Wireless sensor and actor network's connectivity and coverage plays a significant role in mission-critical applications, whereas sensors and actors respond immediately to the detected events in an organized and coordinated way for an optimum restoration. When one or multiple actors fail, the network becomes disjoint by losing connectivity and coverage; therefore, self-healing algorithm is required to sustain the connectivity and coverage. In this paper two algorithms; Permanent Relocation Algorithm for Centralized Actor Recovery (PRACAR) and Self-Route Recovery Algorithm (SRRA) for sensors have been proposed for connectivity and coverage. The effectiveness of proposed technique has been proved by realistic simulation results which ensure that our proposed technique better handles the connectivity and coverage.

The recovery from partitioning of network is crucial for inter-node connectivity. In literature, a number of approaches have been proposed for the restoration of inter-node connectivity. There is a need for a distributed approach that has an energy efficient operation as energy is a scarce resource. By keeping this in mind we propose a novel technique to restore the connectivity that is distributed and energy efficient. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is proven by extensive simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed technique is efficient and capable of restoring network connectivity by using the mechanisms for improving the coverage.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are an integral part of the Internet of Things (IoT) and are widely used in a plethora of applications. Typically, sensor networks operate in harsh environments where human intervention is often restricted, which makes battery replacement for sensor nodes impractical. Node failure due to battery drainage or harsh environmental conditions poses serious challenges to the connectivity of the network. Without a connectivity restoration mechanism, node failures ultimately lead to a network partition, which affects the basic function of the sensor network. Therefore, the research community actively concentrates on addressing and solving the challenges associated with connectivity restoration in sensor networks. Since energy is a scarce resource in sensor networks, it becomes the focus of research, and researchers strive to propose new solutions that are energy efficient. The common issue that is well studied and considered is how to increase the network's life span by solving the node failure problem and achieving efficient energy utilization. This paper introduces a Clusterbased Node Recovery (CNR) connectivity restoration mechanism based on the concept of clustering. Clustering is a well-known mechanism in sensor networks, and it is known for its energy-efficient operation and scalability. The proposed technique utilizes a distributed cluster-based approach to identify the failed nodes, while Cluster Heads (CHs) play a significant role in the restoration of connectivity. Extensive simulations were conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed technique and compare it with the existing techniques. The simulation results show that the proposed technique efficiently addresses node failure and restores connectivity by moving fewer nodes than other existing connectivity restoration mechanisms. The Mobile Robotic Sensor Network (MRSN), require reliable applications and coordination based on strong network connectivity. These sensors are deployed into hazardous environment such as extreme temperature, mudslides, explosion etc. Chances of failure is high in sensor during operation which leads to easy compromise on connectivity due to interference. Based on the survey undertaken on DARA, LeDiR, they faces obstacle collision and sensor collision. The proposed method OCRS avoids the problem of obstacle avoidance and also introduces the concept of gyroscopic force. OCRS is implemented with the help of backup selection algorithm. On the basis of implementation done with the help of system model and control input it proves OCRS is more efficient than the existing system.

Recently, wireless sensor network (WSN) applications have seen an increase in interest. In search and rescue, battlefield reconnaissance, and some other such applications, so that a survey of the area of interest can be made collectively, a set of mobile nodes is deployed. Keeping the network nodes connected is vital for WSNs to be effective. Due to wide area of innovation in wireless technology, Wireless Sensor-Actor Networks (WSANs) have been the interesting area of application for last two or three decades in various fields. In WSANs, sensor node will explore the environment and transmit the gathered information to actor nodes. Actor node gathers or aggregates that information and performs specific operations in response to various events. Actors have to work together so it is essential to retain a strongly connected network topology at all the time. Since, actors perform in hostile environment, so they are prone to failures. Moreover a failure of an actor node leads to partition of the network into disjoint blocks and would thus violate the connectivity goal. For the recovery of faulty nodes, there is a requirement of location table for initiating the recovery process. LeDiR is a localized and distributed algorithm for single node failure that depends on local view of the node about the network. But in some real time situations, like bombardment and other natural calamity, where large number of node get disrupted or ruptured. There is a requirement to reconsider the above said schemes for multiple node failure recovery. In this paper, a new phase of LeDiR is introduced that may recover simultaneous node failure. Simulation result shows that LeDiR for multiple node failure (MLeDiR) outperforms conventional LeDiR methods in terms of total number of nodes moved and average distance moved during the recovery process.
