A magyarság méltán híres szabadságvágyát, korszakokon átívelő szabadságtörekvéseit olykor beárnyékolja néhány tendencia, például "az udvarhoz" való viszony. Miközben a legkisebb családi portákat udvarnak nevezzük, hasonlóan a királyi udvar megjelöléséhez-az egyházi, a főúri birtokokkal és a nemesi udvarházakkal együtt-, gyakran mégis pejoratív értelemben jelenik meg az "udvari" jelző, mint a kompromisszumkötés vagy a megalkuvás szinonimája. Ez a szemlélet jelentős részben a kommunizmus utóhatása, mely máig él, mivel a rendszerváltozás után liberális és nacionalista körök is átvették. Pedig "udvarias" szavunk szintén az udvari kultúrából ered, és jelöljön bár felületes magatartásmódot, az udvariasság egyre jobban hiányzik a világból. Akár tudományos, akár személyes célzattal történik, az udvari kultúra különféle változatainak tanulmányozása minden fáradozást megér, amennyiben konkluzív, vagyis pozitív következményekkel bír a saját életünkre nézve. Cet article interroge la nature profonde du pouvoir à travers une perspective interdisciplinaire croisant philosophie politique, psychanalyse et neurosciences. En partant de la célèbre assertion de Montesquieu selon laquelle « tout homme qui a du pouvoir est porté à en abuser » (Montesquieu, 1748, p. 294), il explore l'hypothèse que la domination n'est pas un simple accident institutionnel ; elle constitue une tendance enracinée dans la biologie grâce aux circuits dopaminergiques et à la testostérone, la psyché à travers le Ça freudien et l'existence via la volonté de puissance nietzschéenne. L'étude propose une lecture métaphorique de la séparation des pouvoirs comme Surmoi institutionnel, chargé de freiner les pulsions du Ça politique. À travers une analyse textuelle de Montesquieu, Freud et Nietzsche, croisée avec des données empiriques contemporaines issues des travaux de Sapolsky, Wrangham et Gazzaniga, l'article montre que la régulation du pouvoir est structurellement inachevée : elle canalise la pulsion de domination sans jamais parvenir à l'éliminer complètement. Des cas concrets tels que la France, les États-Unis et le Madagascar qui illustrent les limites du Surmoi institutionnel face aux dérives populistes, technocratiques ou néopatrimoniales. Ainsi, la démocratie ne repose pas sur l'élimination du Ça ; elle exige une vigilance éthique et institutionnelle permanente, renforcée par des réformes adaptées aux biais cognitifs humains et une éducation à la vertu politique.

This article deals with the problem of studying politeness and codes of behaviour in ancient Greece, where the modern sociological notion of politeness—a fixed body of interrelational rules, of the kind later codified in Western "politeness manuals"—does not really apply, since the Archaic and Classical Greeks grouped such norms together with what we would call morality and never produced a manners literature of their own.

It argues that the dominant scholarly tools, especially Brown and Levinson's politeness model, are too narrowly linguistic and too universalist to capture historical change, and it proposes instead to combine their situational analysis with Norbert Elias's attention to a society's wider "system of beliefs." On this basis it advances the working hypothesis that Homer's Iliad and Odyssey—understood through an oralist, evolutionary view of the texts as an ever-readapted "encyclopaedic" archive of Greek values—can serve as the missing manual of ancient Greek politeness, since their paradigmatic scenes preserved norms of conduct that Greeks down to the fourth century BC still treated as edifying.

It illustrates this with the contrasting hospitality of Menelaus and Nestor toward Telemachus: both kings know the rules of host-guest etiquette, but Menelaus follows them to self-glorifying excess while Nestor applies them with genuine concern for his guest, showing that the "Homeric manual" offers not rigid rules but options for individual responses to particular situations.

Cet article a pour objectif de présenter, différencier et appliquer huit instruments d'analyse symbolique, textuelle, structurelle, relationnelle, narrative, humanisante et épistémologique de la production de sens : la Diagnese, l'Intention compositionnelle, la Matrice diagnostique structurelle, la Fonction relationnelle, l'Intelligence symbolique, le SNPS-Système narrativo-symbolique de production de sens, le QSH-Qualité symbolique humaine, et l'Invariance structurelle. La proposition repose sur une découverte systématique : chaque instrument a été progressivement développé comme réponse à une insuffisance de l'instrument précédent. La Diagnese identifie les signes ; l'Intention compositionnelle examine l'architecture de l'oeuvre ; la Matrice diagnostique structurelle organise les signes en noyaux et fonctions ; la Fonction relationnelle analyse les sujets, les institutions et les dispositifs en position ; l'Intelligence symbolique interprète les condensateurs symboliques ; le SNPS reconstruit le récit symbolique de production de sens ; le QSH évalue la qualité symbolique humanisante des sens produits ; et l'Invariance structurelle identifie le modèle qui demeure derrière les variations. Le processus de sinisation, entre le 6ème et le 8ème siècles, a été profond et spectaculaire puisqu'il a concerné à peu près tous les éléments structurants de la culture: l'écriture, la religion, la morale, mais aussi l'organisation administrative, l'urbanisme, la médecine, les sciences et les arts... Si l'on mesure l'importance des changements opérés, on sait mal comment cette adoption d'un modèle extérieur s'est concrètement déroulée et quels débats elle a suscités au sein des élites du pays. L'influence occidentale de la fin du 19ème siècle, beaucoup moins importante dans sa nature, a néanmoins modifié de façon sensible au moins un élément structurant de l'organisation sociale du Japon, ses règles de droit. Et cette fois, la séquence des changements réalisées et les débats qu'ils ont entraînés sont documentés. Avec le recul, ce processus de transformation du cadre juridique semble relever d'une méthode, qui permettrait d'identifier les éléments extérieurs que la société japonaise souhaite adopter et ceux qu'elle préfère rejeter. Et cette méthode constituerait l'originalité du modèle d'hybridation culturelle japonais.

Comparing Viking Age Norway and Denmark, the article examines the primary proposition that as centers of authority become progressively more robust, violence will be proportionately contained. The article introduces a new approach in using indications of violence as a focal point to elicit broader social practices. The disciplines employed in this studyarchaeology, osteology, philology, and sociologyare used together in the study of covariance of different indicators across a societal range. The indicators for assessing violence include skeletal trauma and weapon frequency. For assessing the steepness of the social pyramid, we use runestones, indicating variations in social stratification, and monumental constructions as a measure of power to command labor. Among the findings: weapons and interpersonal violence in Norway was much more widespread than in Denmark, and the social pyramid in Denmark was progressively steeper and more complex than in Norway. "Official" executions accounted for the preponderance of violence in Denmark, while rare in Norway. Denmark was evidently a more "civilianized" society than Norway. The comparative research supports the primary proposition. The research, furthermore, suggests that Denmark and Norway were sociologically distinct societies, which accords with recent findings that the respective regions displayed distinct, though still similar, genetic profiles.

The question of how civilising processes may be examined in East Asia has become an important yet challenging issue within figurational sociology. Although scholars working within this tradition have considered this question for several decades, only a limited number have actively applied and tested the theory of civilising processes in relation to the long-term historical and contemporary developments in China, Korea, and Japan. Further research in this area presents an important opportunity to refine and extend our understanding of how long-term social processes have unfolded across these societies. At the same time, it can broaden the methodological, analytical, and empirical scope of the theory beyond the European experience.

This presentation examines the process of civilisation in Japan through the theory of civilising processes developed by Norbert Elias. Focusing on the period from the seventh century to the twentieth century, it analyses the long-term structural and psychological developments that shaped Japanese society. Drawing on rich historical evidence, the presentation explores how these long-term processes contributed to the formation of the Japanese habitus, and the view that they are seen as more “civilised” than their forebears and neighbouring societies. While Elias’s work serves as the central theoretical framework, the analysis also engages with wider scholarship to address broader questions concerning Japanese historical civilisational developments and cultural formations. Subsequently, this presentation develops three central arguments: first, it offers an alternative interpretation of the historical development of Japanese society; second, it intervenes in ongoing debates over the applicability of Elias’s theory beyond the Western context; and third, it contributes to the further refinement and expansion of Elias’s theoretical framework.

El ensayo explora el concepto zen de *mushotoku* (無所得), entendido como “sin beneficio” o “sin nada que obtener”, y analiza su relevancia filosófica y práctica en la meditación zen. Frente a una cultura contemporánea dominada por la lógica del rendimiento, la productividad y la búsqueda constante de resultados, el texto sostiene que el zen propone una forma radicalmente distinta de habitar la existencia: practicar sin finalidad, meditar sin metas y actuar sin apropiación.

A través de las enseñanzas de maestros como Eihei Dōgen, Taisen Deshimaru y Kōdō Sawaki, el ensayo muestra que el *zazen* no debe entenderse como una técnica para alcanzar estados especiales de conciencia, sino como una práctica de presencia absoluta desprovista de intención utilitaria. La verdadera esencia de la práctica zen reside en “solo sentarse” (*shikantaza*), abandonando incluso el deseo de iluminación.

El texto desarrolla además una crítica profunda a la mentalidad teleológica y al ideal moderno de autorrealización, señalando cómo incluso la espiritualidad contemporánea ha sido instrumentalizada como herramienta de mejora personal. Frente a ello, el *mushotoku* representa una desactivación del ego y de la compulsión por alcanzar objetivos, proponiendo una sabiduría basada en la gratuidad, la aceptación y la apertura al instante presente.

El *mushotoku* aparece así como una sabiduría silenciosa que invita a habitar la realidad tal como es, más allá del deseo, la apropiación y la búsqueda constante de sentido.

El presente trabajo destaca las críticas que Zygmunt Bauman hace a la sociología a partir de dos obras publicadas a finales de la década de 1980 y principios de los noventa: Modernidad y Holocausto (1989) y Pensando sociológicamente (1990). El artículo sostiene que estos dos textos tienen una gran relación y deben leerse conjuntamente. En ellos Bauman sostiene que la teoría positiva del progreso, que caracteriza a la perspectiva sociológica, explica los errores que han llevado a considerar al Holocausto y otros genocidios como excepción y no como consecuencia de la modernidad. A partir de estas premisas, Bauman aborda la negligencia disciplinar hacia el estudio de dichos fenómenos y, para contrarrestarla, destaca la importancia de incorporar la categoría de exclusión y la oposición entre “nosotros” y “ellos” como puntos de partida centrales en el análisis sociológico para lograr explicar la discriminación en las relaciones sociales y las conductas asociadas que pueden ir desde el mero distanciamiento a las expresiones más drásticas de xenofobia.

This paper is based on two premises, which will be justified in the evidence presented. Firstly, the figurational approach of Norbert Elias, also known as processual sociology, is potentially very fruitful for analysing the immense range and opacity of interdependency chains as they developed in the USA between the slavery period and today. Secondly however, one of the claims made by Elias in his writing on 'Established and Outsiders' is problematic and requires revision, namely his belief that prejudice towards Blacks 1 had not differed significantly in its root causes from other Established-Outsider hostilities.

Bu çalışma, Avrupa İnsan Hakları Mahkemesi Büyük Dairesi’nin Şaban Yasak v. Türkiye kararını, suçta ve cezada kanunilik ilkesi, bireysel cezai sorumluluk, örgüt üyeliği suçunda manevi unsurun değerlendirilmesi ve cezaevi koşulları bakımından incelemektedir. Karar, mahkûmiyet hükümlerinde sanığın bireysel eylemlerinin ve kastının somut delillerle ortaya konulması gerektiğini vurgulaması yönüyle önem taşımaktadır.
