Welcome! I work as professor at the philosophy department of the University of Istanbul 29 Mayis. I have also worked as visiting assistant professor at Galatasaray and Mimar Sinan Universites in Istanbul.
After completing a BA at Galatasaray University (2006) and a MA at Paris I Sorbonne University (2007), I obtained my Ph.D. (2011) at Paris I Sorbonne University, under the supervision of Prof. Renaud Barbaras. I was then a postdoctoral researcher (2012) at Ecole Normale Supérieur, Archives Husserl de Paris (CNRS-UMR 8547).
My area of expertise is the Contemporary Continental Philosophy with a focus on Phenomenology. My first book La transcendance comme problème phénoménologique (Preface by Renaud Barbaras, Paris, Mimesis/J.Vrin) was published in September 2012. This book received the Cardinal Mercier Prize (2015) from the Catholic University of Louvain.
In addition to phenomenology, my work follows two more axes: (1) image theory and (2) philosophy of technology
Supervisors: Renaud Barbaras
Address: Associate Professor of Philosophy

On Images
The debate on images among philosophers typically commences by addressing the structure of mental images. Objective images are contrasted with mental images, with priority generally given to the latter. These two types are often posited as antithetical and mutually non-influential. The former are considered inherent to the stream of consciousness and transient, while the latter are defined by a material foundation. Mental images versus contemporary synthetic images.
Rather than utilizing this dichotomy merely as a starting point to diverge into separate analyses, this work aimed to explore their mutual interaction. I began not by confining the discussion to the stark contrast between the transcendental structure of mental images and the experience-specific characteristics of collective public images, but rather by posing the question: What is shared in the experience of an image? Subsequently, I endeavored to demonstrate how the images of advertising, propaganda, and the artistic images that direct our attention are presented within their respective technical media.
Problems of Philosophy of Technology: Writing, Memory, Attention
This book, a continuation of Emre Şan's Crisis and Critique research, opens new intellectual spaces on topics such as big data, the attention economy, and artificial intelligence, focusing not on the mind's capacity to adapt to new technologies and rapid changes, but on how psychic and collective individualities respond to these intense transformations. By centering on Stiegler’s concepts of writing, memory, and attention, and analyzing not only technical environments but also their economic and ecological structures, Şan seeks to untangle these complex relationships. According to him, in today's world, where collective culture is transformed into capital through algorithmic processes, how cognitive technologies shape mental capacities and the use of public reason is an urgent research question. Problems in the Philosophy of Technology discusses the effects of screen time on consciousness, decision-making, and forms of action, while exploring ways in which practical knowledge and theoretical knowledge can be circulated in more meaningful ways
