Even more exciting, we have now integrated a DC-Coupled 220MW / 4-hour BESS into the previously approved solar project - a significant step forward in strengthening the project’s long-term value and contribution to the energy transition! Projects like these are never just about megawatts, connection agreements, or infrastructure. Behind every kWh generated, there is a story - countless hours of engineering, negotiations, problem-solving, resilience, and teamwork! Great to hear the success stories of Shelley Sullivan, who scaled her business from $1M revenue to a $1B exit in just five years, and Hezi L. Leibovich, co-founder of Catch Group, Scoopon and EatNow/Menulog. Catch Group was acquired by Wesfarmers for $230M, while Menulog was sold to Just Eat in a deal worth $855M. Together, the #Leibovich brothers have been involved in more than $1B in tech exits in Australia. SEN’s latest report, “Western Australia Battery Backed Rooftop Solar Optimisation Study” levers its WA SWIS energy modelling expertise in addressing major challenges in the energy transition: ✅ Slow roll-out of long-distance high voltage transmission and delays to large scale renewable energy projects ✅ Energy democratisation and reducing customer energy costs. The report highlights that: 💡Only 13% of available WA SWIS connected rooftop space on domestic, commercial and industrial rooftops is utilised; 💡If we were to fully utilize suitable rooftops, we would add over 16GW of rooftop capacity and substantially reduce the amount of large scale solar required; 💡 53% of high voltage transmission envisaged under the SWIS Demand Assessment would not be required with an estimated saving of $14.5Bn; 💡Only 4.4% of properties already with rooftop solar have battery storage - flexible exports from battery-backed solar would substantially reduce energy costs, alleviate cost of living pressure, reduce costly peaking capacity, strengthen the grid, build climate change resilience and accelerate the energy transition. We explore enablers for policy adoption and offer practical recommendations for the rapid introduction of battery backed solar for all West Australians: home owners, renters, strata residents, small, medium and large businesses. This requires the WA Government to act decisively including: 💡Reviewing the current plan in the SWIS DA 💡Proactive programs to make solar and batteries available to the one third of households who are renters. 💡New incentives for apartment owners to put in solar and battery. 💡Increased incentives for low income households, including social housing to access home electrification and lower energy costs. 💡Incentives for industrial and commercial owners to invest in battery-backed rooftop solar. 💡Relaxed network connections to speed the up-take of battery-back solar, including increasing export limit from 5kW to 10kW if you have a battery.
