What a great week at #SNUG Summer School at Østfold University of Applied Sciences in Fredrikstad, Norway!🌱 From 22.-26. June 2026, students, researchers and project partners came together to explore smart and sustainable building envelopes through lectures, lab visits, hands-on sessions and applied research exercises. Two of our colleagues, Andrea Kurz and Laura Toth-Sonns, also contributed to the Summer School as lecturers, sharing their expertise with the participating students and project partners. One of the highlights was the #Icebox-Challenge, where the students designed small insulated “houses” to keep a block of ice protected from external heat for as long as possible. The challenge offered a practical way to compare #SNUG solutions and commercial #insulation materials in terms of thermal performance and #circularity. We are proud to have been part of this inspiring exchange on sustainable construction, advanced insulation materials, life cycle costing, and energy-efficient building design. Yesterday, three of our colleagues attended #CESA26 – Circular Economy Summit Austria in Graz. The event brought together perspectives from science, industry and policy, with presentations and discussions highlighting the relevance of circular economy approaches across different sectors, alongside a keynote by the Austrian astronaut, Carmen Possnig, and a speech by the Federal Minister (BMLUK). Our colleagues also joined the Bioeconomy Austria workshop “MehrWert aus Nebenprodukten”, where participants discussed possible uses for residual materials such as forest wood chips, corn cobs and corn straw in small groups. 🔬 DESIDERATA partners at the IRISS 4th Breakfast Webinar On 24 April 2026 (08:20–09:00 CEST), DESIDERATA partners will will share how Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) principles are being translated into real industrial applications, from halogen-free thermoplastics to PFAS alternatives and sustainable construction materials. Last week, we had the pleasure of attending #ANTHOS26 in Vienna. ANTHOS’26 focused on advanced (nano)materials and technologies, with a strong emphasis on Safe and Sustainable by Design (#SSbD). For us, it was a valuable source to gain new insights, especially as our work on the DESIDERATA project is also closely linked to this topic. Beyond that, this conference was also an opportunity to connect with inspiring people and exchange perspectives on challenges and opportunities ahead. It was great to see so many experts from research, industry, policy and regulation coming together to discuss current needs, practical solutions, and how to shape future innovation in this field. 👏 A big thank you to the organisers BNN - BioNanoNet, all contributing projects and everyone we had the pleasure of meeting for making this such a collaborative and insightful event.

In the SNUG project, they are the ones leading the charge toward a climate-neutral built environment. From the SSbD  of sustainable materials and insulation solutions, through their development from lab to industrial scale, AI-driven generative design in digital twins, and its onsite implementation in buildings in Spain, Switzerland, and Norway - 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 👫 We believe that achieving the #EuropeanGreen Deal is impossible without diverse perspectives at the leadership table.
