible protocol is implemented. The results show that packet recovery rate increases to over 60% when Raptor code was integrated into the transport layer.

In order to achieve the ultimate capacity limit of a communication channel, Shannon demonstrated the use of infinitely long sequence of random codes. However, these codes are impractical as a result of their astronomical number of codewords. The performance of the different rates Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes together with the various modulation techniques defined for the IEEE 802.16e standard over the Binary Input Additive White Gaussian Noise (BI-AWGN) channel is investigated in this paper. The Bit error rate (BER) results obtained showed that reliable transmission of information can be achieved in proximity to the capacity of the BI-AWGN channel through the use LDPC codes.

In this article we present a system for sharing a Conditional Access Module among different visualization devices. Current pay-TV systems require having conditional access modules and smart cards replicated at every visualization device willing to access Pay-TV contents. In this article, we show how a home gateway, capable of securely distribute decryption keys to home visualization device, an inexpensive descrambler, and a home network, enable a flexible solution to access Pay-TV 1 .

Adequate link budget tools are required by satellite operators to generate optimized transmission plans that satisfies customer diverse demands using transponder resources (power and bandwidth) efficiently. Satellite operator has to face with a number of communication scenarios depending on the service. These scenarios cover from forward links used for DTH (Directto-Home) to bidirectional networks where both forward and returns can share the transponder resources. Moreover, a transition from desktop implementations to web-based applications is a must for satellite link budget tools. In this contribution, we present a web-based application entitled HispaSim conceived for the analysis and optimization of satellite link budgets that incorporates administration of users and database. Motion estimation is a fundamental step for high quality, low bandwidth video compression. Recently the MPEG-4 group has proposed some low complexity algorithms. They have almost the same performance in term of PSNR of the Full Search algorithm, but at the same time the complexity is dramatically reduced. However it is difficult to realize these algorithms with conventional hardware structures. For this reason we presented a Hardware Oriented Region Based algorithm (HORB) with similar performances, but that can be implemented with a simple hardware structure. Here we present an architecture tailored to meet the design constraint of the HORB algorithm (and at the same time capable of realizing the Full Search algorithm).

In this paper, a linearity improvement technique is proposed for a low-distortion { bandpass filter operating in high IF ranges. The proposed transconductor eliminates value at the output by superposing the opposite non-linear behaviors of two differential structures in parallel. For the bandpass filter, instead of conventional biquad structure, a resonant-coupling structure is adopted for a flat frequency response which is insensitive to process and temperature variations. Fabricated in 65 nm CMOS process, the implemented 80 MHz bandpass filter shows a flat bandpass characteristic with 0.1 dB ripple, third-order harmonic rejection of 27 dB, IIP3 of 2 dBm, and NF of 21.5 dB, while consuming 11 mA from 1.2-V supply. The filter occupies the chip size of 0.5 0.5 mm 2 .

Pembahasan ini meliputi prinsip dasar fiber optik, komponen utama sistem, serta analisis keunggulan fiber optik dibandingkan media transmisi konvensional. Hasil dari kajian menunjukkan bahwa pengenalan teknologi fiber optik di tingkat SMA ini dapat meningkatkan pemahaman bagi siswa terhadap perkembangan jaringan komunikasi modern serta menumbuhkan minat terhadap bidang teknologi dan telekomunikasi.
