Dr. Amjad Kamal is a dedicated researcher and academician with expertise in educational psychology and teacher development. However, many of these are endangered, with several facing the threat of extinction due to globalization, urbanization, and a shift towards dominant regional or official languages. This study examines the role of digital technology in preserving and revitalizing endangered languages within the Indian context. The primary aim is to explore how digital tools such as mobile language apps, digital dictionaries, audiovisual archives, and crowdsourced documentation platforms are being leveraged to document, promote, and transmit India's lesser-known languages. Adopting a qualitative, case study-based approach, the research analyzes key initiatives including Bhasha Research Centre's work with tribal languages, the People's Linguistic Survey of India (PLSI), and region-specific efforts like the 'Kumaoni Voice' project and the 'Sora' language documentation initiative. Findings indicate that community-driven digital interventions, when supported by linguistic scholars and local institutions, can significantly contribute to the revival and retention of endangered languages. However, issues such as limited internet access in remote areas, lack of digital literacy, and minimal state support pose significant challenges. The study highlights the urgent need for inclusive digital language policies and collaborative frameworks to ensure the survival of India's rich but vulnerable linguistic heritage.

Mindfulness has emerged as an effective practice for enhancing self-awareness, emotional regulation, and sustainable mental health, yet its integration into higher education programs remains underexplored. This study investigates the lived experiences and perceptions of students in higher education regarding mindfulness practices as a means to foster sustainable mental health and academic well-being. Utilizing a qualitative phenomenological design, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 50 students from a higher education institution in Maharashtra, India. Data were analyzed through thematic analysis, with credibility ensured via triangulation and member checking. Four themes emerged: (1) mindfulness as a stress-relief strategy, (2) improved concentration and self-awareness, (3) emotional regulation and resilience, and (4) challenges in practicing mindfulness. Findings suggest that embedding structured mindfulness modules in higher education curricula can enhance students' mental health, equipping them to navigate academic and personal challenges effectively. This integration may improve learning environments and academic outcomes, offering a pathway to sustainable well-being in higher education.

The present study documents diurnal activity and foraging behaviour of the common kingfisher (Alc... more The present study documents diurnal activity and foraging behaviour of the common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis Linnaeus 1758) in a human dominated landscape, at the shore line of the famous Dal Lake, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Data pertaining to diurnal activity and foraging behaviour were collected in three time slots starting from 06:00 to 09:00 h, 09:00 to 12:00 h and 16:00 to 19:00 h from June to July in 2013. Activity patterns including feeding, calling, preening, flying, and scanning were recorded and reported in percentages. Similarly, foraging behaviour was studied by observing hunting strategies and associated environmental factors. The percentage of total diurnal activity did not change across different time slots (H = 1.713, P = 0.425) whereby scanning activity consisted of the largest proportion (52.84%) during the time slots, followed by flying (28%) and feeding (13%). Utilization of simple non-feeding perch types and feeding perch types differed statistically significantly (G = 24.42, P < 0.05). Diving from perch sites was predominant (83%) than diving after hovering (17%) by the common kingfisher. Hovering then diving to hunt increases from the morning hours (14%) to evening hours (20%). Foraging success from a perch was 71%, whereas foraging success for diving after hovering was 38% only. Further ecological studies on common kingfisher should be conducted to know more about the species and its interaction with the environment in the human dominated landscapes.

Hence, this research work aims at investigating the determining effect of psychological factors s... more Hence, this research work aims at investigating the determining effect of psychological factors such as stress, self-concept and locus of control on aggressive behaviours among adolescents in senior secondary students of Aligarh. The sample of the study consisted of 177 students (92 girls and 85 boys). The tools used were Locus of control scale (LOC) by Rotter and Aggressive behaviour scale (ABS) constructed by Sameer Babu. The result revealed that there was no significant correlation between locus of control and aggression in the total sample. Majority of the male respondents had internal locus of control and female respondent showed more of external locus of control. Boys were found to be more aggressive than girls. Another finding revealed that the Backward Class category scored higher on aggression than the general category.

Species Diversity and Density of Some Common Birds in Relation to Human Disturbance along the Bank of Dal Lake Srinagar

This study was conducted to estimate species density and diversity of some common resident bird s... more This study was conducted to estimate species density and diversity of some common resident bird species in relation to increasing human disturbance along the bank of Dal Lake during summer 2013. Data were collected by direct counts made on three fixed width transects (1 km long and 0.1 km wide) which were marked on the road running along the bank of the lake. These three transects represent a gradient of disturbance due to human habitation whereby the first and farthest transect involved low degree and the third transect involved a high level of disturbance. In total, 1,161 birds belonging to 20 species were recorded. Mean bird density differed significantly between transects (ANOVA; F = 3.494, P = 0.037) with the highest being 67.7±26.80 birds/km2 on the first transect and the least density on the third transect (4.5±1.77 birds/km2). The maximum number of bird species (19) was recorded in the low level disturbance transect followed by the medium level of disturbance transect (15) and least in the high level disturbance transect (5). The species studied showed their wariness by avoiding unwanted human social interactions when it lives very near human habitations despite being residents. The low density and low diversity of these birds in the high human disturbance transect point to an almost unbearable tolerance of these species to humans which might ultimately force them to avoid human habitations leading to a more impoverished environment.

In psychological context, spiritual intelligence is the ability to deals with meaning, value, purpose of life and solves problems in very effective and efficient manner. It also provides proper direction, morale and determination to life. Teachers are the ones who mould the lives of students. Teacher training is the most important phase that prospective teachers undergo before joining as full time teachers. Teaching practicum develops the prospective teachers in professional terms by modifying their behaviour, believes and thinking about teaching. In the present paper the authors attempt firstly, to explore the term spiritual intelligence and its dimensions, secondly, to examine the factors responsible for development of spiritual intelligence and thirdly, to discuss the relationship of spiritual intelligence with different variables related to prospective teachers. The study is purely qualitative in nature and entirely based on secondary data. Analytical method is followed throughout the paper to review related studies. The paper concludes that spiritual intelligence of prospective teachers are the outcome of apex level of growth and development in respect of mental, physical, social, preternatural, meaning attainment, professional and moral communication. The study also presents some suggestions that will help prospective teachers to solve practical problems and attain higher goals in life.

It is responsible for maintaining the space between the several units of society and the community. In the last few decades, the Indian education system has embarked on a paradigm shift that supports education for all through inclusive education. It ensures that every child, regardless of age, sex, race, caste, religion, or ability, has the same right to perceive equal educational opportunity as all other students in the general education system. Children with impairments have increasingly been enrolled in special education programs in regular schools (Mc leskey and Henry 1999). Inclusive education concerns differently able children, ranging from mild to severe, hidden or visible, who participate in everyday activities like normal children. "The integration of able and differently able children with special needs has become a fundamental function in the educational system since the approval of UNESCO's Salamanca statement and framework for action on special needs education (UNESCO 1994)". In a general education system, inclusive education is about active involvement, experiencing, and accomplishing curriculum objectives (Ainscow 2005). Inclusive education includes students of various abilities in general classrooms designed for common youngsters (kugelmass 2007). "Inclusive education is a type of education centered on social justice and fairness that aims to provide equal educational opportunities for all children, regardless of their physical, emotional, social, or learning disabilities (Loreman et al. 2005)." In India, inclusive education is still practiced from preprimary to higher education to integrate special needs students into mainstream classrooms. The success of inclusive education varies from state to state and primarily depends on the state government's disability policy within the national policy framework. It's difficult to say whether teacher education programs are sufficiently linked to inclusive education and provide all necessary tools for students with disabilities. As a result, all teacher education programs must contain a mandatory inclusive education course and must be trained all trainee teachers to the needs and requirements of the environment. IE in pre-service education programs not only aims to change trainee teachers' negative attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors toward inclusive education but also to prepare them to proceed with teaching-learning processes in inclusive classrooms effectively and efficiently using various models and approaches based on the requirements of the learners. According to the UNICEF report on the condition of impairment in India (2000), there are over 30 million children in India with disabilities ranging from mild to severe. According to the 2011 Indian census, roughly 2.21 percent of the total population has various abilities, with about 25% being school-aged children. However, the combination of persistence and enthusiasm in the field of education significantly impacts trainee teachers' effectiveness. The concept of grit, when used to explain academic performance, seems to be more beneficial than relying just on IQ grades. This study sought to examine the grit among trainee teachers in relation to certain demographic variables such as gender, locale, type of institution and religion. This research employed the descriptive survey method and utilized the simple random sampling technique to collect data from a total of 185 respondents from Aligarh Muslim University, Vivekanand College of Technology & Management, and Gyan Mahavidyalaya. The study used the Short Grit Scale (Grit-S), a standardized tool constructed by Duckworth and Quinn (2005). This research utilized mean, standard deviation, and parametric statistic independent sample t-tests to examine the significant difference in grit among trainee teachers based on certain demographic variables. The findings indicated that there was no statistically significant difference in grit based on gender, locale, type of institution, and religion among trainee teachers. When comparing the means, it was found that trainee teachers from rural, private, and Hindu backgrounds exhibited higher grit than trainee teachers from urban, government, and Muslim backgrounds.
