/// OFFICIAL MODERATION NOTICE ///

For the sake of simplicity and by popular request, here is the catch-all thread for general discussion of electric cars.

From a report to the mods:
a: the majority of the discussion isn't about tesla or its cars.

b: the majority of the discussion of tesla cars that does happen is lounge material, with no particular relevance to the observatory.

c: the discussion in the Model S thread, in particular, is completely off the rails.

So, since some players aren't subs, the thread stays here and not the Lounge. Also, these scattered threads are a pain to moderate.

Electric cars free-for-all. Go for it.

No I haven't.

People are buying trucks for their personal cars over CUVs, SUVs?

Yup, tons of midsize and fullsize pickups for daily drivers, on both coasts.
And just as many or more that are actually work trucks.

The Tesla truck will be wildly popular with the California truck bros. Look for them with enormous chrome wheels and skinny tires. They'll sell a million of them there.

Sure the limited range would stick out but for everyday driving it would appeal to a lot of people.
How far this discussion has come from the first Tesla thread in this forum.

In which limited range was a death blow, and, it was claimed, absolutely no one in their right mind would buy one. Because you'd get stranded. You couldn't commute normally. You couldn't go on vacation. You couldn't load your sofa/loveseat and move it across town.

but the bus also requires a mechanical system to raise and lower the pantograph that is in one of the worst places available:
Pretty common here in Europe. It's spring loaded up, with a rope attached and tied to the back of the bus. If the arm swings and the connection is broken, the driver gets out, pulls it down on the rope, pulls it over into position, lets it back up, and that's it.
