Nose surgery is challenging and needs a lot of training for safe and efficient treatments. Eye tracking can provide an objective assessment to measure residents’ learning curve. The aim of the current study was to assess residents’ fixation duration and other dependent variables over the course of a dedicated training in functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). Sixteen residents performed a FESS training over 18 sessions, split into three surgical steps. Eye movements in terms of percent fixation on the screen and average fixation duration were measured, in addition to residents’ completion time, cognitive load, and surgical performance. Attention allocation in visual search is known to be influenced by low-level image features, visual scene context and top down task constraints. Here, we investigate the role of Contextual priors in guiding visual search by monitoring eye movements as participants search very familiar scenes for a target object. The goal of the study is to identify which stage of the visual search benefits from contextual priors. Two groups of participants differed in the expectation of target presence associated with a scene. Stronger priors are established when a scene exemplar is always associated with the presence of the target than when the scene is periodically observed with and without the target. In both cases, overall search performance improves over repeated presentations of scenes. An analytic decomposition of the time course of the effect of contextual priors shows a time benefit to the exploration stage of search (scan time) and a decrease in gaze duration on the target. The strength of the contextual relationship modulates the magnitude of gaze duration gain, while the scan time gain constitutes one half of the overall search performance benefit regardless of the probability (50% or 100%) of target presence. These data are discussed in terms of the implications of contextdependent scene processing and its putative role in various stages of visual search.

This study is the first to explore the neural correlates of cognitive processes proposed in models of writing, combining fMRI scanning with keystroke logging to bring together insights from neuroscience and behavioural research. We focused on a key writing mechanism, pausing; specifically, we examined how pause location (within words, between words/sentences) may relate to neural processes. The participants were 21 intermediate-level Japanese university students of L2 English, who carried out four decision-making writing tasks in English. While the participants were writing, we recorded their brain activity through fMRI scanning and their writing behaviours with keystroke logging. As predicted, pauses at lower textual units (within and between words) were associated with increased activation in language-related brain regions, whereas pauses at higher textual units (between sentences) were related to greater brain activity in planning-related brain areas. In addition, the study revealed heightened brain activity in sensory and motor regions for within-word pauses, relative to pauses between words and sentences. Given the convergence between our behavioural and neural data, the results suggest that the cognitive processes posited in models of writing correspond to identifiable neural correlates.

Effects of context are pervasive throughout perceptual and cognitive processing domains. Many studies have shown context effects in language processing, but these studies have mostly focused on local, linguistic contexts. As a step toward situating language processing in the broad scope of cognitive processing, we investigated the effect of a global, nonlinguistic context on homophone ambiguity resolution. The context was implicitly induced by using only highly imageable target words. This context was predicted to shift attention away from non-imageable meanings, thus reducing activation of non-imageable meanings and consequently reducing ambiguity between meanings. We tracked eye movements as subjects heard spoken words and selected a matching picture from four displayed items. Results were consistent with the predictions: response times were faster for homophones with only one contextually appropriate meaning than homophones with two contextually appropriate meanings (reflecting reduced ambiguity) and participants were less likely to fixate semantic associates of contextually inappropriate meanings than contextually appropriate meanings (reflecting reduced activation of non-imageable meanings). These results suggest that global, non-linguistic contexts influence language processing by shifting attention away from contextually inappropriate meanings.

As the Metaverse transitions from being a technological novelty to a permanent digital society, the factors driving engagement in the Metaverse will transition from usability to psychological connection with users. The proposed "Digital Mirror" conceptual model suggests that in the case of women using an immersive environment to engage with their identities instead of traditional commerce; the Digital Mirror is the primary platform for expressing one's identity. By analyzing data collected on 311 females, this study examines how Self-Congruence (Identity Fit) and Ability to Fantasize (Imagination) influence the two technical requirements necessary for engagement in the Metaverse. We found a "Resonance Effect" such that while both Social Pressure and Identity Fit are predictive of engagement in the Metaverse; Identity Fit is the strongest predictor (β = 0.63) of engagement by a wide margin. Additionally, we identified "Imagination Skill" as a critical cognitive threshold; users who lack the ability to imagine/are unable to fantasize do not experience pleasure/hedonic value from interacting with the interface regardless of the visual quality of the interface. These findings support the need for future multimedia systems to prioritize "Identity Resonance" over merely making the interface look realistic in order to create meaningful user presence.

This study aims to provide insight into consumer purchasing decisions by integrating eyetracking data with forecasting techniques. First, the study investigates how consumption motives (hedonic vs. utilitarian) and purchasing purposes (for oneself vs. for others) influence visual attention and decision-making processes. An experimental design was conducted with 128 participants in a simulated online shopping environment, where eye-tracking data were collected based on fixation counts and durations across defined Areas of Interest (AOIs). Second, a total of 20 input features were collected, comprising fixation counts and fixation durations for 10 review-related Areas of Interest (AOIs), and these features were evaluated across the experimental scenarios, while the binary output variable represented the participant's purchase decision. These biometric features, together with scenario information, were used to forecast purchasing decisions using six machinelearning methods, including Artificial Neural Networks, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, K-Nearest Neighbors, Naive Bayes, and Logistic Regression. The results indicate that consumers' visual attention aligns with their consumption motives and purchasing purposes, revealing distinct gaze patterns across different scenarios. In the forecasting phase, the accuracy of different methods for predicting purchasing decisions using reviewrelated eye-tracking data is evaluated. Support Vector Machines achieved the highest overall accuracy, approximately 59-60% across the evaluated datasets, compared with a validation-specific majority-class baseline of 53.85%. This corresponds to a modest improvement of approximately 5.15-6.15 percentage points over the naive benchmark. Overall, the findings suggest that objectively recorded review-related eye-tracking data can be operationalized as behavioral input features in a machine-learning-based purchasedecision classification framework, highlighting the methodological value of integrating eye-tracking insights with consumer behavior forecasting.

Surprised expressions are interpreted as negative by some people, and as positive by others. When compared to fearful expressions, which are consistently rated as negative, surprise and fear share similar morphological structures (e.g. widened eyes), but these similarities are primarily in the upper part of the face (eyes). We hypothesised, then, that individuals would be more likely to interpret surprise positively when fixating faster to the lower part of the face (mouth). Participants rated surprised and fearful faces as either positive or negative while eye movements were recorded. Positive ratings of surprise were associated with longer fixation on the mouth than negative ratings. There were also individual differences in fixation patterns, with individuals who fixated the mouth earlier exhibiting increased positive ratings. These findings suggest that there are meaningful individual differences in how people process faces.

The article contributes to the ongoing discussion of the potential of using eye-tracking recordings in ethnomethodological conversation analysis (EMCA) by exploring to what extent and under what circumstances such recordings may be useful for EMCA studies of multimodal social interaction. For this purpose, it analyzes examples of social conduct recorded by one video camera and one set of eye-tracking glasses. The article concludes that while eye-tracking recordings may, in some specific cases, provide new analytic possibilities for studying social action, they are by no means indispensable for EMCA research in multimodal social interaction, and making use of mobile eye-tracking equipment and recordings may compromise the data as well as the analytic procedure.

Purpose: Electrooculography (EOG) serves as a vital non-invasive technique for neuro-ophthalmological diagnostics and human-computer interface (HCI) development, yet its parameters may vary with demographic and physiological factors. Methods: This prospective study enrolled 50 healthy participants, stratified by age into three groups: child/adolescent (12-22 years, n=20), adult (23-40 years, n=24), and a pilot elderly group (≥40 years, n=6). EOG signals were recorded using a BIOPAC MP36 system, adhering to protocols informed by International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV) standards for electro-oculography. Standardized tasks assessed saccadic latency, blink dynamics, and signal-tonoise ratio (SNR) in horizontal and vertical planes. In adult females (n=12), menstrual cycle phase was determined via serum progesterone (≥3 ng/mL for luteal) and estradiol assays, synchronized with testing. Results: Adolescents exhibited significantly higher saccadic latency variability (210±30 ms; p=0.03 versus adults) and 40% lower vertical SNR, reflecting immature oculomotor control. Adult women in the luteal phase showed an 18% reduction in horizontal SNR (p=0.04), with estradiol levels inversely correlating with fixation duration (Spearman ρ=-0.58, p<0.05). Elderly participants demonstrated prolonged saccadic latency (p_adj=0.01) and 30% reduced blink amplitude compared to adults, indicating age-related declines in EOG signal quality. Conclusions: Age, gender, and menstrual cycle-related hormonal fluctuations systematically modulate key EOG parameters. These findings underscore the need for demographic-specific normative data in clinical electrophysiology and adaptive HCI applications, aligning with ISCEV recommendations for standardized interpretation.

Foreign direct investments (FDI) are highly encouraged worldwide, and Gaziantep—acting as a major center of attraction in Turkey and the Middle East due to its strategic geographical location and industrial infrastructure—has become a significant hub for Syrian entrepreneurs making direct investments. The primary aim of this research is to identify the barriers to foreign direct investment in Gaziantep from the perspective of these Syrian entrepreneurs. Methodologically, an online survey technique was employed; questionnaires were distributed via Google Forms through email to pre-informed companies across various legal structures, including joint-stock, limited liability, and ordinary companies. The findings reveal that the most critical factors for Syrian businessmen directly investing in Turkey are, in order of importance, finance (money), risks, and capabilities (abilities). Furthermore, the demographic profile shows that these investors are predominantly male university graduates who prefer partnering with compatriots rather than other foreign nationals. While interviews indicated that entrepreneurs view economic policies as their greatest risk and source of anxiety, they nonetheless expressed overall satisfaction with the supportive policies and assistance provided to refugee businessmen.

This report proposes a conservative observational model for understanding structured linguistic instruction as a possible interface to implicit cognitive processes. The model is based on long-term observations from the Turbo-Suslik framework, a self-directed system of protocol-based cognitive processing in which users apply predefined semantic instructions to subjective cognitive material. The report does not claim that linguistic instructions directly access, command, or modify a discrete "subconscious" mechanism. It also does not claim therapeutic efficacy, clinical validity, or verified neurological causality. Instead, linguistic protocols are described as compact semantic structures that may help users identify subjective material, frame an intended cognitive task, cue attention, activate associated cognitive-affective content, and support later self-reported changes. The proposed model is consistent with research on automaticity, implementation intentions, semantic priming, predictive processing, emotion regulation, and implicit cognition. Within this interpretation, linguistic instructions function less as persuasive statements and more as indexing and task-framing devices. The report describes several components of this linguistic interface: semantic targeting, procedural framing, cue-based activation, procedural compression, associative expansion, background continuation as a user-reported interpretation, and delayed subjective integration. It concludes that linguistic instruction may provide a useful technical language for describing protocol-based cognitive processing without relying on metaphysical claims, therapeutic framing, or agent-like models of the "subconscious.

In Alltagsgesprächen kommt es regelmäßig zu interaktionalen Problemen, insbesondere zu lokalen Verstehensproblemen, die das Verstehen einer Äußerung in unmittelbarer sequenzieller Nähe betreffen. Lokale Verstehensprobleme werden häufig durch Elemente wie was?, wie bitte? oder eben hä? angezeigt, um eine Reparatur des problematischen Turns zu initiieren. Durch eine Reparatur wird die vorher signalisierte Störung bearbeitet, indem die vorangegangene Äußerung wiederholt, reformuliert oder präzisiert wird (Selting 1987b: 128). Der Beitrag untersucht vier Gesprächsausschnitte-einen aus einer Zwei-Personen-Interaktion und drei aus Mehr-Personen-Interaktionen. In allen Fällen kommt es zu Verstehensproblemen, die durch den open class repair initiator (OCRI) hä signalisiert werden. Analysiert werden diese Belege unter drei Schwerpunkten:
(1) Da OCRIs bezüglich der Problemquelle unspezifisch sind, müssen im weiteren Gesprächsverlauf zusätzliche disambiguierende Ressourcen eingesetzt werden, um die Störung adäquat adressieren zu können (vgl. Oloff 2024). Im Fokus steht die Frage, welche Ressourcen im Fall von hä genutzt werden und ob verschiedene Arten von Verstehensproblemen (akustische Probleme, semantische Zuordnungsprobleme, lokale Erwartungsprobleme nach Selting 1987b: 134) als solche erkennbar gemacht und unterschiedlich adressiert werden.
(2) Ein zweiter Schwerpunkt liegt auf der sequenziellen Organisation solcher Reparaturen. Anhand der vier Gesprächsausschnitte wird gezeigt, dass Reparaturen nicht nur in dyadischer Form vorkommen (selbst-vs. fremdinitiierte Selbst-und Fremdreparatur), sondern dass sie sowohl von mehreren Interagierenden initiiert als auch durchgeführt werden können. Der Begriff ko-konstruierte Reparaturen wird hier verwendet, um Fälle zu fassen, in denen Initiierung und/oder Durchführung von mehreren Interagierenden gemeinsam geleistet wird.
(3) Schließlich wird untersucht, ob und in welcher Weise diese beiden Phänomene – die disambiguierenden Verfahren bei OCRIs und die ko-konstruierten Reparaturen – ineinandergreifen. Das Material zeigt Fälle, in denen Reparaturen ko-initiiert werden, sei es durch ein isoliertes hä?, das im nächsten Turn mit einem erweiterten Reparaturformat durch einen anderen Sprecher ergänzt wird, oder – umgekehrt – durch ein erweitertes
Format, auf das überlappend ein isoliertes hä? folgt. In beiden Konstellationen wird die Problemquelle expliziert und die Störung erkennbar gemacht. Daraus ergibt sich die Frage, inwiefern ko-konstruiertes Reparieren als Ressource der Disambiguierung zwischen
unterschiedlichen Problemtypen bei OCRIs fungiert.

Today around the world, agriculture faces many challenges like pest outbreaks, plant disease,
inefficient resource use, and limited access to affordable monitoring tools for small to medium

medium-scale farmers. Without effective detection and intervention, these issues can result in
decreased yields, financial losses, and long-term soil degradation. This project presents a smart
farm robot that integrates robotics, advanced sensors, and artificial intelligence to provide realtime crop and soil monitoring. The system is built on a Hiwonder robot base with a Raspberry
Pi, and leverages Gemini AI and OpenAI for plant image analysis, Firebase for backend
storage, and a mobile application for farmer alerts. Several limitations emerged during
development, including inconsistent image recognition under variable lighting and reduced
navigation accuracy on damp or uneven terrain. Experimental testing confirmed that lighting
conditions significantly impact AI performance, while soil type affects movement precision.
Proposed solutions include adaptive preprocessing, LED-based lighting, and terrain-aware
navigation controls. By addressing these challenges, the farm robot demonstrates potential as a
scalable, low-cost precision agriculture tool. It offers a sustainable alternative to traditional
monitoring methods, enabling farmers to make proactive, data-driven decisions that improve
efficiency, reduce losses, and support long-term agricultural resilience.

Notation forces players to pause and record every move, which disrupts focus and wastes valuable time during games. Existing solutions either digitize written score sheets or depend on expensive smart boards, both of which remain impractical for most players. This project introduces an affordable camera-based system that automatically records moves in real-time using OpenCV for image calibration, YOLOv8 for object detection, and Python for validation and PGN generation [6]. The program captures live video, detects and flattens the chessboard, identifies piece types and positions, and updates the game state instantly. During testing, experiments have evaluated speed, accuracy, and resilience under varied lighting and occlusions. Results confirmed performance in reliable move recognition even in challenging conditions [7]. By combining cost-efficiency, portability, and real-time precision, the system offers a practical and accessible way to modernize chess notation, allowing players to focus entirely on strategy and gameplay

Curiosity is a key driver of exploration and learning. Prior empirical studies have largely focused on internal mechanisms of curiosity and not its interaction with the environment. This study broadens that view by examining how spatial configuration-specifically architectural enclosure-influences perceptual curiosity, affect, and memory. We conducted a mixed-methods experiment using immersive virtual reality (VR) to test our hypothesis. Three environments-with minimal, maximal, and intermediate enclosure-were systematically designed by architects based on dominant architectural disciplines, and manipulated using space syntax tools for enclosure. Twenty-two young healthy adults navigated all three layouts in a within-subjects design using VR headsets with integrated eye-tracking. Behavioral and physiological measures (gaze shifts, pupil dilation, head orientation, locomotion, and time) were recorded alongside pre-and post-task assessments of curiosity, affect, and memory. Results showed that spatial enclosure significantly influenced outcomes. Memory recall was higher in minimally-enclosed and intermediate environments than in maximally-enclosed ones. The intermediate layout elicited the strongest curiosity, greatest exploratory behavior, and most distributed movement patterns. Affective responses mirrored these findings: the intermediate layout was rated more positively and as more curiositytriggering than both minimally and maximally enclosed ones, and positive valence significantly correlated with memory performance, suggesting a reciprocal relationship between emotion and cognition in spatial experience. In all three environments curiosity and exploration peaked at architectural thresholds, highlighting the role of spatial transitions in information-seeking.

Natural language sometimes expresses negation in rather puzzlingly different forms. Different from Standard Negation (SN), Expletive Negation (EN) involves a negative marker that does not affect the truth conditions of a sentence. The theoretical literature debates whether EN is a semantically empty element or a negative operator. This paper addresses this question by investigating the processing of EN and SN against affirmative sentences through an eye- tracking while reading experiment. EN is presented in Italian temporal clauses (It. Rimarrò qui finché Gianni non.EN verrà alla festa; Eng. ‘I will stay here until Gianni comes to the party.’) and SN in Italian causal clauses (It. Chiara è rimasta in casa perché Marco non.SN ha chiamato la pizzeria; Eng. ‘Chiara remained in the house because Marco did not call the pizzeria’). The results reveal distinct processing profiles for EN and SN: (i) both types of negation showed increased processing costs in early measures (gaze duration) on the verb under negation scope; (ii) however, EN differed from SN in late measures, showing no additional processing cost in total reading time compared to affirmative sentences, while SN maintained elevated processing demands. These findings suggest that EN, though not truth-functional, implies early processing cost, which may suggest its lexical non-emptiness and its integration as a syntactic negative operator. Meanwhile, its lack of impact on later measures confirms that the difference from SN emerges at the level of propositional meaning. The study offers empirical evidence on EN and novel insights into the cognitive processing of negation.

Introduction: In this study, we examined the cognitive processes and physiological responses involved in learning a flute piece by the composer Charles Koechlin among musicians of different expertise levels. Participants performed the piece four times consecutively, with a 2-min practice interval between the first and the second trial.

Methods: Using data obtained from an eye tracker, respiratory sensors, and an audio recorder we assessed short-term improvement and the effect of musical structure and practice on key variables identified through a multivariate approach: eye-hand span (EHS), time index of EHS, thoracic and abdominal amplitude (breathing patterns) and pupil dilation.

Results: The analysis revealed two main dimensions: one associated with EHS; and the other with embodied responses to music, closely linked to breathing patterns and pupil dilation. We found an effect of musical structure on all the variables studied, while the EHS improved with practice. Expert musicians demonstrated enhanced EHS and adapted their breathing patterns more effectively to the music's structure.

Discussion: These insights support the hypothesis of a coupling between anticipation and breathing, emphasizing the role of perceptual and embodied components in music reading and learning.

Phishing can be defined as the cybercrime in which a target is contacted through e-mail, telephone or text message by someone impersonating a legitimate institution . Through psychological manipulation, the threat actor attempts to deceive users into providing sensitive information, thereby causing financial and intellectual property losses, reputational damages, and operational activity disruption. In this light, this paper presents a comprehensive review of eyetracking in association with phishing cyberattacks. To determine their impact on phishing detection accuracy, this work reviews 20 empirical studies which measure eye-tracking metrics with respect to different Areas of Interest (AOIs). The described experiments aim to produce simple cognitive user reactions, examine concentration, perception and trust in the system; all in which determine the level of susceptibility to deception and manipulation. Results suggest that longer gaze durations on AOIs, characterized by higher attention control, are strongly correlated with detection accuracy. Eye-tracking behavior also shows that technical background, domain knowledge, experience, training, and risk perception con-tribute to mitigating these attacks. Meanwhile, Time to First Fixation (TTFF), entry time and entry sequence data yielded inconclusive results regarding the impact on susceptibility to phishing attacks. The results aid in designing user-friendly URLs, visual browsing aids, and embedded and automated authentication systems. Theorists such as Vinay and Darbelnet, Roman Jakobson, Eugene Nida, J.C. Catford, Juliane House, Werner Koller, and Mona Baker have approached and defined equivalence from different perspectives. The lack of a uniform methodology to determine the extent of this ever-evasive 'sameness' has only served to intensify this debate. However, Walker Callum, in this book, explores the possibility of using eye-tracking as a useful tool to examine the equivalence of 'effect' by studying the cognitive processing of readers reading an ST and a TT.

Theorists such as Vinay and Darbelnet, Roman Jakobson, Eugene Nida, J.C. Catford, Juliane House, Werner Koller, and Mona Baker have approached and defined equivalence from different perspectives. The lack of a uniform methodology to determine the extent of this ever-evasive 'sameness' has only served to intensify this debate. However, Walker Callum, in this book, explores the possibility of using eye-tracking as a useful tool to examine the equivalence of 'effect' by studying the cognitive processing of readers reading an ST and a TT.

Contemporary higher education institutions increasingly emphasise inclusive education and student engagement within the learning process. Eye-tracking technology is recognised as an important method for analysing visual attention, cognitive processes, and interaction patterns in educational environments. However, research focusing on lecturers' visual attention distribution in higher education classrooms remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to analyse student inclusion during seminars based on a lecturer's eye-tracking research. The study was conducted using smart eye-tracking glasses that recorded the lecturer's eye movements, gaze direction, and visual attention distribution during two seminars in higher education. The collected data were analysed using heat map analysis to identify areas receiving the highest concentration of visual attention. The findings revealed that the lecturer's visual attention was unevenly distributed across the classroom, with the greatest concentration directed towards students seated in the central areas of the auditorium. Peripheral parts of the classroom received considerably less visual attention, suggesting that not all students were equally visually engaged in the interaction process. The results highlight the importance of lecturer awareness regarding attention distribution and demonstrate the potential of eye-tracking technology as a reflective tool for developing more inclusive teaching practices and supporting student engagement in higher education classrooms.

Penggunaan gadget dalam kehidupan sehari-hari semakin meningkat, terutama pada kalangan mahasiswa. Aktivitas menggunakan smartphone, laptop, dan perangkat digital lainnya dalam waktu lama dapat menyebabkan gangguan kesehatan mata, salah satunya adalah asthenopia atau kelelahan mata. Kondisi ini terjadi akibat meningkatnya beban kerja sistem visual, terutama pada fungsi penglihatan binokuler yang melibatkan koordinasi kedua mata.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan gadget terhadap kelelahan mata pada fungsi penglihatan binokuler berdasarkan kajian literatur ilmiah. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah tinjauan literatur naratif dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data diperoleh dari Google Scholar, PubMed, dan ScienceDirect dengan memilih artikel ilmiah yang relevan dalam sepuluh tahun terakhir. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan gadget dalam durasi lama dapat meningkatkan risiko terjadinya asthenopia. Gejala yang sering muncul meliputi mata lelah, mata kering, penglihatan kabur, sakit kepala, dan kesulitan fokus. Penggunaan gadget jarak dekat secara terus-menerus menyebabkan mata bekerja lebih keras melalui proses akomodasi dan konvergensi sehingga memengaruhi fungsi penglihatan binokuler. Selain itu, faktor pencahayaan, posisi penggunaan gadget, serta kurangnya waktu istirahat mata juga dapat memperburuk kondisi kelelahan visual. Kesimpulannya, penggunaan gadget yang berlebihan memiliki pengaruh terhadap munculnya kelelahan mata pada fungsi penglihatan binokuler. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan penggunaan gadget secara bijak dan penerapan kebiasaan visual yang baik untuk menjaga kesehatan mata.

Penglihatan binokuler merupakan kemampuan kedua mata bekerja secara bersamaan untuk menghasilkan penglihatan yang jelas, nyaman, dan memiliki persepsi kedalaman yang baik. Salah satu faktor penting yang memengaruhi fungsi penglihatan binokuler adalah konvergensi mata. Konvergensi merupakan gerakan kedua mata ke arah dalam saat melihat objek dekat. Gangguan konvergensi dapat menyebabkan keluhan seperti mata lelah, penglihatan kabur, sakit kepala, dan kesulitan fokus saat membaca. Remaja merupakan kelompok usia yang rentan mengalami gangguan konvergensi akibat aktivitas melihat dekat yang berlebihan seperti penggunaan gadget dan membaca dalam waktu lama. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan konvergensi mata dengan penglihatan binokuler pada remaja. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Populasi penelitian adalah remaja usia 12-18 tahun. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 30 responden yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pemeriksaan Near Point of Convergence (NPC) dan pemeriksaan fungsi penglihatan binokuler menggunakan cover test dan stereopsis test. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji Chi-Square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebagian besar responden memiliki konvergensi mata normal sebanyak 18 responden (60%), sedangkan 12 responden (40%) mengalami gangguan konvergensi. Sebagian besar responden dengan konvergensi normal memiliki penglihatan binokuler baik. Hasil analisis statistik menunjukkan terdapat hubungan signifikan antara konvergensi mata dengan penglihatan binokuler pada remaja dengan nilai p = 0,032 (p < 0,05). Terdapat hubungan antara konvergensi mata dengan penglihatan binokuler pada remaja. Semakin baik kemampuan konvergensi mata, maka semakin baik pula fungsi penglihatan binokuler yang dimiliki.

This study aims to determine visual behavioral characteristics in historical landscape areas through eye-tracking technology and statistical analysis. Within the scope of the research, landscape images of Dolmabahçe and Topkapı Palaces, which are significant cultural heritage sites in Turkey, were examined in the context of participants' visual behaviors and subjective preferences. Eye-tracking experiments were conducted with 34 volunteer participants. The eye-tracking metrics used in the study included Fixation Count (FC) and Average Fixation Duration (AFD). Correlations between subjective preference data and eye-tracking metrics were determined using Point-Biserial analysis, while correlations between landscape elements and eye-tracking metrics were identified using Spearman's Rho analysis. The level of consensus among participants was measured using the Kendall's W test. The findings revealed that tree, sculpture, and flower landscape elements were the strongest visual focal points and showed a highly significant correlation (p < 0.01) with participant preferences. Furthermore, while natural landscape elements recorded the longest average fixation duration, artificial landscape elements accounted for the highest fixation count. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that eye-tracking data can be utilized as a scientific decision-support mechanism and a tangible design strategy in the preservation and sustainable management processes of historical landscape areas.

The challenge of transferring the three-dimensional world onto two-dimensional surfaces has been debated by artists and scientists for centuries. This discussion, gaining prominence during the Renaissance, led to the development of linear perspective techniques such as one-point perspective. This study examines the effect of one-point perspective—which lies at the intersection of art and science—on viewers using eye-tracking data (N = 180). For data collection, the study used scenes from three films: 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, and The Shining, which include Kubrick’s consistent application of one-point perspective. Scenes were divided into nine Areas of Interest (AOIs), and gaze-and fixation-based metrics were used to assess viewers’ attention. The results revealed that AOI 5, centrally located on the screen, had the shortest time to first gaze, the highest number of gazes, and the longest total gaze duration compared to other AOIs. The findings show that participants fixated on the center earlier, more frequently, and for longer durations—even in scenes featuring intense peripheral stimuli. These findings provide empirical evidence that one-point perspective influences gaze direction in moving images by guiding visual attention toward the central region of the frame. This study offers a clear and empirically grounded contribution to understanding the effects of one-point perspective in moving images from the standpoint of vision science.

This thesis presents the design and implementation of an AI-powered driver monitoring system capable of detecting drowsiness and distraction in real time. The system uses computer vision techniques to analyze facial landmarks, eye movement, yawning behavior, and head orientation. The project was developed using Python, OpenCV, MediaPipe, and NumPy. The final application provides audio and visual alerts whenever dangerous behavior is detected.

In this essay, we review the work of Wolfgang Iser, the major proponent of reception theory, and Mark Turner, the major proponent of cognitive criticism. The two theoretical lines advocated by Iser and Turner focus on the cognitive processes involved with reading literary texts. Unfortunately, bibliographic blind spots in both lines lead to the assumption that there is little overlap between reception theory and cognitive criticism. We put this assumption to rest by comparing and contrasting works by Iser and Turner in detail, starting with Iser's work in the mid-1970s and ending with Turner's work in the late 1990s. Communication focuses on understanding of a person to another person, a simple communication can occur if there are similarities between the delivery of messages and people who receive messages. However, there are some people who lose communication skills or language and speech disorder which is a side effect of some diseases. One think to facilitate the problem is building a Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Systems. AAC is a communication method to support speaking or writing abilities for someone who have oral and writing disorders. In this research, eye-gaze boards used to implant AAC method. The computer programs created to implement that methods, with centroid iris tracking as input variable. The tests were carried out on various respondents with various eye shapes. The result of this research show that iris centroid could represent eyes direction, with six classifications (left – middle – right and upper – lower).

Understanding the concept of function continuity is one of the main conceptual challenges for non-mathematics students in learning calculus, as they tend to rely on algorithmic procedures rather than reasoning conceptually. This study aims to explore and compare the types of mathematical reasoning used by non-mathematics students in solving function continuity problems in basic calculus courses, using Lithner's reasoning framework. Using qualitative descriptive, this study compares two first-year calculus classes from two non-mathematics study programs using Lithner's framework. The research instruments comprised three written assignments on function continuity, developed according to the categories of Imitative Reasoning (IR) and Creative Reasoning (CR), in addition to task-based interviews (think-aloud) conducted to investigate students' cognitive processes. Data were analyzed by categorizing mathematical reasoning into Memorized Reasoning (MR), Algorithmic Reasoning (AR), Local Creative Reasoning (LCR), and Global Creative Reasoning (GCR), accompanied by an inter-rater reliability assessment. The results indicate differences in reasoning patterns between engineering and general education students, especially regarding their propensity to employ imitative reasoning (IR) or creative reasoning (CR) when confronted with continuity-of-function problems. These results offer a significant critique of the utilization of Lithner's framework in the analysis of calculus tasks especially the continuity of functions and propose minor adjustments to enhance the categorization of reasoning, making it more suitable for non-mathematics students.

Gaze and eye contact have important social meanings in our daily lives. The sighted often uses gaze gestures in communication to convey nonverbal information that a blind interlocutor cannot access and react to. In many examples, blind people's eyes are unattractive, and often with deformities, which makes the eye appearance less appealing to the sighted. All of these factors influence the smooth face-to-face communication between the blind and sighted people, which leads to blind people's poor adaptions in the communication. We implemented a working prototype, namely E-Gaze (glasses), an assistive device based on an eye tracking system. E-Gaze attempts to simulate the natural gaze for blind people, especially establishing the "eye contact" between the blind and sighted people to enhance the engagement in the face-to-face communication. The interactive gaze behaviors of the E-Gaze are based on a model that combines a turn-taking strategy and the eye-contact mechanism. In order to test the impact of the interactive gaze model in the face-to-face communication, we conducted an experiment with sixteen participants. In the user experiment, participants had a monologue with a dummy wearing the E-Gaze. Two monologues took place under two experimental conditions (i.e., Interactive Gaze and Random Gaze) with counter balancing to avoid carry-over effects. Results well support the hypothesis that the interactive gaze model of the E-Gaze can enable the sighted to feel attention from the listener, enhancing the level of engagement in the face-to-face communication. We also obtain insights and design implications from participants' comments.

Eye contact is crucial in social interactions, linking with sincerity and friendliness. However, blind people cannot see and make eye contact when they communicate with sighted people. It influences the involvement of blind people in blind-sighted conversations. Based on this context, we implemented Social glasses with an eye-tracking system, aiming to improve the communication quality between blind and sighted people in face-to-face conversations. Social glasses attempts to simulate the appropriate gaze for blind people, especially establishing the "eye contact" in blind-sighted conversations. To evaluate the impact of the interactive gaze displayed on the Social glasses, we performed dyadicconversation tests under four experimental conditions (No Gaze, Constant Gaze, Random Gaze, and Interactive Gaze) for 40 participants. Quantitative results showed that the Interactive gaze has a positive impact on improving the communication quality between blind and sighted people, which were consistent with a qualitative analysis of the participants' comments.

Gaze signals are frequently used by the sighted in social interactions as visual cues. However, these signals and cues are hardly accessible for people with visual disability. A conceptual design of E-Gaze glasses is proposed, assistive to create gaze communication between blind and sighted people in face-to-face conversations. We interviewed 20 totally blind and low vision participants to envision the use of the E-Gaze. We explained four features of E-Gaze to participants using persona and use scenarios. Participants discussed the features on their usefulness, efficiency and interest. The results helped us clarify the design direction and further research.

Stylistic variation has been a central concern in the study of prehistoric pottery in central Europe. In this paper, we approach stylistic variation from a visual cognition perspective, focusing on the effects that stylistic attributes of vessels have on patterns of attention. A free-viewing eye-tracking experiment was conducted using pottery vessels from central Germany spanning from 5500 to 1 BCE. Our results show that, among modern observers, decorative patterns and motifs primarily guide visual attention over attributes like shape or luminance. Attentional patterns were associated with variation in decorations: vessels with spiralled or punctured motifs (Early-Middle Neolithic) tended to attract more attention, whereas the undecorated (Younger Neolithic), less decorated, burnished or linear motifs (Bronze Age), or standardized and symmetrical patterns (Late Iron Age) of later styles, were less visually engaging. Considering the archaeological context of pottery stylistic changes in central Germany, a provisional explanation is that increased standardization and specialization and the general displacement of interest towards other crafts reduced the importance of pottery for visually communicating important socio-cultural cues, producing fewer captivating designs. This study does not claim equivalence between modern and past populations, but demonstrates the potential of eyetracking techniques for investigating visual-cognitive responses to stylistic change.

As a natural brain process, mind-wandering happens spontaneously and is usually linked with outcomes that affect students' performance in educational settings. In addition to capturing pupil and gaze coordinates in high resolution and with accuracy, wearable eye-trackers were used in this pilot study to infer student attention during an online lecture. While gaze is a good indicator for measuring visual attention, the need for more substantial proof of internal and covert attention is essential. In this work, we used advanced eye-tracking glasses to measure the mind-wandering level in students. The data collection was carried out with 15 students in two different settings for self-caught (8 students) and probe-caught (7 students) conditions. The data was later analysed to confirm the relationship between variables. Correlating the mindwandering with engagement level (self-caught r = .37, probecaught r = -.59 ) shows a significant relationship in both conditions (P-value < .001) . Our results show that using eye-trackers for mind-wandering measurements moves us toward the greater goal of building a customised teaching environment by detecting the actual data from students and teachers in the learning environment.

The Covid-19 outbreak has caused disruptions in the education sector, making remote education the dominant mode for lecture delivery. The lack of visual feedback and physical interaction makes it very hard for teachers to measure the engagement level of students during lectures. This paper proposes a time-bounded window operation to extract statistical features from raw gaze data, captured in a remote teaching experiment and link them with the student's attention level. Feature selection or dimensionality reduction is performed to reduce the convergence time and overcome the problem of over-fitting. Recursive feature elimination (RFE) and SelectFromModel (SFM) are used with different machine learning (ML) algorithms, and a subset of optimal feature space is obtained based on the feature scores. The model trained using the optimal feature subset showed significant improvement in accuracy and computational complexity. For instance, a support vector classifier (SVC) led 2.39% improvement in accuracy along with approximately 66% reduction in convergence time.

In this study, the effect of the ethical leadership on perceived organizational justice and identification has been researched with a case study. The researches" views have been examined by performing a literature review. The study has been realized with the individuals working in the tourism businesses in Ankara (Turkey). The hypotheses have been evaluated by looking at the interactions of the ethical leadership with the organizational justice and the organizational identification separately from the data. Regression models for organizational justice and organizational identification have been founded on ethical leadership and ethical leadership change according to gender has been checked by t-test. When previous analysis merged, it was determined that there was no difference between genders on ethical leadership affecting organizational justice and organizational identification

The study focuses on how young viewers visually process short-form videos on TikTok and how the distribution of attention between the main image and the platform interface changes in the process. In an exploratory laboratory experiment, 16 participants watched ten videos of four types of content (lifestyle, educational content, fast-paced potentially risky videos, multi-screen formats), while their eye movements, facial expressions, and electrodermal activity were measured simultaneously. Eye-tracking analysis revealed three recurring modes of visual attention: stable, segmented, and fragmented. The stable mode was mainly associated with lifestyle and reference educational videos, where the gaze focused on one or two dominant areas with low physiological activation. Multi-screen formats elicited a segmented mode with rhythmic switching between multiple streams without signs of attention breakdown. Fast-paced, thematically sensitive videos were characterized by a fragmented, reactive mode with shorter fixations, more frequent shifts between areas of interest, and repeatedly increased electrodermal activity that did not always correspond to visible facial expressions. The results suggest that short videos do not represent a uniform processing format, but that the formal structure and type of content are closely related to how young viewers divide their attention and how they are physiologically engaged in the process.
