In just five years, cancer touched nearly every corner of Robby Spring's immediate family. First her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Then her sister. And in 2023, after advocating for additional screening because of her family's history, Robby learned she had stage 1 breast cancer at age 36. While Robby was undergoing chemotherapy, she was unable to work full-time and relied on the support of her family as she navigated surgeries, treatment and recovery. Then, as she and her sister neared the end of treatment, the family received more difficult news when their father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Today, Robby is using her experience to help others. Through her advocacy work with the Canadian Cancer Society, she shares the realities of a cancer diagnosis and works to improve cancer care for people across Canada. Stories like Robby's remind us why we come together for the CIBC Run for the Cure. When Yasmeen moved to Canada, she was ready for a fresh start. Then she was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of breast cancer. With treatment ahead and transportation costs adding up, getting to appointments became another challenge. Through the Canadian Cancer Society's Wheels of Hope program, Yasmeen could focus on what mattered most - her health. “Wheels of Hope eased everything for me. Five weeks after giving birth, Catherine was told she had terminal brain cancer and just 2-6 years to live. More than a decade later, she’s still here – and using her experience to help create a better future for others facing brain cancer. At the Lundin Cancer Fund – Canadian Cancer Society Glioblastoma Discovery Summit 2025, Catherine shared her story with researchers and spoke about the urgent need for more progress in brain cancer research. “The treatment options available now for brain cancer are almost exactly the same as when I was diagnosed in 2013.” “It’s so important that we continue funding research so we can improve outcomes for people diagnosed with brain cancer.” Read Catherine’s story and why investing in brain cancer research matters: https://lnkd.in/eN6Q_HKk
