to predict Aβ-PET positivity (p=.046) such that female C-carriers exhibited the lowest prevalence of Aβ-PET positivity (13%) compared to other groups (23% to 35%). C-carriers exhibited larger temporal lobe volumes across sex, yet this effect only reached statistical significance among females (females: d=0. 41, p=.018; males: d=0.26, p=.179). In post-hoc analyses, larger temporal lobe volumes were selectively associated with better verbal memory in female C-carriers (β=0.36, p=.026; other groups: |βs|<0.10, ps>.538). Conclusions: Among clinically normal older adults, we demonstrate female-specific advantages of carrying the SNAP-25 rs105132 C-allele across cognitive, neural, and molecular markers of AD. The rs105132 C-allele putatively reflects higher endogenous levels of SNAP-25. Our findings suggest a female-specific pathway of cognitive and neural resistance, whereby higher genetically-driven expression of SNAP-25 may reduce likelihood of amyloid plaque formation and support verbal memory, possibly through fortification of temporal lobe structure.

Prospective memory (PM) is the ability to remember to produce an action at a specific moment in the future signaled by the occurrence of a specific event (EB condition), a time or a time interval (TB condition). Detection of the appropriate moment corresponds to the prospective component (PC), while production of the appropriate action corresponds to the retrospective (RC) component. Although PM difficulties have been reported in healthy aging and in association with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), PM has not been examined in elderly people with MS (PwMS), which is particularly relevant since their life expectancy has improved significantly in recent years due to available treatments, and PM is essential to daily functioning. The main objective of this study was to investigate whether the decline in PM performance with advancing age is influenced by the presence of multiple sclerosis (MS). This study also aimed to clarify the type of PM impairment (PC vs RC in TB and EB conditions) in MS as a function of age. Participants and Methods: A total of 80 participants were recruited and separated into four groups: elderly PwMS (n = 20), young PwMS (n = 20), elderly healthy controls (HC) (n = 20) and young HC (n = 20). PM and its components were measured using the TEMP, an experimental ecological tool developed by our laboratory that has been validated in previous studies. In addition, all participants underwent a series of neuropsychological tests specific to MS (MACIFMS) and aging (Boston Naming Test, Clock Drawing Test, Towers of London, Trail making Test, Stroop, MoCA). Results: On the TEMP total score, a two-way ANOVA showed a main effect of age (F[1,75]=47.4, p<0.001, η2 = .40), a main effect of the presence of MS (F[1,75]=19.51, p<0.001, η2 = .21) as well as a significant Age X Disease interaction (F[2,74] =5.40, p=0.023, η2 = .07). Direct comparison between EB and TB conditions revealed that for the PC, only elderly PwMS had more difficulty in the TB than in the EB condition (Z =-2.51, p = 0.012), whereas RC score was significantly lower in the TB than in the EB condition in all groups except in younger controls (younger PwMS : Z =-2.56, p = 0.01; elderly HC : Z =-3.31, p < 0.001; elderly PwMS :Z =-3.04, p = 0.002). Conclusions: The TEMP revealed a marked impairment in PM in elderly PwMS compared to elderly HC and young PwMS. This impairment was particularly evident on the PC component in the TB condition. RC difficulties noted in the TB condition in all but younger controls reflect the arbitrary nature of the cue-action link that is particularly sensitive to episodic memory difficulties often observed in aging and MS.

There were no significant differences between groups in cues per minute (reflective listeningZ3.25; strategy trainingZ3.50) or guided cues frequency (reflective listeningZ4.39%; strategy trainingZ3.68%) during usual rehabilitation care sessions. There were significantly fewer cues per minute (2.86) and a higher proportion of guided cues (40.40%) observed in the strategy training sessions. Conclusions: Guided cues are observed less frequently in usual care, compared to strategy training. The added use of guided cues in strategy training sessions may explain observed differences in outcomes over time.

Objective: To identify differences in structural and functional brain connectivity between post-stroke mild and severe motor impairment. Design: Retrospective cross sectional study. Setting: Twenty-four chronic stroke patients, who underwent diffusion tensor imaging and resting state functional MRI, were included. All patients were classified into two groups(mild motor impairment: 11 patients; and severe motor impairment: 13 patients) according to their Fugl-Meyer motor assessment score. Participants (or Animals, Specimens, Cadavers): With randomized selection, we included twenty-four chronic stroke patients. Interventions: Interventions: Not applicable. Main Outcome Measure(s): tract-based spatial statistics and groupindependent component analysis were applied to investigate betweengroupdifferences in structural and functional connectivity, respectively. Results: The structural connectivity within motor-related brain regions was significantly increased in mild motor impairment than that in severe motor impairment (corrected P< 0.05). The intra-network functional connectivity between: 1. supplementary motor area and primary motor cortex in the affected hemisphere, 2. supplementary motor area and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex in the unaffected hemisphere and 3. ischemic lesion and primary motor cortex in the unaffected hemisphere was significantly increased in mild motor impairment than that in severe motor impairment (PFWE< 0.05). Conclusions: A better motor recovery after stroke could be facilitated by means of treatments aimed at enhancing structural and functional connectivity among motor related brain regions. Financial abilities (FA) are a multi-dimensional domain comprising a wide range of conceptual, pragmatical, and judgmental skills ranging from basic abilities, such as bill payment, to high level abilities, such as financial decision-making (FDM). Objective Research shows traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivors underperform compared to healthy comparison participants (HC) on verbal fluency tasks. Verbal fluency is typically comprised of two tasks: letter fluency and semantic fluency. During verbal fluency trials, participants often cluster responses and switch between clusters, which can serve as measures of executive control and organization. Also, research shows that Anglo-Americans (AA) outperformed ethnic minorities on various aspects of cognitive functioning. We examined the relationship between TBI and ethnic diversity on letter fluency, semantic fluency, switching, and clustering. Method The sample included 45 HC adults (21 Hispanics; 24 AA), 33 acute TBI adults (ATBI; 11 Hispanics; 22 AA), and 26 chronic TBI adults (CTBI; 9 Hispanics; 17 AA). Research Objectives: To assess the influence of psychosocial factors from the Theory of Reasoned Action and Planned Behavior on health-seeking behaviors after concussions. Design: Mixed method cross-sectional survey. Setting: University; virtual platform. Participants: 432 college students enrolled at least one college credit. Interventions: Participants completed a 30-minute online survey to examine factors contributing to health-seeking behaviors after concussions in college. Participants were randomized into two health scenario groups, one for healthcare decisions for themselves (Self), and another for healthcare advice for a friend (Other). Each group answered open and closedended questions about actions and expected outcomes from injury scenarios and then completed a questionnaire about personal attitudes, perceived behavioral control, and healthcare access and use. Main Outcome Measures: The Theory of Reasoned Action and Planned Behavior (TRA/TPB) constructs of attitudes, perceived behavioral control (PBC; including perceptions about access), subjective norms (SN), and intention to seek healthcare after a concussion informed survey design. All participants responded to TRA/TPB questions about themselves, but intention was answered based on participant group (Self vs. Other). Results: Indirect subjective norms and indirect perceived behavior control were associated with the intention to seek healthcare after a concussion. Two items in indirect SN were associated with intention to seek healthcare for self. Specifically, students who care what professors think tend to not seek healthcare (B=-.16, p=.03), while students who care about doing well in school have greater likelihood to report their concussions (B=.71, p=.04). Two items in indirect PBC were associated with intention to encourage others to seek healthcare: pressure from family (B=.39, p=.005) and to maintain academic performance (B=-.62, p=.03), and one item in indirect SN: to avoid disappointing family (B=.45, p=.02). Conclusions: Results show only indirect subjective norms were associated with intention to seek healthcare for the self. Conversely, indirect perceived behavioral control and indirect subjective norms were related to encouraging others to seek care. Conclusions: The PASS and STREAM is a useful assessment to predict walking ability in persons with stroke in community.

were free of self-reported sleep problems ("good sleepers"; n¼1,210). Differences in total cognition (sum of several cognitive test scores) and each individual test were examined after controlling for demographic characteristics and putative diagnostic status (normal, cognitively impaired but no dementia, dementia). We also assessed differences after controlling for several health conditions (including stroke, cancer, and depression). Results: After controlling for age, sex, education, race, ethnicity, and diagnostic status, those with sleep apnea had a lower total cognition score compared to good sleepers (B¼-0.28, 95% CI¼-0.51,-0.05, p¼0.016). This finding was driven by a significant difference in immediate word recall (B¼-0.14, 95% CI¼-0.25,-0.03, p¼0.012). After controlling for health conditions, results were no longer statistically significant. Conclusions: In this large, national sample of community-dwelling older adults, presence of sleep apnea was associated with poorer cognitive performance compared to good sleepers across the spectrum from healthy aging to dementia. Cognitive deficits were particularly seen in immediate memory, although these differences also appeared to be related to the presence of other health conditions. Findings are consistent with previous evidence showing a negative impact of sleep apnea on overall cognitive health, but more research is needed to better delineate the role of additional health conditions on these cognitive deficits.

Cognition relates longitudinally and cross-sectionally to physical and psychological health among older adults. The objective of this work was to study among former Senegalese footballers their state of health and their socioeconomic situation, an expression of appreciation of their professional retraining. This was a cross-sectional descriptive study from October 2015 to April 2016. Our population consisted of former footballers who played in the Senegalese national championship in the first division or were expatriates, honoring or not a selection in the national team. The cohort consisted of 100 retired footballers, the average age was 57, the average age of sports retirement at 31.8 years, the average duration of sport at 25 years; 56% of respondents had at least one risk factor, 28% reported sports-related conditions, 77% said they did not have reconversion and / or economic difficulties, but only 18% actually expressed the wish that their children become footballers. Older age was the main reason for sports retreat (49%) but 67% of subjects continued to play sports. However, it was noted that the number of risk factors increased with advancing age and longer sporting life and that lean body mass decreased with both indicators. In addition, subjects who engaged in regular physical activity had fewer risk factors and had more lean body mass. This study confirms the positive impact of sports practice in the prevention of risk factors and recommendations have been made to improve the living conditions of former athletes.

Background: specific bioelectrical impedance vector analysis (BIVA) has been proposed as an alternative bioimpedance method for evaluating body composition. This investigation aimed to verify the ability of specific BIVA in identifying changes in fat mass after a 16-week lifestyle program in former athletes. Methods: The 94 participants included in the Champ4life project (clinicaltrials.gov: NCT03031951) were randomized into intervention (n = 49) and control (n = 45) groups, from which 82 athletes completed the intervention (age 43.9 ± 9.2 y; body mass index 31.1 ± 4.6 kg/m2). The first four months of the Champ4Life program include a nutritional appointment and 12 weekly, 90-min sessions. Classroom sessions seek to provide participants with key information and a toolbox of behavior change techniques to initiate and sustain long-term lifestyle changes. Participants will undergo baseline, 4-month, and 12-month measurements of body composition (primary outcomes), resting energy expenditure, physical fitness, metabolic markers, energy balance related-markers, and quality of life (secondary outcome). This trial will provide evidence on the effectiveness of the Champ4life program, a pioneer lifestyle intervention for retired athletes, offering tools for sustained changes in physical activity, sedentary behavior and diet, aiming to improve body composition and overall health-related markers.
